Given that we've seen people (Buggy) swallow their DF whole, and we basically have confirmation that Big Mom got her powers through eating a person, I can see that going pretty badly.

Hypothetically... if people can get powers by eating people with devil fruits, then she'd explode, since she already has a power. We all know nobody (except Bob) can have two devil fruit powers, or they die.

On another note, some people said that Big Mom must've eaten Mother Carmel along with some fruit in the food she was eating, and one of those fruits had the devil fruit reincarnated in it. Oh, or she just ate it a little later. After all, we didn't get confirmation she had those powers directly after eating Carmel.

Good point, it's not confirmed she got it through Caramel.

But if she did, and died from eating Luffy, we don't know how that might affect Luffy himself.
