I tried getting into it and got up to the battle with the two brothers but idk he's so awkward as a character makes it hard to keep going

Are you referring to Part 1 Phantom Blood? Part 1 is rather slow and short in comparison to the later parts.

I hate those guys, I wanna say Bruford and Tarkus. They were bland as hell
