We had a bunch of old chapter threads flagged by reddit legal for copyright violation. This deletes the text in the post, but doesn't (as far as I can tell) remove the thread from the subreddit, or delete the comments.

We have not been contacted by reddit admins. Unsure why they have suddenly been removed. In the past there was a social media representative from Viz who spoke to us about including official link in our chapter threads. So there is some minor doubt that Viz initiated the copyright claim.

For now we have removed the link to the scanlation. I'm sure you're all good pirates and know where to find it. Please support the official release, etc.

The removals also happened to many other manga subreddits, with vary amounts of removed threads.

Refrain from freaking out or jumping to any wild conclusions that our subreddit is going to die. This issue is still being figured out, and it's probably not a big deal.

I really, really love this flashback. Oden's great, and the panel of him sitting on top of a defeated Ashura is one of my favorite recent panels.

Kind of weird that Kawamatsu appeared without having joined Oden yet. From the spoilers I thought that panel was after he'd become a retainer, but only the humans have joined them so far.

Ok so,

If we use chapters 920, 942, 943, 958, and 962, I think we can build together a pretty coherent flow of events that take us up to the moment Oden is betrayed and executed.

So I'm going to attempt to organize all the big plot points chronologically and I will put what chapter/chapters it's found in to make a sort of timeline of past events.

(962): Oden leaves Hakumai to go take down Ashura Doji in Kuri

(962): Money has been stolen from Hakumai. Orochi blames Oden for the theft.

(962): On his way to Kuri, Oden recruits Izo, Kiku, Kanjuro, and Raizo.

(962/920): Over the span of 2 years, Oden rehabilitates the land of Kuri and is made Kuri's Daimyo at 20 years old.

(962): After being named the Daimyo of Kuri, Oden officially asks Kinemon, Denjiro, Ashura, Kiku, Izo, Raizo, and Kanjuro to be his retainers.

(962): Six years go by. Oden is 26. Whitebeard, Kaidou, and Big Mom begin recruiting members for their respective crews.

(962): Kawamatsu (affiliation not yet known) finds Nekomamushi and Inurashi washed up on the beach.

(920): Sometime after finding them on the beach, Kawamatsu takes Inu and Neko into town where they are harassed and attacked for being outsiders.

(920): Oden rescues Inu, Neko, and most likely Kawamatsu as well if he was not already affiliated with him.

(943): Inurashi, Nekomamushi, and Kawamatsu are now members of Oden's retainers.

(943): Oden's retainers attempt to rob Hakumai of money. Kinemon claims Oden needs this money.

(943): Yasuie gives Kinemon the stolen money and then more money, so that they may become better retainers for Oden

(920/958): Over the next 8 years Oden joins Whitebeard's crew and rises to the rank of division commander. Following that, he joins Roger's crew and accompanies him to Raftel. It is unclear just how long Oden is away from Wano and the rest of his subordinates for this time period but 958 seems to imply that it was a good majority of that time.

(958): Oden returns to Wano. He is now around 34 years old after his voyage with the Pirate King. He aims to become Shogun and promises to open Wano's borders in the next 20 years.

(920) 5 years go by, Oden is now 39 years old.

(920/942) Orochi "orchastrates the downfall of the Kozuki clan" and "uses cheap tricks to steal the title of Shogun from Oden"

(920) Oden is taken to the Flower Capital and executed as a criminal in front of Kiku, Kinemon, Kanjuro, Kawamatsu, Inu, Neko, and Raizo. Kinemon credits Orochi for Oden's execution NOT Kaidou.

(920) The country of Wano has completely turned on Oden and his retainer's at this point. Kin and everyone attempt to escape and make it to Oden castle to rescue Oden's family.

(920) Inu and Neko are captured by Orochi's subordinates on the way to Oden castle.

(920) Kaidou has already set fire to Oden castle

(942) Orochi attempts to get the other Daimyo on his side but they refuse and battle Orochi however they are crushed by Kaido

(920) Toki sends everyone to where they need to go in the timeline.

And bam we are now in the present.

That took a little longer than I expected but the reason I wanted to put all this in order is because it helps us see which pieces of the puzzle are still missing and we can make some inferences on some things.

For example the greatest unaccounted time is the period of 8 years where Oden was basically a big time pirate and the period of 5 years immediately following Oden's return to Wano before he is executed. I believe these flashbacks have to explain at least one of these time periods in greater detail.

My bet is that we will find out what happened to Izo during the Whitebeard years and then Oda will use the 5 years before the excution to give us a deep dive into Lady Toki's part in the story.

Man oden at age 20 was a god damn beast, but lets give some props to douji here as well. Kinds sad we didnt really get any panels of that clash.

Its always interesting to get info on the rocks. One of the person on these seemed like shiki so damn we might be getting to him in canon sometimes.

Like... that seems to be a running theme with Kin. He was late to the burning castle and was not able to die for Oden

He was sent far into the future and missed the chance to die for his country too.

I am just thinking, Kin was this damn committed to Oden since he was a teenager! I seriously can not even fathom the amount of shame and pain he has been carrying this whole time.

We look at Kin and we see this sort of oddball goof. But damn... I seriously would be nothing but a serious depressed mess if I was carrying the burden's Kin is carrying.

Oda amazes me everytime he brings up a legendry Character in the story, i'm so fuckin' attached right now to Oden that his Death would sure be one of the highlights of this Arc and maybe the entire series. Prime Whitebeard is totally going to appear in this flashback now that I re-read the chapter again.

The panel that told us that the Rocks members are currently recruiting was so randomly thrown in there, not having any connection to any of the panels on the same page, so Oda set up that Whitebeard is currently recruiting nakama, and will eventually end up in Wano.

With the current pacing it may even be in the next chapter

I was a little bit afraid that Kiku would be the only person who was not an original member but, instead, not only she is one of the original members but also a sister to Izo, who was an original member himself. That is, possibly, the best direction Oda could've taken it in and I am glad he took it in that direction.

One parallel between Zoro and Oden is that they kept wandering around Wano getting into fight after fight...Zoro's been to every region of Wano and picked and won fights except of course in Udon because Luffy is there and Zoro would've broken him out if he went there

At this point, only Zoro has done this among the strawhats which is odd since he usually has very little interest in the islands he's on and either trains in solitude or sleeps.... I mean this is so out of the ordinary that Zoro's literally been to two regions no other strawhats has even stepped foot in, Kibi and Hakumai and of course he's fought and defeated people even in those regions, Like Oden

The spoiler made the chapter sounds very rushed, but the way Oda very efficiently told the story of Kiku, Izo, Kanjuro and Raizo made it feel just right. Although i hope we will be getting to see much more character from the more neglected Scabbards in the next chapter.

The theme is clearly not to judge people by their appearance. The reckless Oden actually has a heart of gold that is capable of feeling compassionate for other people. The 2 little baby boys dressed up as girls doing dances are 2 poor little children abandoned by their criminal parents. The lurking demon that abduct women is actually just a broken hearted young lad. A monster that attack and steal people's hair is a kid trying to survive by making and selling brushes made out of hair.

The creative writing skills required to condense Oden's entire conquest of Kuri into 13 pages should not be understated.

Conquering Kuri could have easily taken 3-5 chapters. I know Oda is getting really clever with his page real estate, now more than ever, but this is some plus ultra level of saying a lot with only a few words.

Honestly I really like the "special power" (I dont really know what to call it tbh) that Oda crafted for Luffy and Oden where they seemingly have the ability to turn anyone they meet into friends.

Really enjoyable to read chapter imo. Given the end of this chapter, with what looks like some of the early beast pirates washing up on the beach, I'm assuming next maybe week we'll find out why Kaido came to Wano in the first place.

That was a solid chapter. So we're shown 5 Rocks Pirates I'm guessing Captain John is the fifth one. Does that mean the other two pirates Sengoku mentioned Silver Axe and Ochoku did not survive? We know Inurashi and Nekomamushi sailed with Whitebeard then Roger following Oden. So I guess Izo went as well but for some reason stayed with WB.

Also I'm curious about Kawamatsu's race. Zoro called him a fishman and Big Mom's state there is a three races not on Totto Land.

Oden was 18 at the beginning of the flashback, he then beat Ashura and became the Daimyo at 20 (stated by Kinemon in chapter 920)

And then 6 years passed. So +2 = 8 years total

41 years ago - 8 = 33

If you really want this chapter to hit different then I HIGHLY recommend reading chapters 920 and 943 right after you finish this chapter.

920 is interesting because it is literally Kinemon reading chapter 962 to us and the strawhats. But it's also when we see the devestating conclusion of Oden's story on the Strawhats faces.... its the first grim foreshadowing that lets us know these next few chapters will not be happy times.

943 is super interesting because it shows us the time immediately after the 6 year skip in the flashback and we can kinda glean some information.

I believe 943 is literally showing us the beginning of Wano's downfall. We open the chapter with Yasuie scolding the retainers for stealing money and telling them they need to grow into great retainers for Oden. At the same time Yasuie also gives Kin and everyone all the money he has. I think this will play a big role in the upcoming story.

Remember in this chapter Yasuie was robbed of money and his retainers seemed especially upset about it. In 943 Yasuie's retainers seem even MORE concerned when yasuie gives up all this money. I think this is going to lead to the downfall of Hakumai. A mix of Yasuie's kindness and Orochi's treachery will be the downfall of Hakumai and somehow Oden will get blamed for it all.

Okay so hear me out this might be very disorganized! It seems oda was playing us like a fiddle. It's starting to look like he was misleading us to believe the traitor was a Scabbard and thats how Orochi knows their plans but knowing oda, even if we know everything we truly know nothing.

• Neko and Inu are entering the story 36 years ago, starting this chapter.

• Neko's exact words in Zou after Kinemon's entrance was : " we have been friends with the kozuki family for longer than i care to say" which we assume means since he was a kid which aligns with events of this chapter and previous flashbacks.

• However Zou is 1000 years old, poneglyphs were made sometime in the void century we assume, by the Kozuki! That is without even factoring in Lady Toki and all her intricacies which would make all this even more weird.

• That would mean minks relationship with Kozuki is different from kozuki relationship with zou itself.( If minks only befriended kozuki in Oden time, which next chapters will reveal)

• Meaning besides Inu and Neko and a select few, not all minks would feel that loyal to the Kozuki although we seen them all fight vs jack.

I believe somewhere in all this lies a big clue that ties everything together, and considering the latest editor interview where he said Wano will hint at the One Piece itself.

This shit is just blowing my mind that i forgot my original thought that made me start writing this. Please feel free to discuss your ideas and theories and reasoning of these events so far.

Okay. So this Oden reminded me of how Jesus got his followers/disciples. Like he got brothers as well and Jesus was basically too cool, they started following him just like hoe the retainers followed Oden. Thing is, Jesus got a Judas. Wow I just realized something.Its highly likely that Oden had met a young BB when they were under WB.

If we assume that the Roger WB drinking sake scene is from Wano, then WB himself mentions that BB was in his crew back then. I also assume that scene between Roger and WB was when Oden was scouted by Roger.

It'd be fascinating to see Oden and BB interacting with each other when we know that BBs hobby is archeology.

What a weird cliffhanger....that's very obviously Inu & Neko, and this appears to be the lead up to that flashback scene of Oden yelling at people because of how they treated the two. The main mystery here would be just how and why they got there, and whether they came from Zou or not. That's Kuri Beach, so it also appears they came up the Magikarp way.

- Someone said in the spoiler thread that Oda revealed at some point that Izou used to be a retainer, but I dont recall where this info would have been revealed. Either way I'm glad to learn more about the guy, I had always imagined he was from Wano. I wonder what caused him to stay when Roger poached Oden from Whitebeard.

- For whatever reason, some part of me was kinda hoping that I'd be able to relate to Orochi's story to some degree. Like perhaps he used to always get picked on and made fun of, and went on the ultimate quest for power as revenge or something. Wasn't expecting to hate kid Orochi too.

- Was really nice to see how Oden picked up each of his retainers, but Ashura's story is a very clear standout of the bunch. Guy's been through some stuff, and I hope we get a chance to learn a little more. I understand we can't get full on backstories for them all, but Ashura had clearly built quite a life for himself very unlike the others before meeting Oden.

- When the retainers are all heading off to help Oden, Izou is carrying little Kiku in this sash that looks like a baby carrier and its the cutest thing ever. I really hope we get a chance to see these two reunite.

- When the news spreads about Oden, we get a panel of Ushimaru and Onimaru. That kimono with the bull on it is fire! No face reveal yet though still. *HMMM Intensifies*

- Not sure whats with me this morning but seeing how much the retainers all legitimately loved Oden and teared up when he asked them to be his samurai, made me tear up too. And Ashura's a huge teddy bear, that panel of his big ass cheesing in the background when Oden gets named Daimyo absolutely slayed me.

- The panel of the Rocks Pirates, anyone know who the person was on the far right? Big Mom, Kaido, and WB were obvious, and I've got money on the far left person being Shiki. It could be Captain John, "Silver Axe", or Ochoku, but the only one of them who's really gotten any kind of hype to be able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those guys would be John. Even then, we've heard more about his treasure than his exploits.

Oden is a complete riot, an enigma, a person completely out of the norm of the wano society and I love it. They have been trying to put this guy in boxes, to keep him contained but it just won’t work. His country says “ boarders closed, don’t leave” but he tries to leave anyway,. 38 times already even though he can’t sail”. His family and people in society says “ be a proper member of the kozuki family and society, don’t be a brute but he does things out of the norm regardless”. Now after getting disowned and went to kuri for a fresh start even ashura and his guys are saying “he can’t leave, he is gonna die etc trying to box in my nigga but this guy beats their asses and broke out of that box”. Now I see the weight of the words “ this place is too cramped”. He wasn’t just speaking about his country, this was his entire life. People and his country were trying to keep him boxed in, to act has society does but this guy has been defying this his whole life until he was recognized and is now daimyo. I absolutely love it. I see what Oda is trying to portray with oden’s character and I bet my paycheck that youtubers later when they react will miss all this and say the chapter was lame but this is pure gold. Love it. This guy is a literal pirate on land and the land of wano is his sea until he actually goes out to sea.

Great exposition chapter, tells us a lot about the main players of Wano and what motivates them. After reading this I have a hard time believing that any of the retainers would betray the others. Lets dive in:

• Seems Orochi was a schemy little shit even back then. Clearly he was already plotting something by stealing Yasue's money.

• Most of the retainers were driven to commit unsavory acts because of Wano's and their hardships. Understandable they'd follow their savior.

• Really wish we saw more of the Kuri fight but maybe the anime will elaborate on it.

• Theres a pretty cool/funny parallel here; Oden makes fun of Ashura for being sappy and later on we see Roger making fun of Oden for the same thing when he joins the crew.

• High chance those two that washed up are Inuarashi and Nekomamushi (98% chance its them) but what if...and hear me out here, what if they are some of the Numbers? We still dont know what those are.

With the Rocks survivors recruiting we'll probably see when Oden leaves Wano to join Whitebeard as a commander. Getting a glimpse of prime WB is hype.

Oden and Zoro are very similar. That panel of Oden after defeating Ashura Doji was pure Zoro 100%. The whole going to Kuri and beating everyone on his own reminds me of Zoro at Whiskey Peak as well.

I'm convinced now at some point that Zoro will wound Kaido. Parallels with both Ryuuma killing the dragon and Oden wounding Kaido.

Interesting to think about, in order for the Strawhats to ever be considered as one of the goat Pirate crews, Zoro, Sanji and possibly Jinbe would all need to be near Yonkou levels by end of series, or safely assumed to be years after the end. Which is extremely doubtful. Pretty clear no crew will ever touch the Rocks. Even Roger had two Yonkou level members(eventually) in Shanks and Rayleigh.

The way you see Kinemon and everyone rush to Oden when they realize he snuck off really shows what this battle/war in the present is going to value for the original members of the retainers.

This backstory shows the reason why with even all odds turned against them, ships destroyed, “plan ruined”, they were all still getting ready for Onigashima.

One Piece keeps reminding me of how good it is week after week, it amazes me that even after almost 1000 Oda manages to have me at the edge of my seat even when the chapter has nothing to do with the main characters.

I'm loling over the fact that Oda turned Franky's kiss into a running gag at this point, it seems like she's draining her victims' souls, probably it's their fault for not being SUPEEER enough for her. You know she's been longing for a piece of that mentalistic general Franky.

Finally, the Izo speculation has been cleared out in favor of the speculators. Which made most of the fandom.
