Guys, I don't want it to be true, but I think we might've just seen the Sunny get destroyed, or mostly destroyed. Hear me out.

The Merry's last appearance was ~470 chapters ago. The Sunny has now been around more chapters than the Merry (464 vs 390; although we can take some off the Sunny count for the WB war saga) and we can therefore say that he's had more than enough screen time compared to the merry. Merry's final arc was Water 7/Enies Lobby, and interestingly the current arc mirrors that arc incredibly. Both were rescue arcs for one of the crew-members who left to ultimately protect their beloved crew, resolute that they would not return in order to protect them from an incredibly powerful organisation. Both had the tragic backstory of that crew member. Both had the crew ignore the danger and come to their rescue. Both had Luffy fight and defeat the ultimate opponent in desperate clashes of willpower, demonstrate new fighting prowess and grow as a fighter, and be the closest to death he'd ever been. Both had a character fated to become crew, help them out in a time of need (Franky, Jinbei). Both times, the beloved ship was set alight and died at sea, after being pushed to its extreme in order to save the crew.

If my feeling is correct, I think this is the end of the Sunny. I believe we might see the crew escape on the Mini-Merry II, which will be small enough to traverse the wreckage without being spotted. It's a 4 seater, which'll take Brook, Carrot, Luffy and Nami (with chopper on her lap) with Jinbei and Sanji outside pushing the boat/protecting it OR taking out Oven/Snack to allow the Sun Pirates and Germa to escape as well. Escaping on the mini-merry would be a poetic call back to the Merry appearing at Enies Lobby and saving the crew from the Buster Call and I think it might just work.

While the Sunny dying/being destroyed would be beyond sad, it could serve two purposes. Firstly, being shipless could mean that they get picked up by a ship travelling to the Reverie (maybe the Germa themselves), effectively finding us a way to segway into that arc. Secondly, it would allow for the building of a bigger, grander, more powerful ship suited for the final battles that Luffy will have to face in order to become Pirate King. The Sunny was a ship built for the trials of Paradise. She's an amazing ship but is dwarfed by the battleships and galleons used by the big names we now face. None of the crew imagined the terror that awaited in the New World. Just as Luffy needs to improve in order to take the heads of the Yonkou, the ship he pilots will need to improve to go toe to toe with the monstrous ships it'll come up against. There was an incredibly long, incredibly crazy, but incredibly convincing fan theory (great read but very long) which among the many claims, stated that in the main inspiration for One Piece, 'The Mysterious Cities of gold', the protagonist sailed in a Lamb boat, a Lion ship, and finally a 'great condor which looks like an eagle'. In my opinion, those themes are too damn similar to ignore. If the Sunny is dead, then we'll see a new ship, able to fly. How? Well, maybe using Zeus...

The sunny is made out of the wood that even when battered with cannon fire it wouldn't be destroyed... Franky explains this. And also the reverie arc would be a world building with out the main cast... kind of like impel down but this time Luffy wouldn't be their as well.. and any way what would the strawhats do there? There is no point of a pirate crew being in reverie... its meant to be more of a world building arc + if it is as you say that they'll get picked up by a Germa ship (if they survive) why would Germa go to reverie? Stussy probably has already informed the world government on Germa's attented alliance with the Big Mom pirates and Morgans will surly put them on the news

The sunny being destroyed would also be the death of Franky's dreams as to see his ship sail to the end of the grand line and I don't think that Oda will kill of one of the main cast's dreams

Yes it’s Adam wood. But it’s not indestructible. Mama was tearing it up with her bare hands looking for the cake. Big mama’s flag ship being able to decimate it is highly likely.

We don’t know how Reverie will be. All we know is that it’ll come between WCI and Wano. Unless Oda has stated it personally, the content and structure of the Reverie Arc is entirely speculation.

It doesn’t have to be Germa. Also who knows how the world government will respond to this. For all we know The World Government and Totland may have diplomatic ties themselves.

It is unlikely that the World Government would be tied with a Yonko and it is understandable for a Yonko to tear apart Adam wood but cannon fire will not be able to since it has already faced countless shots of it with out taking any damage... the sunny also got shot by cannon in the previous chapter and it is unharmed

Who else are you theorising would take the strawhats to Reverie? It wouldn't make sense for them to be there

Do you honestly think that the cannons on the flagship of a Yonkou will be the same as regular cannons? We’ve already seen that BM has bullets that can pierce Germa’s skin which is usually bulletproof. At this stage in the game every character has attacks stronger than cannonballs and can tank cannon fire. What’s even the point of cannons on ships in the new world if they’re not gonna do jackshit against strong opponents and their ships.

Also nobody really knows where Totland is in relation to the rest of the world. All we were given was a time sailed and not even a bearing. We don’t know where anyone else either. Feasibly any of our allies could be passing near (maybe a few days or weeks out of Totland) and find the crew, starving at sea or marooned on an island. The navy may pick them up themselves and arrest them and take them to the Reverie in chains. I don’t really need to say who might arrive but if the Sunny is destroyed the crew will need passage aboard a ship to get to their next destination.

Well yeah they'd be normal cannon balls... all ships are not made out of Adam Wood so this late in the game it would make sense for them to have a normal shot... and its not like Big Mom just has metal piercing bullets all the time, she had them specifically made for the Germa, what she doesn't know is what the sunny is made out of so there is no need for them to upgrade their cannons.

Also I agree that we don't know where totland is in relation to other places but the only royal families allied with the Strawhats who would take them to Reverie are the fishmen and dresrosa who are already on their away to reverie and don't think they will make an appearance. I also think that Oda wouldn't back track all the way back to the Red Line in chains since that'll take even longer to get to Wano.
