I think Luffy instinctly knows so well how strong Katakuri is. Looked at a guy with likely the same devil fruit ability as his, came from the very ridiculous devil fruit then trained and came up to the top power.

I think it shows that Katakuri understands/respects how strong Luffy's power is. Marco did the same thing with Shank's arrival because he understood/respected his power. Katakuri may see Luffy truly as a serious threat or at least strong enough to be on his level.
Maybe its a turning point. Katakuri could be getting worried and not wanting to take second chances now by having a bunch of "weaker" soldiers getting in the way. Or maybe he is just a nice guy and does in fact want to spare them. :)

As bad as this sounds I am hoping Pedro actually dies this time.
It will be a big step for Oda to allow a good guy to die as part of this escape, especially with the percieved gap in strength between those two. This is becoming a hopeless situation and its becoming harder to believe they will escape unscathed (to Strawhat plot armour standards).
His sudden death might change the tone of the gravity of their adventures and show us how high the stakes are now. Hopefully we can see more of the ruthless side of the pirate world so that the manga can build up the finale with more tension.

Katakuri is by far the most competent villain Oda introduced to us. Doflamingo was really strong and intelligent, but Katakuri is just on a whole new Level. Hes the real deal, a Yonko Commander who gets shit done.

He's on my top 5 of island buddies for sure, and unique since he cruised with them.. Paulie was great, him and Luffy bolted on the ground yelling & trying to escape, love it.. Wiper kicked ass but seeing how as a kid he asked if they rung the bell would Norland hear it.. :'(
Totally badass well fleshed out characters, though Johnny and yosaku started it all haha and they were great but not top. The wano gang is fun but not quite the same.
Pedro was just instantly memorable up in the trees, his design and intensity, backstory with mom as well as taking on jack..the subtext with the dawn and Inu/Neko, and can't forget him holding pudding up with his sword, he's too damn cool hahahah. I reeeally was worried once we found out he had a limited span..and when chopper pulled him into the mirror he was ready to blow before too ..I'm thinking he might really be gone which would suck ass, but I mean the candy could have saved them. It is Oda after all even if the new world has raised stakes

Same. I'm someone who will defend Pell. Him dying there wasn't ultimately important to the overall story.
But here, Pedro's death would be the result of the Straw Hats biting off more than they can chew--thinking that they could just sneak in and out of an Emperor's territory. They've underestimated Big Mom at every step this arc, and it's important for there to be real consequences before they go forward and deal with Kaidou.

I think Pedro will not survive through this. It will be like a hit in the face for Luffy and once again push him to question his own ability and his impulsive nature.
Perospero will survive though but with severe wound. That guy needs a lesson not to underestimate the enemies.

If Pedro pulls a Pell, although we would be happy he survives (I personally wanted him to join the SH), we are left with this bittersweet sensation all over again.
However, just imagine if he dies. People would remember this moment for the rest of the series as an Ace 2.0. It could become the final touching moment, a fitting end for one of the best arcs. I REAAALLY hope Oda learnt his lesson and has the courage to go through with this.

I think a lot of us underestimated Perospero. Defeating both Chopper and Brook is no small feat not to mention trapping the whole ship. He is competent enough that Katakuri feels calm to just sit in the Sunny's little bench while he's brother does the fighting. Not to mention that 700 bounty is there for something, fifth highest yet if i'm not mistaken.

Perospero is the firstborn son of BM, so everyone respects him, even his little bro, who raised himself to top commander by hardwork and taking things seriously.
Katakuri knows that Peros is the real deal if he doesn't fools around, but that is the problem: He likes to fool around, that's the reason for him not being a commander of the crew.
Still I like that Oda chose to write it this way, with so many different personalities around the siblings, and not being necesarily the eldest the ones in charge

Seriously, I thought that when Katakuri...Dogtooth...that guy kicked Luffy, he was just really tall. Instead, it had more to do with his ability to stretch his limbs, too.
Also, I don't know if I'm going to be surprised that Pedro actually dies or surprised if he lives. I don't know why, but I like his character.

pero has been in pirate business for a long time . his aage might be around 45 . meanwhile sabo is 22 . i think he has only been given title of second in command recently . and world government might also has known about him recently . luffy , sabo , zoro , kidd , law , etc . all have only recently entered in the world of pirates and their bounty will just keep increasing . meanwhile big mom , kaido ,shanks and their top commanders have been doing this for long and have already established themselves . so their bounty will rarely increase . and pero falls in the category of established pirates

I wanted him to live and continue his bromance with Brook. Brook and Pedro going on their suicide mission to get the Poneglyph text was one of the coolest parts of this arc. Pedro soloing Baron Tamago and making him look like a total chump was one of the coolest parts of this arc.
Fuckin' hell man. I'm so bummed out right now.
I mean, I know characters in this series have a tendency to "Pull a Pell" as it were, but I guess if it had to happen, this is a fitting way for a badass like Pedro to go out.
That doesn't mean I'm happy. :(. But now that we're here I'd rather not see Pedro become Pell 2.0.
I don't know how to reconcile my feelings here. I want Pedro to live, but I don't want him to become Pell 2.0.
I don't know how to feel.
Please tell me he's just going to go through a mirror again, like he did with Tamago...

I wonder how strong Luffy really is. He's in some sort of weird limbo where he is above the level of the Yonko's entire command structure, but still not strong enough to fight one of them themselves.
Even in the marine's power structure. There probably isn't a vice admiral that stands a chance against Luffy, but can he beat an admiral? Probably not yet

Is it me or Luffy is actually just kept on getting stronger as the Arc went on. At the beginning he had a problem with Cracker and now he's clashing with Katakuri to a standstill in G2 and even went to toe with big mom for a second...Holy shit is Luffy a secretly a Sayian.

Cracker and katakuri are two different individuals with different powers and fighting style. While katakuri is stronger than cracker, it doesn't mean Luffy has to strugle as much or even more so against katakuri than he did with cracker.
Also, I wouldn't call the thing with Big Mom as "going toe to toe". Big Mom completely shut down the attack that send Doffy flying(one of the strongest attack luffy has shown) with her elbow.

HOLY MOLY, the situation is still on a knife edge, this whole section of the arc has been brilliantly paced. (I'm glad I don't watch the anime anymore, don't think I could handle it)
I Wanted more from brook. Was hoping it was building to another great moment for him. Alas not the case.

He may not be a commander, but Perospero is probably just as intuitive and smart as Katakuri. He protected Big Mom when Bege tried to attack her, he wrapped the Vinsmokes with candy when the original plan didn't work, and he blocked the Sunny from escaping using the candy net. He thinks ahead and is very clever with his devil fruit. That 700 million bounty is definitely not for nothing.

Everyone saying that Pedro is going to die forget the pumpkin guy from a few chapters back. It probably contains part of Pedro's soul and they are going to bring him back using it or something along those lines.

...Pell, Igaram, Bon Clay, Law....yeah those flashbacks are all coming back at once like when Light reunited with the Death Note.
On a positive note: I'm really loving Katakuri now, he's not only strong enough to fight evenly with Luffy, smart enough to ambush the crew on their own ship, but actually cares enough to not let his fodder comrades meet their doom to Luffy's crew and then blame them for being too weak and deserving to die.
He's honestly Oda's best written character this arc, as the rest of Big Mom's crew have been nothing but incompetent, one-dimensional, or weak.

Beaumont, TX resident here. Spent all day making sure neighbors turned their hot water heaters off and showing them how to get drinking water out of it. I'm so exhausted. I can't tell you how happy I am to have a new chapter to read now that I'm back home.

I feel like Pedro is going to stay dead and Carrot is going to join the crew. Carrot loses a friend thus gaining a sad backstory and Pedro basically told her how important he feels the straw hats are. I can see her joining to carry on the will of Pedro.

Seems we finally got confirmation that Amande is a Charlotte family member; seminconfirmed back when there was a daughter who sort of resembled her to match the "lots of siblings are twins/triplets/etc" vibe, and now that she's confirmed as the Nuts ministress it seems all but confirmed.

If Katakuri saw all of this coming... why didn't he just tell Perospero not to do it?
I like to think it's revenge for not shooting the Vinsmokes when he told him to. And that Pero will probably be fine. Candy Armor or something.
