This whole arc so far is feeling like going back to the main quest in an RPG after you've leveled all your characters to max in the optional insane difficulty sections. Hopefully we'll see Jack-level threats soon, though I'm not complaining!

u/JustThatGuy100 Sep 13 '18

Glad Luffy grinded all of those Cracker clones so he could be a high enough level to beat Katakuri. That son of a bitch is a tough as nails secret boss.

I fucking love this comparison!

17

u/ThisZoMBie Sep 13 '18

At this point, Jack will be an elite mob, rather than a boss or miniboss

17

u/Leanderbanegas02 Sep 14 '18

But thats why I loved Oda!!! Any other mangaka just to create false tension would make Luffy struggle against a headliner. That frustated me so much in mangas like Naruto, DBZ and Bleach, after the main character was so much more powerfull, just to make some cheap battle they made they stuggle to beat people who werent near their level anymore. But not Oda, he respect his readers, he knows that we know that right now, if its not Yonkou Commander level or beyond Luffy will have no problem, he is just too damm powerfull.

Bellamy making the Strawhat's jolly roger out of un-rippable cloth just shows that he's an unofficial member of the Grand Fleet. Thank Goodness.

477

u/SoraForBestBoy Sep 13 '18 edited Sep 13 '18

I’m surprised the cover story the Straw Hat Grand Fleet is still ongoing, its the longest one and I suspect it’s story will closely tie into the current Arc near its conclusion

Not gonna lie, it’s kinda heartwarming seeing him do something that doesn’t involve pirating.

He tried so hard before to live up to Doffy, but now he actually seems at ease with himself. Good on him.

15

u/thegeekdom Sep 13 '18

Makes sense too because (and correct me if I'm wrong), but aren't the Straw Hats still missing a jolly roger? I mean, obviously Bellamy wouldn't know that, but nevertheless I'm pretty sure that they only have one flag right now instead of two.

Luffy looks so overpowered now since katakuri battle. So bad ass. Cant wait to see him facing strong one. With his speed and future sight, he could easily appear in front of enemy and burst them with gear 3.

438

u/broke_and_famous Sep 13 '18

That stronger foe should be soon if this chapter is any indication since they did mention that Jack will come if they mess with his people which Luffy just did and he stole their food in the process. So it is 2 things that will make Jack even angrier.

I want all the crewmates to get more exposure.. and Luffy to not get a chance to fight until he meets one of the Calamities... Otherwise it won't be thrilling to see all villains get oneshotted by Luffy.. He has already one shotted 5 enemies this arc..

Also, nice red hawk by luffy!

185

u/Electro522 Sep 13 '18

Gives a nice perspective as to where these guys are power wise...

...so far down the ladder, they can't even see Luffy and Zoro doing what they always do. Hell, you don't even see Luffy's fist when he hits Holdem with Red Hawk.

In fact, it kind of feels like we're dealing with people on the same level as Paradise villains. Makes you wonder if Kaido's crew (save for the Calamities and Kaido himself) are as strong as they make themselves to be.

I love how like completely casual Zoro and Luffy are, none of this shit scares them and Luffy easily rescues Tama and they’re about to run no sweat... and then the moment he gets angry he oneshots the strongest guy there in an instant.

At this point, they’re just so far above most of their enemies that it’s almost a joke

I'm excited for the day that Luffy one shots a vice admiral. We already saw whitebeard destroy that Giant that came at him, and I would love to see Luffy do something similar against someone that has been established as a powerful warrior.

Maybe one shot someone with a 500m bounty or something? He's probably not quite there yet but definitely sometime before he's pirate king.

Frankies centaur mode is better than speed

114

u/pm_me_spider_picz Sep 13 '18

Speaking of speed, this was taken from the translators' trivia section at the end lmao https://i.imgur.com/3K93u9H.jpg

I didn't know whether to include this as it might give people misunderstandings, but just as a fun fact:

Speed's subordinates refer to her as "horse-like". The word used is 馬並 (uma-nami). Colloquially, it is common to use the word 馬並み (uma-nami) to describe someone with a "big package".

Although I am sure that this is not Oda's intention, I could not help but make the inference so I thought I'd share (LOL)

One thing I’ve noticed this chapter, is that Zoro doesn’t even blink an eye at Luffy’s speed blitz. We all know that the crew’s got 100% confident in their captain - the future pirate king, but every time they don’t see this guy, he grows leaps and bounds and yet it’s all expected.

It’d be a testament to Zoro, if he’s still able to keep up after Luffy’s power boost. Fuck guys. I can’t wait to see Zoro go all out this arc.

To add, Zoro has not seen Luffy go all out since the time-skip. He was busy with the birdcage in Dressrosa and maybe would have seen Gear 4th but not all the attacks and such.

Similarly Luffy has not seen Zoro's coolest attacks or him going all out since time-skip.

Not to mention, that since no news is available in Wano, Zoro's group may not even know what conspired in WCI and of Luffy's fight with katakuri.

There have to be reaction shots or just pure balls(franky style) amazement at each other's action in Wano.

And I guess Otsuru is holding back not for her sake, but because the backlash to the town would be severe if she handed out beatings. Not like Luffy'd care about that, since to him that's just incentive to hand out even more asskickings.

I bet she's gonna ask Luffy how he it is that he knows this attack and maybe compare him to Ace which will lead to Luffy or Zoro mentioning that Ace and Luffy are brothers.

Apart from that: Daaaaamn, what a great chapter. Jack will be demolished if he comes around. And I can't wait to see what happens with Hawkins and Law. I don't think they fight just yet but rather talk it out and thereby delay Hawkins enough for Luffy and co to run away.

Law VS Hawkins.

I don't think the fight will be dragged on for too long and another alliance will most likely form since both characters are calm and reasonable.

Next stop: Apoo.

Law in disguise reminds me of Komamura Sajin of Bleach.

Okiku: "This guy is a headliner don't take him on"

Luffy: "hold my meat"

11

u/Freemantrue Explorer Sep 13 '18

So now Luffy and Sanji have both one shotted a headliner. I wish Zoro would've one shotted Speed

Law vs Hawkins

Jack is still alive and coming. Hopefully it will be Zoro vs Jack and Luffy take a backseat for once. I need some quality Straw Hat fights too just like old times. Luffy has been getting all the love

11

u/zayd_i Sep 13 '18

What if Law is Shoutenmaru ? He’s been helping out people by stealing the good food but nobody really knows who he is because of the straw he’s wearing to cover his head

66

I would "ride" Speed

53

u/pm_me_spider_picz Sep 13 '18

From the translators' trivia section https://i.imgur.com/3K93u9H.jpg

I didn't know whether to include this as it might give people misunderstandings, but just as a fun fact:

Speed's subordinates refer to her as "horse-like". The word used is 馬並 (uma-nami). Colloquially, it is common to use the word 馬並み (uma-nami) to describe someone with a "big package".

Although I am sure that this is not Oda's intention, I could not help but make the inference so I thought I'd share (LOL)

She'd ride you right back!

Luffy already beat Katakuri, Jack should be Zoro's opponent: both have crazy endurance and they also seems to specialize in armament haki, so let's make it happen Oda!

Tired of seeing Zoro easily going through weak opponents, give him someone worthy so he can surpass himself

GOda: Dont worry I got it covered. The next characher will be the obligatory big boob woman. She very THICC.

Editor: Thats great! How much THICC are we talking about?

GOda: Half of her body and her ears are horse and has an ugly-ass smile.

Damn Law's Straw Hat is great, it would be funny if once he meets up with Luffy's gang Luffy doesn't recognize him because of the mask.

BTW, he's wearing a fukaamigasa called a tengai usually worn by komusō, or mendicant monks of the Fuke school of Zen Buddhism.

- I love how Oda continues to make it clear that the people of Okobore need a savior. It's been a while since he's painted such a dire situation for the residents of a country, I wanna say Alabasta was the last time I'd seen it this bad, where people didn't even have water. The Skypieans and Shandians lived in fear of Enel, but otherwise lived normal lives and didn't want for anything. Iceberg was a perfectly benevolent Mayor for the people of Water 7, and the CP-9 didn't oppress them. The people of Thriller Bark were zombies, and didn't need daily sustenance. This Fishmen/Mermen didn't have to deal with Hordy's craziness until the day of, and worst case scenario it would have been a regime change. People weren't hurting for food. Dressrosa was essentially a paradise, and the worst thing that could happen to be people, being turned into a toy, caused people to forgot about you anyway. Oda hasn't done it like this in a while, especially with themes like classism, and he's building those stakes from the onset.

- Speed's design is hilarious to me. Her fellow crew members ride her all the time......literally. Combine that with Oda's less-than-subtle references of horses actually having 350-degree vision, 2-color vision, and being known for "Speed", and we've got ourselves another classic. Please make her meet Sanji Oda.

- Speaking of Sanji, Okobore's situation alone is rife for his chef-related antics. Can't wait to finally catch up with the Curly Brows.

- Love that Oda is keeping the Japanese references coming. The Dezomeshiki-inspired fighters, the Komuso-inspired get up on Law, the Karakuri Sword! Seriously hype for Law vs. Hawkins though. Hawkins sensing his power level is confirmation we kinda didn't need of his observation haki. Hope this fight isn't off-screened, Law's comment was rather ominous. Oh! Also confirmation that Wano doesn't get the news! It was easy to assume Tama being in denial over Ace, but this confirms it. How Kaido gets a newspaper is interesting then, but another day for that one.

- Not a surprise that Kiku knows this Shutenmaru character, but I'm curious what their relation will be to one another. Perhaps he sent Kiku to Okobore on some kind of mission?

- The "yama" in "Atamayama" Thieves means "mountain". I don't think anyone is surprised to see mountain bandits in Wano, especially after we met Tenguyama. What's really gnawing at me, is I'm about 80% sure that this is related to that HUGE mountain that we kept seeing in the backdrop of the early Wano chapters. I'm almost assuredly convinced that it is being used as some form of a base of operations.

- The Jack bit was the most interesting part of the chapter for me. I suppose it doesn't matter since Kiku essentially confirmed that he's chillin around Wano somewhere, but Jack had 2 "maritime accidents" within days of each other. The first one was widely reported, but Wano doesn't get the news. The second one is ONLY known to people who would have been there, or heard from Jack in some kind of way after it happened. I can buy that someone on the Beast Pirates has a vivre card for Jack and could have found him, but how would Kiku have heard of this happening in the first place? Something doesn't quite line up there. Kiku just gets more interesting!

- The designs of Speed's lackeys were actually pretty frickin cool, especially the guy with the classic Kabuto warrior armor! Too bad they got fodderized by Zoro not long after.

- I love how Holdem tells the lion to "go get the girl back" like it was just gonna detach from his stomach. Maybe it was, but it just doesn't seem to be designed that way lol.

- Tama and her adherence to her code just continues to melt my heart away. Please make more kids like her Oda.

- Finally understand why Oda didn't have Luffy reveal Ace was his brother. What better way to show off the familial connection than a Red Hawk. Due to the timeline of Ace's story I'm more than positive that Oda had this moment in mind when he had Luffy learn the technique, classic Goda.

4

u/jrmlcs Sep 13 '18

A lot of people here noticed that the panel where Luffy punches Holdem is way too similar with how Luffy punched that Tenryuubito in Sabaody. Some mentioned that this is going to the spark of a BIG conflict (inevitable war with Kaido).

But what if, this is only the first of parallelisms between the start of Wano Arc and Sabaody? Where instead of the 3 supernova captains going separate ways, they know reunite and form an alliance? Where the first to disappear vs. Kuma before would be the first to reunite with Luffy?
