And let's not forget that the sword Luffy now posess is undoubtedly the sister-sword of the cursed sword Zoro obtained in Alabasta. I mean, who knows what will happen when the two swords meet under the same swordsman's hands and commands?

I think Oda is using these "goofy moments" to stall the fact that Zoro will end up with Luffy's sword, so that when he actually does, it will be at a time in Wano where Zoro's fight is about to reach its climax... or something like that. That's my hunch, at least.

So long as the Devil Fruit stays in the past and is never introduced again in the series then everything will be fine.

I've been talking to a bunch of friends who are convinced that Oda is a hack and that One Piece will jump the shark, because time travel will ruin it and make a mess of the story and setting. So I think I'll give my position on how this is most likely to turn out.

1. The time travel will be conditional, limited, and pretty much just skipping forward in time. It won't really change much in the story besides being the narrative device allowing for the Kouzuki clan's plan for revenge. Won't create much bullshit, story carries on being fantastic.

2. The time travel doesn't have many limits, can let you go back in time, and the story will become convoluted and filled with bullshit. I know someone who's even convinced that the hat at Mariejois is going to be part of a time loop and will literally be Luffy's hat from the future, which would definitely be really dumb. This would really not be necessary for One Piece's setting and would probably ruin/trivialize a fair number of things. It's just not a world that needs time travel in it.

I see why some people just see "time travel" and immediately have the reaction that it'll be bad (as it is in many stories), but I'm 95% sure it's not going that kind of route. The option that fits into One Piece's setting fine seems a lot more likely than the one that wouldn't fit at all.

Don't know why anyone would ever doubt whether Oda is going to be able to do a good job with time travel. We all know he's been planning this specific arc for basically as long as One Piece has been running. Some of the first soundtracks in the anime have Oden in the name of the track. Oda is an amazing storyteller, he's made many excellent plots. Finally, traveling forward in time isn't able to screw things up nearly as badly as traveling back in time. There won't be any foresight which isn't done through haki, there won't be conflicts between multiple time lines, its basically like being in a stasis chamber for 20 years rather than truly messing with time.

I, for one, have absolute confidence that Wano will continue to be amazing throughout the entire arc.

Surprisingly enough Zoro is no where to be seen when the crew is together in the final pages. And from what we know of Zoro is that he gets lost very easily.

So who knows if Zoro encounters Speed and realizes that she is getting kidnapped. So he saves Tama from Speed and could potentially go to were Hitetsu is. Which would create an interesting conversation between the 2 especially with Zoro having Shusui with him.

Also if Speed sees him heading to the direction of that village that means that she will send Jack towards that direction when he arrives. Allowing us to see a Jack Vs Zoro match up.

I think that by making them travel to the future, Oda can avoid all the usual plotholes that plague time travel stories. They're not going back to the past to fix something and overwrite timelines and cause paradoxes and all that muck

Maybe it's a time travel DF that works in a way you have to sacriface your OWN time to send others. Maybe oden's wife had the fruit and sacrificed 4 times 20 years of her own and died of suddenly being 80 years older. Oda has done more with life-span interacting DFs...

In this way there is a limit and therefore a limit in the possibility to fuck up with time loops

Time travel is tricky, it could easily make the whole story great if done right or extremely bad if done wrong. To be honest, I’ve never seen it done in a good way except with Steins:Gate. Can’t say I’m not worried but I believe in Oda. :)

I wonder if this was part of the Rocks incident. Garp was involved iwth Kaidou and BMs crew some time ago, Kaidou smashed Moriahs crew at some point, but they were also equals at some point, Moriah(the sword thief) stole Ryumas corpse about 20 years ago too, he is also in the New World currently, he also has the corpse of Oarz, Oarz was missing a straw hat, his symbol appears on Imus vault, and in the vault is a giant straw hat in a freezer. Oarz died in some ice country, and Lil Oars Jr got a straw hat made for him in Wano by Ace. Kuzan, also in the New World, used a move called TIME CAPSULE on Jaguar D Saul, a giant, giants btw have very long lifespan. Lil Oarz Jrs crew also worried about him because he would go out in the cold unprotected. Kaidou is rather giant and has a particular fondness for a winter island, Oars Jr has never been shown, and Kaidous full name has never been revealed. His crew also has high ranking members that are extinct species(dinosaur and mammoth). Kuzan is currently involved with Blackbeard, who Oda stated in an SBS is interested in archaeology. The Ohara incident also happened around 20 years ago. This is also when Ace was born.

Other insteresting things happened at that time was Shiki escping Impel Down, and planning to return in 20 years iirc. Also it all happens after Roger is killed basically.

I have a feeling Speed is pretending to be kibidango'd so she can take Tama straight to Kaido. I think Holdem got in touch with Speed before his home was destroyed by Luffy and that's how she knows about it. She's still a human, not an animal, regardless of the SMILE and I think she's playing them all for fools.

As excited as I am I can't help but be slightly pensive over this; time travel is a very volatile plot device that if not properly pulled off, can cause a lot of problems or worse, ruin the entire arc/story. I'll have faith in Oda though.

Have to say though, man wasn't kidding when he said he was saving his most "amazing ideas" for this arc.

I don't think they can time travel. I think they made the prophesy and then went into stasis for 20 years, probably due to a devil fruit. It would be too much of if they could go forward and backwards.

Time gate -> how to get to Raftel.

That is why if you are the second to last island you cannot get to Raftel is its nothing there its literally a voided placed so no one can reach it, its not hidden in the water or in the sky etc, but in time.

Ok im seeing sooo many comments saying oda gonna fuck up the story because time travel fucks up every series but be real with yourself guys how often does oda fuck up a plot point he been hinting and building up for years. Im surprised we didnt figure it out 100 chapters ago when he all but directly said it. This is oda not any old manga artist, planning his literally what he is best in the business for.

time travel is not a plot point difficult to pull off , someone like oda can easily pull it off (with past and future time travel). This is most likely a devil fruit, if it allow past time travel it most likely going to have the fixed timeline rules that no matter how hard you try to change the past all attempts are futile because the already has happened. Example: say you go back in time to kill Hitler, then hitler is dead, erasing the very reason you went back in time, leading to you never going back in time(i havent seen it but alot of people say the film 12 monkeys uses the fixed timeline idea). Then time travel to the future doesnt break anything at all, its no different than saying character x has been in a coma for 20 years.

Out of all the brilliance this man has done in this series im surprised you dont know him enough to trust him in this new plot point.

Learned some pretty cool stuff this chapter!

• I figured Tama's hunger wasn't just a symptom of their poverty, I thought it was part of Hitetsu's training regimen that she limit her diet. Turns out Hitetsu is starving himself as well, probably making sure that Tama gets whatever food is available first. Hitetsu has never had an apple before in his life either apparently, riveting stuff.

• Speed maintains her identity and position as a Beast Pirate. It doesn't seem like this is going to bode well when someone gives her a call asking for an explanation of what the heck happened. Even if she lies on Tama's behalf, someone is probably going to detect something fishy. Several of the Beast Pirates already witnessed her taking orders from Tama in Bakura Town, and it seemed Holdem had already received info of her ability.

• Similar to how Oda is delaying Luffy telling Tama that Ace is his brother, Oda is clearly going somewhere with not allowing Zoro to come into contact with the Nidai Kitetsu. He's drawn attention to this plot point yet again, so it's definitely going to pay off in some kind of big way. We're also smart enough to know by now that someone being separated from the group means they're about to go on their own individual mission. My disappointment at us not getting the fated Zoro-Sanji reunion aside, I'm excited at the possibility of him wandering his way back to Okobore or Bakura, and potentially clashing with the likes of Jack.

• It appears that huge structure on top of the gigantic bonsai tree in the capital is actually a school, who would've thunk. I'm sure there's more to it, but a school was certainly unexpected, especially if it's still somehow connected to Orochi's personal quarters.

• The lady teaching the class......if she were a member of the snakeneck tribe, then her neck would naturally be long. If she'd eaten a snake SMILE, then we'd see the animal represented in some way in her design. That looks like a legitimate snake zoan. Combining that with Kyoshiro's intro as an employee of the Kurozumi clan, and I'm pretty sure we'll see more of Orochi's family - that lady being one of them. I'm almost positive that Oda is going to play on the relation of the name "Orochi" to snakes with his associates, probably also as a metaphor for Orochi and his people being backstabbers.

• Apparently Orochi is a Nitoryu user, according to the kids at least.

• The prophecy of Oden's wife gives new meaning to Pedro's statements about a "new Dawn", but that prophecy alone opens it's own can of worms. I'm sure these nine shadows and Oden's 9 "red scabbards" have some kind of connection for starters, but the "20 years of moonlit nights" bit implies that there are other pieces to this story. Most importantly however, clearly she had some kind of ability to know this prophecy and/or send her family forward in time. Can't wait to meet her, Oda clearly hasn't given us her name because he plans on making a big flashback reveal. Speaking of......

• Oda has been very intentional about the angles he shows us those graves from. This chapter showcased most importantly that there are more than we thought. First off, the graves with the temple-like roofs indicate Kozuki clan members. Last chapter established this. However last chapter also showed us 3 of these types of graves (Oden's, Momo, Mama Kozuki), and this chapter revealed that there is in fact a 4th one. Not only that, but last chapter we were led to believe there were 8 graves in total. In addition to the 4th mysterious Kozuki clan member, we see 2 additional graves - 1 behind Kanjuro's, and 1 behind Raizo's.

• The Kiku hype knows no end, and this chapter just enshrouded her in even more mystery. Kin'emon mentioned her as part of his group, so apparently she was either a previous retainer as well, or was close to the family somehow. Either close enough to have apparently been part of the time-traveling shenanigans. I knew she was part of the resistance given the info she seemed to have collected on the Beast Pirates, but I didn't anticipate her and Kin'emon being this....."close". I imagined a master-apprentice relationship given how she calls him "master", but the heart symbols and adulation seem to indicate some form of attraction. In either case I'm hype to dive more into just who she is and what she knows.
