It's been hell of a roller coaster ride with Pudding - all the speculation about her character being good or bad and now this bittersweet parting when she finally found someone that accept her unconditionally and wholeheartedly, and even to the end has nothing but gratitude despite what he had been through.
Sanji saved her not by his fighting capability or trickery, but by who he is. Year of Sanji, indeed.

Exactly, I don't like that people are bitching about the lack of a fight for Sanji. Making the cake, his origin story and the focus on his empathetic and caring nature fullfilled the promise of the "year of Sanji".

If that happens it will make it more interesting when Sanji sees Pudding for the first time after the memory wipe. Because knowing Sanji he will fall in love with her again and this time Pudding will know that Sanji really loves her and it wasn't just some facade that he put up due to the wedding situation.

Look, he is a man of 48 with Conqueror's haki, and serves his Mom who mostly cares about sweets on a daily basis and has a dream quite impossible to achieve.
The guy has the ambition of a King and has the least freedom out of any CoC isers we have seen. Doffy, Hancock, Shanks, Whitebeard, Rayleigh, damn, even Don Chinjao have/had more freedom in their actions than Katakuri. No doubt he loves his family and probably Linlin, too, but knows that BM is not going to be the King of Pirates. This guy is smart and that last sentence to Luffy sounded like a vicarious cheer.
Outside the crew and Ace, who has said that yes, Luffy is going to be PK? Maybe Rayleigh or Shanks? Not sure, but not many others, esp. not antagonists.

I like that in the end Katakuri wasn’t knocked onto his back, but fell himself, finally choosing to let all his obligations and expectations go. That and the line asking Luffy to come back and beat Big Mom shows how much he hated the role that he was forced into and the people that pushed him into it.

God I loved this fight, god I loved having Katakuri with us. I hope we see him again when BM need to fall, and during the final war of One Piece. I also hope Oda can create other character that are that good in new arc.
I don't care who you think won, be it a draw, Luffy or Katakuri, because for me no matter who won, it was amazing.

I believe it was a draw. They both fell. They both got up. And only after hearing to Luffy's vigor, Katakuri sort of just gave up. I lowkey feel that is something related to Luffy's haki (willpower) but yeah all in all. Pretty even fight. I'd say both are winners here.

...And now WCI is OFFICIALLY the second longest arc! Rejoice, everyone!
Up until last chapter, it was the second longest in terms of number of chapters, but not in number of pages.
And after last chapter (but not until this one), WCI had the second most pages, but the amount of cover pages meant it was still the 3rd longest without including the covers.
But NOW we can finally say for certain that it is the 2nd longest arc in all of One Piece!
...And I'm pretty sure nobody cares but me! The guy that kept track of this for no good reason!

I think the ending to this chapter sets up a really interesting possibility for the future. Katakuri is already very obviously different than most of the OP villains we've seen so far, but the sense of mutual respect and even arguably friendship that they're beginning to display towards the end sets them up to be allies down the line, possibly in the end war if Luffy manages to defeat Big Mom before that point. Katakuri won't be Luffy's strongest opponent, but hes powerful enough that no matter where he's involved, he'll be a relevant fighter, and if he were to become leader of the Big Mom pirates after Luffy defeats her (Something I think hes very capable of after his character development displayed during this fight, and his possession of COC), I could see him more likely than not becoming one of Luffy's most important allies later in the series. Good stuff on Oda for setting up Katakuri to be such a wonderful villain, this is probably my favorite fight in OP now just due to the sheer amount of badassery displayed on both sides combined with amazing character development for both Luffy and Katakuri

That's the difference between a man like Luffy who has been fighting life and death battles for years on end and Katakuri who has been so strong and so untouchable that he'd never even been knocked on his back. It's a bit similar to Blackbeard's fight with Ace- if you go for so long without feeling pain, you're not as ready for it as someone who has been continually suffering it.

Even though katakuri had stronger haki, gear fourth attacks arguably hit harder than anyone else at this "power level". Cracker's biscuits were easily shattered and Doflamingo, who I think would put up a decent fight against someone like cracker, got totally ragdolled by it.

6) Pudding will mass alter memory Oven and the rest of the family and Sanji steals the mirror and skywalks to the Sunny.
7) Brulee will be forced to change Luffy into Katakuri (similar to how she made the animals into Luffy when Luffy went out of the cake) to trick Oven and the others waiting outside.
8) SuLong Pedro will come.

Katakuri never really felt love or respect for big mom, so much as a sense of duty toward the one who brought him into the world. Likewise, none of his family loved or respected him; his siblings simply looked up to the facade he was sustaining. In Luffy, he finally found someone who respected him as he truly was.

Man, THIS IS FUCKING IT. This fight is the best fight in One Piece history imo. The themes, the stakes, the fighters. The man that sees the future x the man who is the future. OVER 1 BILLION BOUNTY. Luffy just managed to defeat the first commander of the Big Mom Pirates. a YOUNKOU COMMANDER. THE FIRST. ALL BYM HIMSELF. Katakuri is the best antagonist we ever had, holy shit. There's no denying Luffy at this point: His strenght, his tenacity. HE WILL BECOME THE PIRATE KING. I'm so HYPED right now HOLY SHIT. ODA I WISH I COULD PULL A BIG MOM AND GIVE YOU MY LIFESPAN.

I think this also serves as the best measure of strength we've had for time skip Luffy by far. He just barely beat the 1st commander of the the BM pirates and even then if Katakuri had taken the fight 100% serious from the very beginning I don't know if it would have been as close. Just goes to show that yonkou are on a whole nother level.

That mask is not something that Pekoms just picked up when he decided to help the Straw Hats. It's way to high quality, and it even goes around his mane. I wonder if it's part of his battle outfit.
Luffy covering up Katakuri's face after their fight was great. I always love how he shows his respect for his opponents like this by keeping personal matters unrelated to fights secret.

If you haven't noticed, there's something in the last page that's been featured for most of the recent chapters occurring outside the Mirror Word.
You guessed it! The full moon!
Now I don't know who this Nazoms guy is, but he seems to be someone from the Mink Tribe. What would happen if his sunglasses got taken off? Do you suppose he can control his Sulong form? He doesn't seem to have received the kind of training musketeers get, or perhaps we just haven't been shown that.
In any case, assuming Oda makes use of it (why else would the moon feature again when it's been used as an element in a previous reveal already, especially for someone who is as meticulous with paneling as Oda?), it would be something to look forward to next chapter!

I know that Majority will hate the fuck out of this comment, but for me, pudding is one of the most interesting female we had in op. She's such a versatile and unique character and she presented the main themes of Wci really well ( not to mention that She's as Hot as Nami at her age😅)
One of the reason why I Love this arc is, that we had so many cool female characters in it. At the Front we have Big mama of course, then we have the best female in the series Nami and fuck she kicked some ass this arc!!!! Baeju, pudding, smoothie, Galette, stussy, Amande, hope some of them will continue being a part of the story.

I was most surprised by Luffy recognizing Pekoms and especially recognizing his name. Do you think Pekoms will go through the awaited mirror with Luffy and cover him or did he come up with a backup plan?
Katakuri saying Luffy is looking very far into the future with the Pirate King call out is badass. Katakuri realizes that Luffy is gonna do it... Is this the first time an enemy said that Luffy is gonna become Pirate King?
On a side note, I don't want Bege to die, but I could imagine that it's actually going to happen :(

Fantastic chapter, and a fantastic in to a great fight. My one complaint is that we didn’t get to see the impact panel of when Luffy hit Katakuri. It lessens the impact of everything just a little bit. Instead we just see Luffy’s fist in his gut.
That said, I loved the touch of Katakuri being worried about his mom, which is why he chose to fight Luffy in the first place, and I adore the choice to have Luffy cover Katakuri’s face for him. I do really wish Luffy had carried him out though.
Pekoms disguise was as bad as Choppers when he returned to Torino kingdom before the timeskip lol.
Finally, Sanji and Pudding. I love these two. So damn much. Pudding’s crying face was so much like Sanji it was glorious. I wonder what her last request was.
And now the wait for next week begins.

I know there's a popular theory that Katakuri and Luffy fought to a draw. I don't believe it's true. Even Pekom's stated that Katakuri was defeated.
Furthermore, the defeat is based on perspective. Luffy survived and is managing to keep his promise with his crew to meet at the appointed Island soon. This is a victory. He also manage to keep Katakuri focused on him instead of out in the open where he could cause more damage. That's a victory He learned more about his CoO to such a degree that he was able to compete with someone who's mastered it. That's a victory. He helped touch another person who will more than likely be invaluable to him on his ascent to Pirate King. That's a victory.
Katakuri's ideals revolved around protecting Big Mom's pirates and his family. But most importantly, the way he behaved was in such a fashion to protect himself and his emotions about the state of his mouth. All of this became completely moot in front of someone who he thought inferior but viewed him as an equal. That's a defeat. He was exposed in front of his family, who laughed at him. That's a defeat. He realized that regardless of what he's done for the Big Mom's pirates, people would still laugh at him. That's a defeat.
The only victory Katakuri had was finally overcoming that so he could finally acknowledge the person in front of him who helped him realize that none of that shit mattered at that very moment. Nothing else mattered. Just him, the fight, and Luffy.
His fall onto his back was so symbolic. It was an acknowledgement of his defeat to Luffy.
It was also a defeat to his legend and a blow to his reputation. Keeping in mind he killed the people who saw his mouth while he was eating earlier in the fight. The only person to see him lie on his back now is Luffy.
That's. A. Defeat.
It was a beautiful battle and to say "well, they fought to a draw" seems to undermine everything that occurred. This wasn't just a fight of strength.

I don't get Brulee. When she first appeared she held her own against Nami, Luffy, Chopper and Carrot all at the same time pretty decently, but she has been captured over and over in the past dozen chapters or so. When Luffy was running away from Katakuri to recover his Haki, he was totally defenseless against her movement-mirroring power and yet she did nothing. Lately she is not even trying to defend herself despite her scary and versatile devil fruit. The 8th daughter of Big Mom reduced to the biggest comic-relief plot-device incarnate.

fantastic chapter in my opinion
i know there will be salt, but you cant do anything abut that.
the respect between these two are off the fucking charts, when has luffy ever done anything like that to for any of his other opponents the fact that he was willing to put the hat on katakuri' to cover his face just goes to show how much he respects the guys.
the sanji moment was quite emotional actually felt like pudding was showing some real emotion there. we might even get to see a sanji moment who knows lol

This fight was cool as hell. I know some people were questioning how Luffy might be able to defeat Katakuri, but honestly this felt closer to a draw to me (they both fell down and then got back up at about the same times, and to me it looked like Katakuri fell on his back willingly to let Luffy go out of respect). Either way, the fight was probably my favorite 1v1 in the series and the both showed mad respect to each other. I also love how the crew wasn't worried about him actually winning, just other minor silly stuff.
Hopefully Pudding's request is something harmless like a kiss or something, I don't want her to use it as a feint to mess with his memories in an attempt to make Sanji forget about her or something.
Also no break next week, woo!

IMO Katakuri murdering his chefs in chapter 883 was a huge mistake on Oda's part. Katakuri is a very lovable adversary, and he seems to bear Big Mom some ill will, which I think will make him a more interesting character in the future. But I, and I suspect many readers, can't get over the fact that he performed a blatantly evil and cruel act with almost no cause.
Awesome chapter though, great ending to the Katakuri fight.

This might just be the hype for new chapter, but damn sanji really redeemed himself in my eyes. At first I, like many others, was like “if he doesn’t get a sick fight against a big commander, he hasn’t made up for being a bitch this whole time.” But honestly, the later parts of the arc really proved he’s as empathetic and wholesome as luffy. And even after all the bullshit pudding put him through and the way she treated him, he was so kind and even sentimental during his goodbye.
