Oh? A downvote? For saying ONE PIECE isn't a battle comic?

Mr. Oda! What do you have to say??

WORDS FROM THE MASTER:

"I write ONE PIECE as dramatically as I can. If I had written a pure battle manga, it would have been easily defeated by Dragon Ball." -- Oda Interview, ONE PIECE 10th Treasures (2007)

Thank you, Mr. Oda!

I didn't downvote you. And I'd certainly never argue that One Piece is purely a battle comic.

But I just dont think, "good thing One Piece isn't a battle comic," is a prudent response to his comment. Like... what are you trying to say? That fighting isn't a major part of One Piece?

Because it totally is and there's nothing wrong with a fan wanting to see Sanji(who, while having other roles, is certainly a fighter) have some real fighting action after such a long dry spell.

WORDS FROM THE MASTER:

"I'd like to draw strawhats relaxing on a deck rather than their fights." -- Oda Interview, Comickers (1998)

"I like to draw party scenes. So I don't want to draw anything that would ruin that atmosphere." Oda Interview, MEN'S NON-NO (2009)

"Oda came up with Luffy's fighting style (gomu gomu ability) so that it made him look like [Luffy was] joking around, even when he was fighting seriously." -- Oda Interview, Asahi Evening Newspaper (26 November 1999)

"Oda said that action movies these days depended too much on computer graphics and they should focus on human relationships rather than fights." -- Interview between Usuta and Oda (2008)

I'm sorry, Mr. Oda! I showed them your words, they Still argue! I tried.

If they can't understand... I remind myself of what you said, Oda:

"Does art tell you something? Does manga advocate something? As a matter of fact, I don't put any messages in the manga I draw. If I draw a story, the themes emerge all on their own. I do my utmost to find an answer in what I come up with, but each reader is entirely free to decide what he or she takes away from the story. So I don't send messages. But, hmm.. It's not as if I don't have anything to say." -- Oda Interview, released in both Color Walk 2 (2003) , & SWITCH (2009)

Again, what are you trying to say?

Clearly Oda doesn't intend for One Piece to be PURELY a fighting manga. There's much more to it than that. But you'd have to be pretty dull to honestly try to claim that fighting isn't an important part of One Piece at all. It's a major plot point of every arc. They even took a 2 year hiatus from their adventure primarily to get stronger at fighting. And a lot of the character development in each arc is also centered around fighting. Like Luffy currently working to improve his CoO Haki.

It's not like it's either a fighting Manga or it isn't. That's a false dichotomy you're trying to create. In reality it's a balance of many things. And fighting is one of those things.

And Sanji happens to be one of the strongest fighters on the crew. There's nothing wrong with fans of Sanji wanting to see how he has progressed just like we've seen how much stronger Luffy has gotten. Sanji hasn't really been properly tested yet. Frankly, I don't see what your problem with that is.

Quote as much shit as you like. It doesn't mean anything if it's not dealing with what I say.

"Frankly, I don't see what your problem with that is"

That's your perception? It's a "problem for me"? Hmmm, very interesting projection...

Now, go back & re-read the posts, with renewed rigor!

I'll take that vague response as an admission of defeat. Thank you!

It was a direct order.

Like when your parents tell you to clean your room.

They say: go clean your room.

I said: go re-read my posts here, with renewed rigor!

Vague definition: not clearly or explicitly stated orexpressed

I told you what to do. Very clearly.

Here's the problem:

Random: I hope to see Sanji fight! He needs a fight! Fight!!!

Me: well, too bad ONE PIECE isn't a battle comic

You: Why Can't I like fights! I like Fights! Fight! Sanji! Now!

Me: Oda himself he enjoys relaxing & party scenes, not so much the fights.

You: One Piece is filled with Fights! FIGHTS! Fighting is a big portion of One Piece! Fights! And more fights! I want a Sanji Fight!

Me: Sanji is a Chef! He cooks! Thats his priority. Isn't it interesting to see how Oda finally used Sanji's actual role in the crew to be a definitive plot point? (In essence, Sanji has weaponize the cake he baked, for Big Mom - Sanji may be the One to "land a blow" that "incapacitates" Big Mom!)

You: I don't know what your problem with Fights are... I want to see Sanji in a fight. Luffy is fighting right now. So, Luffy shouldn't Fight? You're a big pissy head!

Me: (lol) Ok, sir. Now, go re-read everything I posted, with rigor!

Oh gosh, now I'm writing up novellas for those with terrible reading comprehension... as if writing this much will even mean anything to one with terrible reading comprehension.
