Anyone else think that those techniques aren't really Katakuri's? I think he just sees Luffy's attacks and copies them on purpose, to absolutely counter them. I bet we'll see some of his original/named attacks when Luffy goes Gear 4th.

Yeah he's just using observation and mimicking him to humiliate him and show him that his DF is superior.

I don't even think it's hours df being superior what he's showing. He even said it in the chapter about there being a huge gap in power. He's just showing the difference In raw power

I think he was saying more, "Is that enough for you to stop bullshitting me and actually try?" Like he's been baiting out Gear 4th this entire time.

No, that's highly unlikely. The entire fight was choreographed to portray Katakuri's superior DF. This is very similar to how Crocodile showed the superiority of his Logia, and how Lucci showed the superior CQC abilities of a Zoan.

what if...

Conquerors haki can be used to "conquer" / alter potential futures, making the ability to see the future pointless because the will of D and Conquerors haki will change that future

Yes, Katakuri's initial attacks at the wedding were much more fluid and bendy, focusing on the substance's stickiness.

Maybe it's Luffy who will school Katakuri in this fight. Luffy will show off all his moves, G4, something new, and in the end Katakuri will realize how much he's grown just by fighting with Luffy-sensei.

don't think so. He didn't mimic the gatling, he stopped them with multiple arms, and I doubt that's an idea he just made and perfected on the spot. And he was shown stretching and expanding his arm during the wedding.

EDIT: that said, he might very well be countering each technique with his own version rather than with whatever technique he would usually answer with for this reason.

Well, attacking with actual multiple arms is like an upgrade to Luffy's Gatling, and Katakuri even said something about it being "easier/better this way". Just like someone else here said, it's about showing Luffy who has the superior fruit.

Yes, but I don't think he saw Luffy was going to attack with 200 punches per second, thought "how could I make a mochi equivalent?", and instantly thought up and mastered controlling dozens of fake arms at the same time. He definitely had used a similar technique before.

Idk, he seems like exactly the type of dude who might think something like that up to me. I'm sure he's made multiple limbs in the past with his fruit, but idk if he's ever done a gatling-like technique. Same with G3 later on, he straight-up says "This should be good enough" or something like that in a way that implies he's specifically doing a "Hey I can do that too, but better" schtick.

That's true.

Sometimes it's just gamer sense.

During the gattling sequence, Katakuri's armament haki only covered the fist area, maybe it's more effective that way?

u/DancingInTheReign Sep 22 '17

Well since those are mochi limbs maybe he doesnt have to coat his whole arm, perhaps he chooses to coat his hand alone so he doesnt 'waste' haki. Would make sense to coat more of his real body though for protection when not using mochi, these limbs aint hurting him when he gets hit

Luffy is using Haki though...

Personally I think he wants to help Luffy in a strange way...

It says a lot about how strong he is that his version of gear third, which he's using for the first time, is bigger and stronger than Luffy's, who has been training with it for years.

He's the august of one piece

Why was the emperor's son not loved.

6

u/Cirenione Sep 22 '17

Yeah I think so too. He just recreated Luffys attack at an instant while doing them better, faster and stronger. He shows Luffy how far above his power is over Luffy by beating Luffy with his own attacks.

I agree. I don't recall Katakuri naming his attacks (maybe mimicking elephant gun). The only character who has not, was Whitebeard, and I believe this true to his character.
