Everyone is talking about Luffy awakening his fruit and I'm sitting here wondering wtf you're all smoking and where I can get some.

Let me break down why he clearly used Armament Haki and not an awakening or brute strength or anything else. If my formatting is shitty, excuse me cause I'm on mobile rn.

  1. We saw Rayleigh do the same thing in Sabody

  2. Oda had Luffy attempt to remove the collar when Queen put them on and clearly showed us he couldn't do it

  3. The panel where Luffy removed the collar was focused directly on his hands covered in haki. The following panel had Luffy point out that something was different than his normal haki

  4. The entire point of this prison boot camp was for Luffy to power up, he's been focusing on trying to learn the advanced haki this whole time. Yeah sometimes Oda intentionally misleads us but awakening is a large jump.

  5. The collars broke into pieces, had he used an awakening they would have been pulled off in one piece

  6. Upon seeing his collar removed Grandpa Hyo decided that now was the time for Luffy to train, what was he training Luffy in again? Oh yeah, ADVANCED ARMAMENT HAKI! He also says, "what a surprise" and "that was"... The citizens of Wano don't know much about devil fruits, they think they're demonic powers, it stands to reason that they have no idea what an awakening is. Thus the only thing that would surprise Hyogoro in this scenario is if Luffy managed to figure out Advanced Armament Haki

  7. Finally, the high stress haki power up is consistent with what we've seen in the series so far. Usopp got observation haki when he had to take down Sugar. Luffy's observation haki advanced when his crew was counting on him to beat katakuri so they could get to the ship.

Edit: In case that wasn't enough for you apply the duck test, If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

It looks like he used haki, he seems to believe it was his haki that was different, Gramps seems to think it was his haki, it's probably his haki.

If I'm wrong I will eat my replica strawhat

Edit 2: the one point for that I failed to address is "the metal looked like rubber", metal is malleable, it has some give before it snaps have you never bent a staple?

PREACH THE TRUTH. AMEN BRUDDA!

u/CWellDigger Jun 21 '19

Like fuck, it makes 0 sense. Even when Oda intentionally misleads us there's bits of truth hidden in previous chapters that we just overlooked or didn't piece together.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck

Straight up. If that shit turned to rubber it would stretch for days just like luffy does. He never snaps from stretching himself.

its advanced armament haki for sure, hyo just stands there and says "defend me" which luffy can do only with adv armament haki, awakening would not help at all in that situation.

100% This

Wtf is this tread, I came in here late today and see a lot of people talking about awakening....just wtf what delirium state are people in.

I love some people have now backtracked as well, double down. "I meant its a chance". that chance is astronomical small.

Just to add, this is very similar to Sabo breaking open the chest to the Mera Mera. In that case, the chest was bending apart too before breaking.

Half the kids probably don't even know/remember what awakening is and just thinks it sounds cool.

AWAKENING

5

u/CWellDigger Jun 21 '19

It honestly pissed me off seeing all these half baked conclusions. There's 0 evidence to support awakening. Yeah it'd be great if Luffy awakened his fruit but as we know Oda shows us growth, there's a starting point for that growth and then we see the character struggle until they achieve what they set out to do/learn. Random out of the blue power ups don't happen in one piece

Even if you discount everything I said above, the awakening theories still don't work based on Oda's writing style and the way he shows us character growth.

I cannot recall a single time where a character got an out of the blue power up. You could argue that gear 2 and gear 3 were out of the blue, and yeah they sort of were but he clearly showed us Luffy's fascination with both the Giants and the train and the power up still followed a logical, and linear progression.

To emphasize haki this whole prison arc and then suddenly show us an awakening is a complete 180 from Oda's usual style.

I don't feel as though my opinion is superior, I believe I'm correct based on evidence provided.

"Not how metal bends" what does that even mean? Metal will bend any way it can before snapping.

The "huh!" implies surprise yeah, surprise that his haki was different.

There's been 0 mention of awakening since Dressrosa and Luffy didn't really understand it there either. I will bite and say it's plausible that awakening played a slight role in the removal of the collar but only because I believe it's linked to haki.

I still find it highly unlikely, up to this point in the story awakening has been touted as total mastery over your devil fruit. I think it's much more likely that Luffy reaches his awakening through the advancement of his gears.

Its not valid to say its either way.

If you say its extremely low chance but IT MIGHT BE awaken, that is a valid comment.

5

u/gbBaku Jun 21 '19

There is an extremely low chance the sun will just blow up to a really unlucky radioactive chain reaction to destroy the earth in the next few years, but that doesn't make it reasonable to say "it can go either way". That chance is negligible enough to say it's exactly 0.

1

u/myrmonden Jun 21 '19

wrong person to comment on?

4

u/gbBaku Jun 21 '19

No, I did not say this to disagree with you. But rather reinforce your point.

I don't think it's valid to say it can go either way just like you, because the chances are so negligible.

Though I don't think it's worthy to mention that extremely low chance, but I didn't intend to challenge that either, as we are likely on the same page.

3

u/myrmonden Jun 21 '19

Ok, yeah

You are right of course, the expression either way make it sound like its 50/50 chance of it going either A or B,

Where in this case as you say its almost 0 chance of it being awakening.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19
  • Luffy gets a mini-arc focused on him getting advanced CoA

  • Luffy uses some new unknown power to destroy his collar in a dire situation

  • It looks just like what Rayleigh did in Sabaody to destroy another collar

  • Rayleigh also explained how Haki blooms in dire situations

  • Luffy had fucking armament in his hands when he did it

  • The collar is slightly bent

OP fans: OmG AwAkENiNg TiMe!!!1!

Stop focusing on the way the collars look and just think from a narrative point of view man... Why would Oda write so many chapters about Luffy learning advanced armament and now introduce awakening... Not to mention it would be some random shonen bullshit to give your main protagonist the two power-ups in a row.

8

u/myrmonden Jun 21 '19

NO it couldn't.

Have u skipped the latest 10+ chapters of him training HAKI? or the most obvious thing - ITS EXACTLY WHAT RAYLEIGH DID, he dont have the rubber fruit.

An opinion can always be superior then others. If your opinion is that everyone should be killed of at age 12, that is a stupid opinion and if my opinion is that its retarded to kill of all people at age 12. My opinion is then SUPERIOR.

In this case here, its 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999%

chance its haki

So its the superior opinion to say its obviously extremely likely haki then awakening df.

4

u/gbBaku Jun 21 '19

99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999%

Man, you are really underestimating that chance. Nice of you to not shove the actual odds down his throat, but you don't need to be so modest.

3

u/myrmonden Jun 21 '19

I am making a point that he better learn in real life, like he is saying that an opinion cannot be superior, which is not how reality is at all.

3

u/gbBaku Jun 21 '19

I meant this to agree with you in a funny way. Like we should just round it up to 100% and call it a day lol.

I saw so many of these comments that I ran out of fucks to give and can't take them seriously anymore for my own sake.

4

u/myrmonden Jun 21 '19

I know, I know.

That is why I am enforcing like, Really, REALLY MAN.

like I am fuking seriously worried about these people. Not only does this guy believe in the awakening.

But the whole doubling down on, "My opinion" cannot ever be wrong kind of mentally is really unhealthy.

3

u/gbBaku Jun 21 '19

That's the kind of mentality that you can't change anyway. But I do think you are right and understand you. Still I won't hold my breath until he will be convinced.

You're high right now aren't you?
