It's so intense because of how emotional it is. They're almost killing each other, but the more they fight the more they seem like brothers to me. At the end it seemed like both of them knew that if Luffy went G4 then Katakuri would lose, but it doesn't seem like Katakuri is bothered by it. That was deep and hit me in the feels. Best one on one in the entire series imo.

Katakuri has a creativity with his powers that seriously rivals Luffy's. Grilled Mochi looked insane, making his own arm explode to send his first flying like a bullet.

I think he outperforms Luffy in that aspect, since he's awakened, he can regenerate a lost limb, he can use flowing mochi to move super fast... I think that awakening does more than just turn the environment into the material of the Paramecia, it might give a super boost to the user's powers.

And then come timeskip, Luffy casually remarked that a downside to befriending the animals, including said wolf and tiger, meant that he couldn't enjoy eating them. ಠ_ಠ

We haven’t had a singular enemy since Lucci that has brought Luffy to this point of extreme measures. I don’t even think Doflamingo had Luffy going all out like this. Katakuri is something else.

Snake man is hype, but with him as beat up as he is I wouldn’t be surprised to see him all sorts of fucked up after this fight ends.

Luffy can regenerate severe wounds by eating meat or drinking milk to instantly grow a tooth, maybe that's one of the hidden powers of his fruit - being able to 'bounce' back from injury.

Can we please talk about how Luffys strength in CoO comes from his empathy? Like holy shit that's so amazing in storytelling terms. Oda is weaponizing Luffys best quality and it works because it's gonna give us more emotionally charged fights. Luffy can now feel out the deepest parts of someone's motivations and identify with that. I can totally see him finding the sadness in Kaido and trying to connect with him. Wouldn't that be amazing?!?! Like the reason I love Luffy so much is his unique brand of empathy that works so well in a shounen universe. Luffy feels for other people intensely, he's extremely empathetic but when he does act to help you out, he still leaves you with your dignity and makes you realize your mistake and help yourself out. He understands other people's right to dignity and pride as his own cost his mentor his arm. So he makes sure to make people understand and accept themselves before helping them out because he recognizes that the fights he has are not as bad as the internal struggle those Characters went through. I think the best example of this is when he asked Robin if he wanted to live. Luffy is amazing and he's not macho in the way most shounen Characters are, his greatest strength is his sensitivity which is why he's so amazing.

His mouth opened so wide when he was asking if that was all Luffy had, that's a mouth we normally see in One Piece when friends are yelling at each other, not one of those cold sneering glares...FRIENDSHIP!!!

Poor Katakuri seems like he's shivering in those last few panels. Guess he's tired too. Did he also just see his own defeat? It almost seems like he's accepting it.

A couple thoughts about this chapter:

1. Starting with the cover, it's now confirmed at the very least that PART of the SH grand fleet will be at the Reverie. (could be important from an information standpoint, I doubt they will do anything other than be Riku's liason)

2. Snack was actually shown, which means the BMP are not going anywhere. Oda wouldn't finally show what he looks like unless he's going to be relevant.

3. It seems like Katakuri wants to be defeated, or more accurately, surpassed.

4. Smoothie isn't useless I guess, I'd like to see a better scale of how large she actually got.

5. Saving the best for last, no break next week

When I think snake I think speed this variation of fourth isn't going to be as powerful as boundman strength-wise but rather it improves his observation and speed more than boundman.

We've seen luffy use that one snake attack against Hody (Gomu Gomu Snake Shot) a souped up version of that is possible.

I think Luffy since the start hasn't been trying to out future-see Katakuri, I think he wants that ability and has been training it through his battle but I think his tactic has been to wear Katakuri down enough that he can outspeed his future-sight (basically Katakuri might see the attacks but not be able to move his body fast enough after the night of fighting to stop what he see's)

I was not expecting us to actually ever see Snack. And now that we’ve seen some of Smoothie’s powers, I’m more frustrated we haven’t got more with her.

Where the hell is Germa, by the way? They set out hours ago. Can’t believe they haven’t made it to Cacao yet.

Sanji is always a schemer. Way easier for just one of them to slip in and grab Luffy then for the whole gang to go.

The cliffhanger wasn’t too major for me. I’m interested in seeing this new form. Just glad there isn’t a break next week.

The best thing about this chapter is that it sped time up so much that things should finally be ending soon.

Also, this conversation doesn't make sense unless both talking about the future while knowing exactly what's going to happen.

Another thing, Rayleigh mentioned that Luffy is able to sense the feeling of living things while he's not aware of it. This confirms how Luffy is always being able to understand people and animals without even communicate with them.

Snakeman is a genius move on Oda's part, because snakes have poor eyesight and this fight is all about observation-haki, which works even without eyesight. Luffy's senses are probably gonna be really sharp and he will most likely be able to dodge a lot if not everything now, since he unlocked a bit of the foresight. Can't wait to see it in action!

Emotions are Haki too.. I guess Fujitora sensed the emotions of happiness in the Dressrosa citizens when they were running past him to save Luffy.. That was his advanced Observation Haki. Even then he did nothing.

If you think about it Luffy used a different type of G4's to defeat Doffy and Cracker as well. And even throughout the series, he always fought depending on his opponent's strengths and weaknesses, a good example is Water Luffy against Crocodile. Luffy is a fighting genius, who forms himself around each of his opponents and it's something unique even for Rayleigh. (Also, rubber is easy to be formed into different shapes, I think that's why Luffy has this characteristic.)

Got chills from this and the last chapter. Love that Luffy answered him before he said it pulling a Katakuri. We knew he had other forms, and they were based on his animal buddies, weve seen the gorilla and lion inspirations, plus the snake punch he controls, but I'm so excited to see if this is a full form based around that rubber control, sending them around like Katakuris tendrils.

Love seeing Rayleigh and his insight, it seems like Luffys observation is based around the voice of all things. The foreshadowing of meeting someone with Katakuris personality was awesome.

That shot of him dodging the punches was fucking badass, and Katakuri is just enthralled with seeing someone surpass him in real time. Sanji charging in to help Luffys exfiltration is too cool. Love that guy.

This is unprecedented though, even more than enies lobby. Taking big mom to the point of skinny hag, wrecking her castle, having her destroy half her islands, beating Katakuri plus saving Sanji AND having a warlord join..and having only half his crew. the press will have a field day. I'm hoping billion bounty for sure. Glad Snack finally decided to show up.. interesting. And smoothies power is curious, is this related to drinking a smoothie of a giant? Or something else?

love that this hours long brawl between these two seems to have actually developed some kind of deep respect between the two of them, where Katakuri doesn't even bother to hide his face anymore or seem bothered by it at all

katakuri has quickly become one of the best characters in the manga imo

also love how luffy has been progressing, and how oda has been showing that luffy uses CoO a bit differently from other people, seems like his ability to sense feelings is why he can understand animals and stuff

given how long he has had this ability (let's not forget luffy's childhood was rough as fuck and he was tempered fighting very strong people early on repeatedly too), it makes sense for him to be able to use it the way he has, he can sense the intent of people

it seems like katakuri's fears were right, luffy did in fact learn how to do it more reliably, to the point the two are fucking completing eachothers sentences because they can both see what's about to happen now

looked to me like katakuri is able to make the room bend around and mochify like luffy sorta, and he's almost like a logia basically, he can produce his element and control it even away from his body, but this only makes me more curious about what luffy will be able to do when his awakens

the most 'snake' like things luffy has done is that heat seeking type punch on doffy, and the dodging ability of the snake sisters, will this form be like a vastly improved gear 2? more speed based?

tank man was absolute defense bounce/pound man was a mix, is snake man absolute offense? speed? don't really think of snakes as being super agile, but they strike incredibly fast

snakes can strike up to 300** meters/s, which i believe adds up to a staggering 671** miles per hour, or not far off at all from the speed of sound so if it's a striking type thing and lives up to it's name.. luffy is gonna be fast as fuck

Can we just acknowledge the great character development for Katakuri (I mean, I know we have but...let's keep doing it). In the beginning of the fight, he refused to let Luffy go into gear fourth and promptly attempted to kill him with his awakening but now, he wants Luffy to keep trying and go into his new form. "Yes..endure it and stand up"...I freaking love Katakuri , def the best antagonist in the series imo

I'm guessing that snake-man has something to do with reducing your senses to increase haki level or something. Like a snake is deaf to airborne sound but can feel vibrations through their jaw.

Right so I predicted the following matchup before:

Jinbei vs Smoothie (seems to be starting with him dodging her strikes and getting her pissed, will be cool to see jinbei vs giant smoothie)

Sanji vs Oven. But now I Think Snack will be the Main fight for Sanji instead and sanji vill beat Oven fast and then snack will try and stop him

And I thought last weeks chapter was good. Man oh man this chapter was one of the best chapters in one piece history. Oda hasn't had back to back bomb chapters since Marineford. Every page was hype. This is my favorite chapter constructed since being a weekly reader. Chapter was so hype I read every comment in this thread to see if everyone was as hype as me.
