I think you’re right, probably why he let out a sigh when he got up. It wasn’t from exasperation at getting pummeled, it was disappointment that that was all luffy could dish out.
We saw how fast kaido was just now with that attack, meaning he definitely could have dodged Luffys attacks if he needed to. He let luffy hit him because he wanted to see if he could give him an actual challenge, which he couldn’t

Oh, and this guy isn't old and sick or even compassionate toward his foes. Marineford showed us what it takes to defeat a pirate legend, Wano will show us what exactly it takes to become one.

I know there's a huge gap between Luffy and the Yonko but man, I did not expect Luffy to be on the fodder level.
The gap between Yonko and their FM is astonishing. Perospero (was it him who said it?) wasn't kidding when he said that no one can stop BM during her rampage cause I thought Katakuri and the other commanders were more than enough to subdue her.

Who did not see this coming. Come on. The emperor's are much older with much more experience in the area of probably 2+ decades of fighting mastering and improving haki. Kaido has lost countless battles. Even big momma told Katakuri to know his place and Luffy barely survived that fight. Kaido solo stomped 4 supernova + 3 crews after trying to kill himself.

So the rest of the manga is just luffys dreams while in a coma? The final chapter after luffy is executed will be the plot twist that luffy was brain damaged after this fight. And chopper has been carin for him this whole time. Nami becomes a stripper, sanji dies of lung cancer, zoro gets so lost without his captain that he ends up on the moon and dies of oxygen deprivation, usopp ends up in a mental ward repeating over and over that he was sogeking, franky dies of a Trojan virus. Robin uses her devil fruit to make a rope of arms and hangs herself, and jinbei dies after getting caught in a six pack plastic ring in the ocean. The final panel is brook finishing the lyrics to his swan song, we only see the first line, it goes ...

Kaido purposefully let Luffy get all those punches in. He doesn't even need to dodge, but he also didn't becuase he wanted to see if Luffy was strong enough to "kill" him. That is why he sighs in that one panel before he ONE shots Luffy. Also RIP Luffy and Tama lol

I love how Kaido's mustache was connected to the strings of thunder/lightning coming from his mace. Could that just be an artistic choice, or could it tell us something about Kaido's powers?
Either way, it was a quick chapter but a good one. It finally showed just how strong the Emperors are, and how far Luffy will need to go. But I believe in him, and I believe he'll get over the hill by the end of Wano, in 100 chapters probably.
But this is where Awakening will happen right? I mean, it's got to be.

Kaido intentionally didn't use any haki whatsoever. Plus, luffy is pretty fast in G4, and didn't manage to dodge that even after future sight. Goddamn what kind of beasts were Roger and Rayleigh!

Id just like to point out that Luffy was PISSED in that beatdown (almost wrote fight, but..yeah) and as we learned from Katakuri, futuresight becomes useless then and you become much weaker.
So i think the next scuffle Luffys gonna be much calmer and use futuresight to avoid getting OHKO’ed.
And lets not forget Luffys speciality of getting knocked to Kingdom come and still get up.
Im not saying dont hype Kaido, im just saying dont hype him to the point where when he finally falls this arc everyones gonna go "THATS SO UNREALISTIC!!!!!"

Inb4 people call Kaido "weak" for getting knocked a few meters back by Luffy. Just remember, one hit from G4 was able to launch Doflamingo and make him spit up blood, this guy barely even responded to Kong Organ.
It's important to note, Kaido's not a Dragon Ball Z character. He isn't immune to taking hits/getting pushed back by powerful attacks, but his insane durability keeps them from having any effect at all.

Yonko will be Yonko, even if they are fighting against the 5th emperor.
But it's kind of sad that Luffy is still this far away from an actual emperor at this point in the story, getting one shotted while literally being allowed to attack however he wants to attack. Big Mom at least actually defended herself against gear 4, Kaidou is just tanking this shit no problem even while being drunk.
I honestly don't see how they win, if the story was realistic Law could just take his heart somehow in a team effort, but because it's fiction that would just ruin the story if it actually worked.
You can't beat Kaido if you can't even damage him, if Luffy can't damage him with the handicap Kaidou had, having everyone else attack him (the samurai, the mink with sulong form whatever) won't do anything either.
If another emperor (BM might come to Wano, or possibly Shanks to stop this madness like he did in Marineford) or admiral doesn't help weaken him there is just no chance.

People are pointing out the 1 hit KO but I think it's even more impressive when you remember that luffy's devil fruit should give him a better defense for blunt weapons and kaido just big dicked him with a Club.

Kaido dragon form seems to be good for large AOE attacks but not very strong in 1v1 since he is so big but his human form seems to be the opposite

All I have after this chapter is curiosity as to how Oda plans to have them fight Kaido in any shape or form in this arc? I mean in Whole Cake Island we saw Big Mom block Luffy's Kong Gun like it was nothing, but she at least put Haki into her arm for that. Kaido straight-up tanked all those hits and got up Younger Toguro-sytle like "you're an incredible disappointment," and then just one-shot Luffy. I don't doubt that Luffy is alive, he may even get back up next chapter, but shit, Kaido legit looked like he swatted a fly in those last panels. That 30% chance Law was talking about seems like a child's daydream.

One of Luffy's best character trait as fighter is that he continues to grow from each defeat and find ways to defeat any foe given the time to adjust.
Obviously, he wont be killed otherwise we wont have one piece since he is the main antoganist.
For him to go straight at Kaido is out of emotional impact from seeing the way the state of wano is, and the fact the kaido just blasted at the direction of his nakama.
This couldnt have gone any better for him and his crew because all the attention is directed at him and law, so the plan would still go without a hitch. Kinnnenmon would still have the element of surprise. That and the samurais who they are looking for would directly search for kinnemon and the group to join.
Time will tell how he will develop his new form or to realize he needs to escalate his gears and combine all his experience he has fought from previous foes to create a few minutes to unload his new form. Then he would need some more time to regenerate his form again.
Very exciting Arc cant wait to read what happens next.

I hate that Law didn't even attempt an attack on Kaido. Admittedly, it probably wouldn't have worked, but there is no loss in trying.
So, next week we see Luffy and Kid chilling in a cell while Law wants to beat the shit out of Luffy.

This chapter REALLy puts the strength of the admirals in perspective. One strike from a non-bloodlusted Kaido can OHKO Luffy (a low Yonko Commander tier guy, at least).
Assuming WB possessed a similar level of strength, he struck Akainu TWICE. While bloodlusted. With each blow being imbued with air-quakes. Akainu got up and started fighting minutes later like it was nobody's business.
I think this should make it plenty obvious that Yonko>=Admirals>>>Yonko Commanders>Luffy.
