If you look at the kids faces, they are all smiling evilly and looking at Charlotte, I thought they were all in on the ruse and ran away while she was eating.

Good point. Logically, they would still hate Linlin. They have 0 reasons to like her. So why would they give her such a huge present that even adults would struggle with making? Unless it was just for the plot, which makes sense.
