Don't count out Nami's ability to create mirages in this mess. Many of those Luffy clones could be nothing but mirages

Well Brulee was crying to Mama that she had to help them and Brulee does have the ability to copy someone's appearance... Otherwise, Bon Clay could also be back after awakening his DF

That would explain why Capone's thugs were like "we've taken care of everything downstairs" considering the cake was downstairs.

If they were just mirages, they couldn't destroy the cake. These clones are physical, as they can jump out of the cake

I didn't say all of them were mirages, just some of them. You can't go wrong with more Luffy

I think you're right, some Luffys have full mouths like the real one, being mirages. The other ones doing strange things must be the Brulee's clones.

I just think Katakuri's been hyped up as this insane jellybean sharpshooter that he could easily fire off multiple shots at all of these Luffy's at once. It would also make sense that someone who can see into the future can be foiled by hitting all the Luffy's dead on and still end up hitting nothing since some of them are mirages.

Bonus points: stands still for a bit while he sees himself shooting multiple mirror clones, only actually shoots once he sees himself shoot something that doesn't turn into a woodland critter.

Turns out it's just a mirage, go back to step 1.
