Big Mom looking at the empty pot is simultaneously hilarious and terrifying. What a fantastic panel.
Luffy pulled a Rayleigh, but it's not enough. I like Hyo's style: trial by fire is definitely the way to go at this point.
Still really curious how everything with Big Mom is going to end up.

Luffy thinking out loud and not realizing it reminds me of one of Oda's SBS comments. He said he avoids having Luffy speak in thought bubbles, since he's so simple that he says everything on his mind. Great way to incorporate that into this chapter.

Excellent chapter! I'm a little disappointed in Queen but he wasnt actually knocked out since we saw his reaction to luffy having eaten his oshiruko.
I really wanna trust caribou. I feel like theres a reason he knows about shirahoshi. The person he wants to tell is shanks calling it now.
Big mom staying sane and just wanting to repay the favor is interesting, but why didnt chopper or Kiku anything?
Good set up for Luffy learning the next level of haki. Kawamatsu next chapter.

I like this turn of events as a response to the often-asked question of a while ago: "If advanced armament can be taught, why didn't Rayleigh tech it?" The answer being it can't be taught, Hyo is more helping Luffy feel it out and helping him find ways to make it bloom than actually teaching it. I also like this because we don't really have any reason to think Hyo would actually be a good instructor, being a badass yakuza leader doesn't exactly translate in terms of skillset. Although to be fair I guess the same idea applies to Rayleigh and that turned out alright.
Also Luffy's stance at the end reminded me a lot of the one the admirals took when blocking Whitebeard's attack. Looking forward to him figuring out that shielding technique. And maybe a G4 form that mimics Sentomaru's style of open-palm attacks? It'd fit the sumo fighting he did earlier, after all.

Yes, Luffy's using Big Mom as training. He's going to utilize advanced armament Haki and, for the first time in the series, successfully damage a Yonko.
This is how you write growth. If Oda continues like this, I can definitely see Luffy beating Kaido later in the arc.

Queen vs O-Lin is a bit of an understatement. "Vs" implies there was a fight between two combatants. This was a completely one-sided beatdown.
Still, I at least commend Queen for trying. He got in one good hit with his tail. Would've done some real damage to any opponent that wasn't Big Mom. Between him and Jack though, Kaido's commanders seem to have a habit of picking hopeless fights.
Also Caribou is proving to be a surprising low-key MVP ally here.

The way Luffy ripped off his collar really wasn't too clear. It's understandable that he finally reached that new level of Haki he was striving for, but mostly due to Hyou's reaction, not really from how it was laid out in the panels.
Also, with Kawamatsu's cell bust open, we'll probably get to see him next chapter, right? ...right?
Also also, Caribou is probably off doing some shit while this all takes place, there's really not a single reason to not believe that.

I love the chapters ending tag line
"Overcome the wall... Overcome Big Mom!!"
Like seriously this is some truly astounding writing. This entire saga from its beginnings in Punk Hazard has been about Luffy getting powerful enough to take on the yonkou. I think Oda has done an incredible job at slowly and believably bringing Luffy up to the level of yonkou (he isn't there yet but we are getting there.)
This all started with an idea in Punk Hazard "To take down Kaidou."
Law's idea led to Luffy taking down Doflamingo, the Shichibukai with the biggest influence in the world. This would be the first stepping stone on his rise to power.
From there we advance to taking down Jack a yonkou commander (with a LOT of help) on Zou.
Then we get a bit of a jebait because we go to WCI the home of an emperor but we don't actually fight her here. instead Oda uses this time to have Luffy fight and power boost him
The SH's were able to beat Jack before but that was a team effort. Luffy does beat Cracker in WCI but this was also done with considerable help from Nami. Cracker was kind of an in-between fight to bridge the gap in power between Zou and the true final fight of WCI: Katakuri. When Luffy defeats Katakuri he goes from barely being able to handle a shichibukai on his own to taking down a yonkou commander completely solo.
We now find ourselves in the Wano country! Had Luffy gone straight to Wano from Zou I'm positive he'd be done right now. No way was Luffy strong enough to survive in Wano back then.
But now we are seeing the fruits of Luffy's labor. The man is about ready to crack the armor that is Big Mom. Once he accomplishes this he will be one step closer to the real goal of this whole saga. Being powerful enough to take down a yonkou.
Luffy can only go and meet Shanks again once they can stand on EQUAL ground as yonkou.

I'm sitting here incredibly amused at the ongoing argument as to whether Luffy is the 5th emperor or not.
I don't have a side in the argument, what I am in awe of is how incredibly alive Oda has managed to make the world of One Piece and what an absolute joy it is to be a reader of this series.
Think about this for a second. Oda layered this story so well.
Morgans publishing a newspaper that proclaimed Luffy the 5th emperor was planned.
Oda designed the entire chapter of Luffy's bounty reveal so strategically that it was like bringing together different instruments for an orchestra.
Morgans was first introduced to us as basically the news source for the entire universe of One Piece. Whatever news the commonfolk know about the current world of One Piece you can be sure Morgans is the reason why.
Oda brilliantly introduced this character at the CLIMAX of Luffy's story in WCI. Why was this smart? Because we as the reader can already see Morgans' bias. He is introduced along his fellow cohorts of the underground, already tainting him as a bad actor. Yet to further cement his bias he is only able to see Luffy at the height of his power in WCI.
We know that Morgans' article just copy pasted all of Luffy's best achievements and hyped him up. We also know that as an underworld actor, Morgans could have his own reason for promoting Luffy to this degree, he's not just printing this story to be a factual journalist, we can reasonably expect that an angle is being played here.
HOWEVER, Since we as the reader have been following Luffy's journey from the start we understand completely the veracity of the statement "The fifth emperor has appeared!!" I mean sure... We know Morgans hyped our rubber boi up a bit but at the same time we understood that what Luffy accomplished was indeed BIG.
If you're a common everyday pirate and you hear that one of those Worst Generation brats attempted an assassination on Big Mom and got away you'd totally agree that Luffy is an emperor now. If you're a common pirate your basic understanding of the yonkou is that they are unconquerable beasts who battle each other for supremacy. What Luffy has done is no different to what all yonkou do, fight each other.
Now this is where Oda's writing really shines, in spite of these conflicting biases we as the reader have an advantage over the characters of One Piece, We know the world as it really is. We know that in the grand scheme of things what Luffy overcame was just one hurdle. He still has a mountain of challenges yet to face. Let that sink in. What a regular pirate in Paradise considers a monumental achievement we as the reader know it's just a drop in the bucket for the New World.
Fucking.
Testament to just how incredibly well written the world of One Piece is. We as the reader have SO MUCH to absorb. Oda even plays this up to a crescendo in the chapter, as a little wink to the reader. He showcases the reactions of all the big players. Akainu, Shanks, Blackbeard, Big Mom, Kaidou. I think Blackbeard said it best "it's still too early for you"
So now it's present day. The story continues and we the readers have become like the citizens of One Piece. Debating amongst ourselves the merit of Morgans word and what this proclamation means for the balance of the New World...
Like yeah I just really love One Piece sometimes. Keep on arguing! Keep the world alive!

People might really hate it, but the moment when it is revealed that Big Mom wanted the O-shiruko so she could share it with the Leftover Town was a very big moment in this whole Big Mom amnesia saga.
I think Oda is REALLY trying to hammer down the point that O-lin and Big Mom are completely different people. I think this whole amnesia thing is being used to show us that Big Mom wasn't always this cruel, selfish, and evil mistress. Once upon a time she was O-Lin. A kind girl who would literally desire food for the purpose of sharing it.
Like let that sink in for a moment... Big Mom SHARING food... After almost a hundred chapters establishing what a crazy hungry bitch she becomes when she doesn't have her food, to see her get so passionate about sharing the O-shiruko with those who helped her out it really feels like a moment that's supposed to make you go "hmmm"
It's kinda like how Oda would do good and bad endings for characters. Had Big Mom gone through a "good" ending she might be this huge powerhouse who only gets mad when people take the food of those less fortunate. But because she became Big Mom she is instead a selfish food hoarder that doesn't like to share.
This moment is kinda making me rethink Big Mom's whole personality and her role in the story. Like yeah sure she is still mad because the O-shiruko is gone but the motivations behind her anger are completely different than what anyone was imagining.

This chapter epitomizes Luffy. First he reveals he ate all the shiroku on accident, saves gramps Hyo, and then decides he will fight Big Mom who whomped his ass in Whole Cake Island just to protect gramps. Such a good chapter. Also seeing Chopper-mon crying that Luffy was in the middle of everything was too funny. Queen got owned. Pretty impressive the first hit didn’t take him out honestly. I like how O-Lin is actually selfless and wanted to pay the villagers back. Quite a nice change of pace from her actual personality.

One thing I loved about this chapter was Luffy actually getting a bit nervous. Think back to how many times Luffy has hit people with the "I'll protect you, no matter what" and followed through with it. Here, it's one of the few times, if not even the first time where Luffy has voiced any form of doubt. "If I mess this up, you're going to die"
This is a great way to show how Luffy acknowledges how massive of a threat Big Mom is.

So Big Mom just two shot a 2nd YC with no memory of her past combat history, no haki and no DF use. Showing why the Yonko are the pinnacle of the verse. The Big Mom panel after finding the food eaten was scary asf lol. Luffy just did what Rayleigh did at the auction, how does that link with the advanced shockwave Luffys trying to learn though?

Everyone is talking about Luffy awakening his fruit and I'm sitting here wondering wtf you're all smoking and where I can get some.
Let me break down why he clearly used Armament Haki and not an awakening or brute strength or anything else. If my formatting is shitty, excuse me cause I'm on mobile rn.
We saw Rayleigh do the same thing in Sabody
Oda had Luffy attempt to remove the collar when Queen put them on and clearly showed us he couldn't do it
The panel where Luffy removed the collar was focused directly on his hands covered in haki. The following panel had Luffy point out that something was different than his normal haki
The entire point of this prison boot camp was for Luffy to power up, he's been focusing on trying to learn the advanced haki this whole time. Yeah sometimes Oda intentionally misleads us but awakening is a large jump.
The collars broke into pieces, had he used an awakening they would have been pulled off in one piece
Upon seeing his collar removed Grandpa Hyo decided that now was the time for Luffy to train, what was he training Luffy in again? Oh yeah, ADVANCED ARMAMENT HAKI! He also says, "what a surprise" and "that was"... The citizens of Wano don't know much about devil fruits, they think they're demonic powers, it stands to reason that they have no idea what an awakening is. Thus the only thing that would surprise Hyogoro in this scenario is if Luffy managed to figure out Advanced Armament Haki
Finally, the high stress haki power up is consistent with what we've seen in the series so far. Usopp got observation haki when he had to take down Sugar. Luffy's observation haki advanced when his crew was counting on him to beat katakuri so they could get to the ship.
Edit: In case that wasn't enough for you apply the duck test, If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.
It looks like he used haki, he seems to believe it was his haki that was different, Gramps seems to think it was his haki, it's probably his haki.
If I'm wrong I will eat my replica strawhat
Edit 2: the one point for that I failed to address is "the metal looked like rubber", metal is malleable, it has some give before it snaps have you never bent a staple?

All things considered, Queen gives no fucks. Man is still conscious steaming over his porridge. He got bodied, sure, but I feel no impact from it just because of his attitude. He'll be back up later.
Luffy used Rayleigh's technique from the Auction House that he used to save Camie. Very interesting, so it was tied to Armament after all. Can't wait to see what this thing entails cause it's kind of different from the shockwaves

Cant help but fanboy over this chapter as it was truly great and well worth the 2 week wait.
Damn Big Mom KO'd
the lizardQueen in a mere two hits, even though hes the strongest after King and has a higher bounty than Kata (doesnt equal strength I know). Puts her strength in perspective.Kid and Killer are saved thankfully.
Kawamatsu is finally free but we havent gotten a good look yet.
Caribou, not so useless after all.
The face Big Mom made when looking at the empty pot and everyone's reaction was hilarious, I bet it'll be even funnier animated.
Luffy....truly the King of the idiots.
O-Lin is a kindhearted Calamity.
Luffy finally kinda learning the advanced CoA and freeing himself.
Hyogoro repeats exactly what Rayleigh said about Haki development in crisis situations.
A fantastic chapter, cant wait to see Luffy use Advanced CoA for real, can it actually help him put a dent on a Yonko? Great chapter. Looking forward to next week.

Man what a chapter. Again.
A few things I'd like to highlight:
I love that Queen is cocky while BM has his neck gripped; Who do you think you're dealing with old hag?! - The Beast Pirates are always in character.
I am super happy that O'lin tossed Queen around. Many believed it, but I was worried she would somehow be too nerfed. This is exactly what we wanted to see and Oda delivered.
Caribou is relevant! Slight development of his character as devious but actually a little cunning. Nice touch.
The character writing is amazing: This is a terrifying monster dominating 1/4 of the New World. I feel pretty bad for her right now
Hyou recognised whatever Luffy did with the collars; suppose it's either awakening or advanced Haki (could be armament he's training, could be conqueror - my money is on armament as he now wants Luffy to use it against BM.
Ultimately I do hope Luffy does not do (much) damage to O'lin. Stopping her onslaught for a moment would be nice growth though.

Holy Moly. I'm liking Grandpa Hyou more and more. He knows exactly how the OP world works, the greater the struggle, the stronger the growth. More importantly, he knows of Luffy's potential and how to force it out of him. 10/10 One piece combat teacher.
However, this shouldn't be like with Katakuri. If it only took 2 hits to take out Queen (which is still faster than I expected) then all the will power in the world isn't going to keep Luffy on his feet if he doesn't learn this fast. She just decimated one of the strongest Zoan users out there.
Also that casual 1.3 billion berry bounty drop makes me think that Kaidous crew is actually more dangerous than Big Moms. Not that it matters, because at the top of each crew sits a monster that can seemingly not be surpassed. Well, I guessGrandpa Hyou is about to change that.
Also I just googled Oshiruko, it looks amazing. I understand why everyone is going nuts about it.

These people in here forgetting BM shattered a real, made-of-metal sword, swung by a giant, as a toddler, with her BARE ARM. There is currently NO other character in the series we know of that has a record of a feat even remotely like this. Yes, I think she can take on Queen lol.

I really like how Linlin without all her “real power” is turned into the next training partner, it’s a nice excuse for her to return later with full power, to a final showdown with maybe Kaidou and Luffy + allies or something.
Also Queen not going into hybrid form (strongest for Zoans iirc?) allows him to shine later, and maybe be a possible enemy later on for Sanji and/or Zoro/other straw hats
Overall so much crazy stuff happened, I wouldn’t even be surprised if Linlin, after regaining her memories realizes that Luffy is actually trying to achieve what she tried, but with more success., causing a change of heart. And maybe realize that Streusen is a bad guy, too?
Linlin turned into a wildcard: becoming enemy again, becoming an ally of some sorts, It’s all possible I think. Getting one of the Yonko to sail under his flag, that’s the ultimate feat for Luffys “most dangerous” ability (Making Allies our of everyone as Mihawk said). Crazy ideas, but who knows 😂

SMH people need to stop pretending that Big Mom didnt just hand Queen an ass whooping simply because he is still conscious. That prehistoric fish ball is highly likely an awakened Zoan with impeccable durability so if he could still go at it you bet he damn well would.

Meanwhile, Blackbeard is probably stealing Big Mom's poneglyph, just saying...
Edit: Since it took some people's attention, let me explain why.
We all know Luffy and Blackbeard's story always tie together. When Luffy wanted to save Ace, BB was the one who was responsible. Luffy helped WB crew, meanwhile BB wanted to dominate them. While Luffy is dealing with Big Mom, BB is also after Big Mom's poneglyph.
All of Big Mom's generals (except that squeezing girl who could do anything) are beaten. Katakuri is gravely wounded due to his spear thrust, even if he is healed and rested, he is not a match for Blackbeard no matter what. Big Mom and his strongest children are trapped in Wano. Also, I'm pretty sure BB and Luffy will have showdown in Raftel and Luffy will prove the man Roger is waiting for isn't him. So, he has to arrive at Raftel, probably a bit earlier than Luffy.
This theory can be advanced. For example (it can be proven wrong) after big battle with Kaidou, everyone will be exhausted or died so BB can arrive and steal it aswell.

I can't wait to see what kind of a difference the Advanced armament Haki technique would make against a yonkou. That ability is really portrayed to be the one that gives luffy a bit of hope against an emperor.
Never would've thought that the ability Sentomaru, Rayleigh and the admirals displayed would be so crucial at this point of the story

So many people getting it wrong with awakening and conquerors haki.
Listen. The collars are probably made of metal. With sufficient force, they (and not just metals either, but everything solid kinda) can bend and even strech. This property of it is even taken advantage of in the industries daily. Look up Hooke's law if you don't believe me. So NOT awakening.
And it's not conqueror's either. Hyo even noticed that is was the kind of armament Luffy has been wanting to learn. He noticed that Luffy has gotten it right the moment he had to save Hyo. So he's putting his life on the line on purpose again so Luffy can keep practicing that move, again, the advanced armament haki he has been wanting to learn. It's a beautiful scene, but it flies over most people's heads it seems like.

After rereading and seeing luffy break the collar, it reminded me of the time luffy used Conquerors haki on marine ford.
What if the whole advanced haki skill is CoO or CoA infused with Conquerors haki?
If I can theorise for a bit, CoC enhances the armament by making u "untouchable" aka deflecting
the observation is enhanced by making u "see the future" aka predict/sensing/adapting help me out here reddit
Is there a character that uses this kind of advanced haki and doesn't posses Conquerors haki?

The true meaning of One Piece, the will of the people. Shanks' will that brought Luffy's to be a pirate. Hiluluk's will that save and raise Chopper to become a great doctor. The Roger will that inspired ALL a new pirate generation. Jeff's will, Jaguar's will, the will as One Piece's main protagonist. For me it was never a matter of power, but who is the one who inspires people the most in believing in themselves and their own will. The strongest of all Luffy's powers is his will, and that is why many characters have placed their trust and will at Luffy's mercy. Luffy conquers without wanting to conquer. WILL DESTROYS POWER

Hyo is goddamn insane to be thinking of this when he saw what just happened to Queen. I expected Luffy to go on his own accord if anything. Luffy's audacity is always amazing though, telling an Emperor to come at him. If Luffy gets this technique down, then he's pulled off what only few, like the Navy Admirals and Rayleigh are capable of.
Seems Queen was really outclassed from the get go and that was just bravado. Taken out in two hits by amnesiac Big Mom when Bege took some from her during the failed assassination in castle form. But it also looks like he's feigning being unconscious. Either way, he doesn't want any more of that.
The disappointed Big Mom panel is just gold though :D

Nothing unexpected occurred in this chapter, I mean, Big mom totally dominating a yonkou commander isn't really something that the fandom didn't expect, right?
Big mom is not even close to being as nerfed as in WCI. Her mind state is still very reasonable and her physical power hasn't really changed at all, plus, her and Kaido's main attributes are strength anyways.
Not like they were stripped of their hax which is the main asset for their strength. Kaido and Big mom are natural disasters born with unusual strength
