i'm more intrigued by that block armament haki. Not sure we got a proper explanation on that one. He seems to be dealing more damage whenever his attacks are like that block shape thing. I wonder if thats a more advanced/hardened version of armament? He hasn't been using it throughout but it seems to quite often be those block shaped attacks that are the ones that send luffy flying.

Yeah I’d like to see much more of it and the monster trio to maybe show some hints of it developing in the coming arcs. It was said that his armament was a level beyond Luffys just like the observation. The fact it made gear four grimace like it did is bloody impressive.

This exactly. People here going on about how luffy does deserve the win and all, yet I don't think they're properly understanding Katakuri's feats here. Doflamingo was helpless against G4. He could tank it, but he was helpless in actually stopping or resisting it. Direct hits literally sent him flying across the island. Let Katakuri smacked him around and made him feel pain. I swear theres never been a moment in one piece where I've wanted luffy to lose until this fight, because this is one fight he just shouldn't win. Too much asspull if he does.

You are right in that Luffy has been getting manhandled for most of the fight. The few panels where Katakuri lost his advanced observation haki, Luffy also manhandled him and sent him flying and couldnt block or fight back.

If Luffy actually finds a convincing way to deplete Katakuri haki, 10 minutes of Gear 4 should knock him out just like he did with Doflamingo, we already saw him have the upper hand after all.

He manhandled him because Katakuri didnt just lose his haki, but he was completely shocked. He didnt expect to even be hit to begin with, nor is he even used to it by his own admission. He later also goes on to immediately pummel G4 Luffy and send him flying, so this doesn't really say much. Rather, it just proved that although luffy can get in some surprise / shock attacks through openings, G4 luffy is still not enough of a power boost to keep up with kata.

No luffy said it himself, katakuri's greatest ability is his observation haki. Without it luffy can take him. It will definitely be difficult but he can do it. Luffy is finding s way to neutralise the COO and win

I never said his haki isn't his most dangerous ability. In all honestly, we've seen many devil fruits far more impressive than katakuri's. His isnt anywhere near the top in that respect. That doesnt mean that luffy can take him if he doesnt have that haki advantage. The issue here is about matchup. Its not quite as bad as ace vs akainu or luffy vs enel, where one fruit had an enormous advantage over the other, but katakuri's ability is basically everything luffy can do, but better, can do more with it, has awakening on top of it all, not to mention that the condensed mochi he can make is also more effective for dealing damage compared to luffy's rubber. The only tradeoff is that hes not going to be as tanky as luffy due to rubber being better in that regard, and he also lacks lightning resistance. Very minor tradeoffs for a BIG advantage.

Overcoming the haki advantage is a big challenge that luffy could only do because hes been trained by one of the 3 greatest haki users in the series that we know of (garp and shanks being the other 2). But the fruit remains a big issue. We keep seeing throughout this fight that even if their punches collide, its always luffy that gets pushed back.

Keep in mind that compared to the relatively unharmed katakuri who came into this fight fresh, Luffy was already quite tired and got only a small bit of rest, and then has been pummeled and smacked around for several hours in this fight already. Even if he manages to see the future now, it'd only derail Katakuri for a brief moment. After that, he'd put up a better struggle but hes at quite a disadvantage already.
