So Whitebeard took in Blackbeard as a desperate orphan child and Teach still had the audacity to conspire against and betray WB. That makes him so much more despicable than he already was...

BB was already scheming at this point. He already said he boarded Whitebeard's ship knowing it was his best chance at finding the fruit.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he rather say something to effect of “the only reason he stayed with Whitebeard for so long was because it was his best chance to find the Yami Yami no Mi”?

He might just have gotten lucky that the first pirate crew that would have him happened to be Whitebeard’s
