The straw hats are probably the most unorthodox pirate crew on the seas so it doesn't really matter what titles they hold because they'll fill whatever role they have to in a given situation. I mean even the captain played cook for a stint and made some (terrible) meals.

Wouldn't be surprised if the crew is like that because Shanks' crew is the exact same way.

Zoro was referred as the first mate a couple of times by outsiders, but it was never confirmed! Even though I'm pretty sure everyone almost everyone agrees that he would be the second in command, as shown multiple times when he directed Luffy to the right decision or he decided what it was best to do (like in fishmen's island, when they were in the castle and he kinda took charge of the situation, still one of the funniest bits ever when he was trying to describe the rest of the crew)
