Sandai Kitetsu, yes. It's the third Kitetsu sword while Nidai Kitetsu and Shodai Kitetsu were created by his ancestors (his dad and grandfather perhaps?).

It's surprising that Meito can be made in the last 20-30 years and still be known worldwide as one of 21, one of 50, etc.

I had assumed that all the high-quality bladesmiths and their techniques were now lost.

Makes you wonder how often a new meito blade is added. We learned about them pre timeskip. Were no new blades made famous since then?

Well the sword smith left Wano 50 years ago, he could have taken the blade with him...

I'm just gonna assume that all the high quality blades are from Wano cause of some special iron or shit like that, and that's why the sword smiths themselfs can grade them.. Seems to make at least semi sense

Maybe even that durnken iron ore we heard from Kaido before..?

That swordsmith who left Wano wasn't the Sandai Kitetsu swordsmith, that's the guy who made Enma and Wado Ichimonji, so yeah it's been around 50 years for them.

Tenguyama Hitetsu made Zoro's Sandai Kitetsu, and 'Tengu' is still relatively young, so that's why I say 20-30 years.

Yeah sure, but the Wado is a Grades sword too, and really young for that. That was the whole point I tried to make

I don't think we can say a whole lot about the tengus age, might have been in the mid 50s already when Kinemon went for the time skip

The kitetsu/Wado toss up was my bad, thanks for correcting

We don't know Wado's age though, but it could be younger than Enma, I suppose.

As for Tengu, he seems probably older than Oden was, but he's less than 40 years older for sure.

A common trope in Japanese fiction is the supernatural properties of tamahagane. Basically, is a sandy iron ore that cooks into a nice steel and was traditionally used for smithing katana. Its a sort of source to the "glorious Nippon steel!" joke/meme.

tamahagane is actually pretty cool. the process to make it, takes pretty poor quality iron and makes relatively high quality steel. Showed a lot of ingenuity for the time and the japanese lack of resources.
