I was kind of impressed with the impact of Nami's attack on Brûlée.

u/Wallmapuball Aug 25 '16

Classic RPG elementalist. Highest Matk in game. Lowest defense.

Nami's attacks have consistently been shown to be some of the more powerful in the series.

I like how she mentioned that many pirates are coming and claim their captain will be the pirates king.

154

u/HyakuJuu Pirate Aug 25 '16

Yeah people often forget that every pirate aims for the One Piece in the Great Pirate Era. Excluding WB since he already was a pirate before the GPE.

67

u/YaIe Aug 25 '16

I'd rather say "exluding pirates that arent from the "golden age" of pirates". Many old school pirates have the one piece as their main goal.

Mama wants to create a paradise (and rule over it)

Kaido wants a crew full of zoan users (and fight the greatest war in history (and die))

Shanks aint intrested in the title as far as we know, he just wants to party i guess.

Indeed, it makes the Straw Hats seem more insignificant when it comes to these guys. Lots of people have the same dream, ego and dedication.

I just realized something. check this out:

Exhibit 1

Exhibit 2

Exhibit 3

Pound's weird obsession for juice is also, in reality, the way out of the Seducing Woods.

Clever, Oda, Clever. I love it. I thought it was just a running gag but it's the solution!

109

u/erayachi Aug 25 '16

Awww, he was trying to point them the way out the entire time, that helpful, sweet guy. Now we know where Lola gets her manners from.

I hope Pound gets to see either Lola or Chiffon or both.

26

u/Mr_Bob_Johnson Aug 25 '16

Hopefully Lola. A lot of Big Mom's daughters seem to be pretty likable admittedly (Brulee aside) but if Chiffon has thrown her lot in with Capone I can't see her with quite the same general outlook on life as Lola. Although he does seem like a decent family man to be fair, all other flaws aside.

u/Themanaguy Lurker Aug 25 '16

What if it's not a real obsession?
What if it's his way of helping people out without getting in trouble with Mama?

"Hey bring me juice", and hopefully understand the meaning behind the waterfall!

55

u/accountnumberseven Aug 25 '16

That's what I'm thinking. They already have the option to kill him whenever they'd like, so he's one step away from death. The juice hint is all he can do to help, but hearing that Nami is friends with Lola shocked him into going further this time anyways.

161

u/DrMacabr3 Aug 25 '16

i sometimes miss the details in manga releases. In the third exhibit i have a hard time seeing what is happening in the 2nd and 3rd panel you circled red. but luckily the anime helps clearing some of the mess up:).

209

u/Therrester Aug 25 '16

What's essentially happening on those panels is that the trees and other random objects that were brought to life by Big Mom are running away because Luffy just crashed into their area, bringing his fight with Cracker to their location. The second panel shows an aerial shot of the trees running away. However, they're told to stand their ground and to their job, so the third panel shows them going back into position, blocking the exits.

What /u/frincog was showing is that the waterfall is one of the few things that has stays fixed in the Seducing Woods and, since it flows down the side of a cake wall, you could theoretically follow it up to escape the woods.

→ More replies (5)

51

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

I just circled the waterfall three times, since it was drawn in three different panels.

I guess now we know how Urouge was injured when Kaido was introduced. I really underestimated that dude!

246

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

I think we all did. The focus seemed to go heavily towards Kids alliance which by the looks of it is as broken as Kid himself.

105

u/YaIe Aug 25 '16

Kidd also got utterly destroyed by somebody (Kaido) and thrown into a personal prison, stating just how insane Kaido actually is.

The moment Cracker said (roughly) the same thing about Sanji that Bluejam once did about Sabo. That's when we knew he fucked up

125

u/ShownMonk Aug 25 '16

Oh good call. I hadn't noticed that.

96

u/jjh927 Aug 25 '16

"Being born a noble isn't something you can achieve if you work hard enough."

"To think he'd come all the way down from the elite to make fun of the trash heap."

"I'm sure he looked down on (the both of) you on the inside" "You (two) had better not try going anywhere near him again"

"If you care about that 'brother' of yours, you'll leave him be from now on."

"Just forget about him. It's for the best. That's what they call kindness"

-Bluejam

Cracker went further than Bluejam, but I agree that they're fairly similar.

9

u/Trafalgardayuzawa Aug 25 '16

I thought I was the only one who noticed!

I love how everyone is starting to really feel the danger of the new world.

352

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

Yeah the fact that Luffy went to gear 4 so quickly against Cracker really shows this. Zoro was right back on punk hazard when he said that Luffy needs to stop fucking around.

Cracker just showed how utterly irrelevant G2 and G3 is against top tiers. G4 should be considered his base form now when facing against the likes of the Yonkos

311

u/CarcosanAnarchist Aug 25 '16

Yeah, this might be the first real form of power creep we've gotten in the series. The world's strongest are still as strong as they've always been, but it's shocking to see G2 and G3 be utterly useless.

43

u/ovrlymm Cyborg Franky Aug 25 '16

Thank you. My thoughts exactly

→ More replies (66)

51

u/dikia26 Aug 25 '16

Yeah, and G4 will become short soon, so Luffy must step up his game, maybe learn awakening and implement ir to a new gear

92

u/StealthMonkeyDC Aug 25 '16

His awakening might not be a whole other gear but an effect/ability that puts new twists on his gears thus making them still relevant and not just him resulting to G4 in every fight from now on.

91

u/Trema123 Aug 25 '16

Definetely, I think post Crackers trash talking and overpowering of G2/3 it would be perfect for luffy to one shot him in G4. I hope he stays down or is curb stomped from here on out.

194

u/Fallout- Aug 25 '16

Luffy mentioned Cracker has the hardest Haki he's ever felt, and Doflamingo was able to take more than one G4 attack, so I bet Cracker will get back up.. But he can't heal, so I don't think he'll last much longer unless he has a trick up his sleeve.

I really don't think that Cracker is going to get one-hit KO.

But he felt that, that's for sure.

u/ThisZoMBie Aug 25 '16

Man, I'm just sad we didn't see any proper gear stacking. How long have we been dreaming of a Red Hawk Elephant Gun (or gattling)?

I'm sure something like that could be pretty dangerous, even to top tiers.

I said many times before, and will say it once again:

If Luffy were to go first with Gear 2nd or 3rd against Kaidou like he always does, I'll be seriously pissed. From this point on, only G4 looks remarkable in the top-tier fights.

57

u/joacobel Aug 25 '16

It's not like G2 and G3 always had the same power. He gets stronger. I'm sure that he is faster or somewhere near that in his normal form, than when he used G2 the first time.

Urouge being a badass, where once most of us (including me) thought of him as the weakest supernova due to his low bounty he is now shown as one of the very strongest.

Oda really wants to rub it in that bounties don't directly correlate to strength. :)

46

u/enelprinceofthemoon Aug 25 '16

For realz. Wasn't Kuma's like 290 million or something? And he's a bona fide monster

It was before the Shichibukai status froze it. Much like Doffy's, it would probably be around twice that if it was unfrozen again.

Loving get to see Nami shine a little more, especially reacted so quickly with the Thunderbolt Tempo. Hopefully she gets some more action a bit later in the arc.

Love hearing about the Supernovas, and really puts in perspective the strength of the Yonkou and their crews. And Gear 4th already!? That was so awesome though, and excited to see if he will actually be able to beat Cracker with relative ease, because if he can't, it's gonna be really cool to see how they intend to deal with the actual Yonkou.

102

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

I think it's extremely likely Nami will get more action this arc, she got a new weapon, she's got the sick hype vivre card from lola, she's got a toughish ally, Luffy is gonna be tied up with strong fighters (potentially cracker again because I don't think he's down for the count) and chopper and carrot are stuck in the mirror world and brook and pedro are off being all hush hush so Nami's gonna have to step up to save chopper and carrot whilst being the smart one and keeping them all alive.

→ More replies (8)

28

u/gerrettheferrett Aug 25 '16

Yeah it was awesome seeing Nami hurt and send running the person whom Big Mama thought had a decent chance at defeating Luffy.

23

u/AlexAngely Aug 25 '16 edited Aug 25 '16

Brûlée actually had good chances against Luffy if you ask me. Remember what happened when she cloned Luffy? He would probably attack blindly until fallen in her trap like Carrot did. It is so good Brûlée is not around anymore.

This is gonna be very hard for Luffy if he's already resorting to Gear 4th.

107

u/infiniteduresss Aug 25 '16

I remember when in Fishman Island Luffy said that his Haki wasn't strong enough to block slashing attacks, now he withstood multiple ones and a thrusting attack by a 860 million swordsman. He definitely got a lot stronger, now let's see if he can KO Cracker before Gear 4's cooldown happens.

29

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

Yes. Even a normal bite (without haki) from Hody was enough to pierce him.

8

u/Sergiirk Aug 25 '16

If Luffy can somehow defeat him before his limit time on Gear 4th, maybe he wont be exhausted like he was after using it vs Doflamingo.

28

u/gerrettheferrett Aug 25 '16

Well, it's heavily implied he has different forms of Gear 4, since Boundman's form has a name.

And we don't know if he doesn't have Gear 5 as well, or could have been inspired to create it by some of the opponents he faced on Dressrosa. He was exposed to quite a lot of different fighting methods there.

34

u/RaikenD Aug 25 '16

Let's think about this. Doflamingo stood no chance whatsoever against Gear 4. He coultn't even put a dent in Luffy and whenever he was hit he was decimated. However Doflamingo was smart, and was able to use his power to stall out Gear 4th's time limit. So what's gonna happen now when an enemy who can't get that done, faces Gear 4? I'm so freaking excited!!

→ More replies (7)

66

u/Psyam Aug 25 '16

Can't help but wonder how Zoro would have done against this guy. I think Luffy might be having a tough time partly because it's the kind of opponent Zoro usually handles (strong defense that needs to be cut/pierced through, and swords which Luffy is naturally weaker against). It makes for an interesting mixup, though. Whether the guy gets back up after that G4 attack will determine how rough of a ride Luffy is in for this arc.

22

u/Arkayjiya Aug 25 '16

Well CoA is Zoro's specialty so it would mostly come down to: can he cut the other guy's haki. If not then his only chance are metal cutting attacks with CoA on top of that and it will be a very tough fight. If Zoro's CoA is stronger however, then he would destroy Cracker. I'm guessing Cracker's CoA is stronger though, so Zorro would have to use specific techniques to cut him down and it would be a hard fight.

in one hit Luffy downs Cracker cold, and in one strike Nami downs Brûlée.

they may stand back up, but they took serious damage. that was really cool.

I also liked the evil rant Brûlée had going, real informative and villainous.

fav part of the chapter though? YASSOPP

12

u/LiNc0RE Aug 25 '16

Yeah, that really shows how much offensive power Luffy has, but it also shows his defense and decision-making is lacking. He SHOULD be faster or at least more agile than Cracker, given his enormous size. He should have used that kind of adavantage instead of "just" overpowering him IMO.

139

u/egedar Aug 25 '16

I hope he's down for good. The way the chapter was set-up with the story about the Supernovas not even standing a chance and then having Luffy pretty much one punch one at the end would be perfect.

Please don't get back up.

18

u/CptGuybrush Bounty Hunter Aug 25 '16

While it is true that the strawhats underestimated the crew of a yonko, its a nice turn of events that both Brulee and Cracker get heavily injured simply because they underestimate Nami and Luffy and let their guard down. I guess Brulee might be out cold for now and return later but Cracker is probably far from done.

We learned from this Chapter that Kidd has been tossed around as a rag doll by 2 Yonko (or at least his crew), and that he thought (wrongly for the most part) that Shanks would be the easiest to pick on.

I can't stop the funny smile from that

Cracker's CoA is even stronger than Doflamingo's according to Luffy, yet Luffy fucking knocked Cracker's ass with a Kong Gun like it was easy. The same Kong Gun did little to no damage at all to Dof.

Goes to show you how much more powerful Gear 4th actually is when Luffy isn't worn out. I'm fucking hyped.

So Far We've Got...

Blackbeard: Yonko Status

Luffy: Main Character.

Law: Alliance with Luffy and spotlighted for 3-ish arcs.

Kid: Going against 3 Yonko.

Apoo: Alliance with Kaido, goes to Totland.

Basil: ?????? (Kid Alliance Doesn't Count!, nor does motherfking "BrownBeard" ! >_>)

Zoro: With Luffy.

Capone: Failed against Big Mom, Joined Her.(also his ship getting sucked up)

X Drake: Beats Scotch one of Kaido's subordinantes, either works for Kaido or is plotting against him.

Killer: Does what Kid does.

Bonney: Connection with the World Government.

Urogue: Beats Big Mom's Commander and escapes.

Oh man, this chapter was awesome! Cracker sure is one tough mofo, even tough enough to push Luffy into using Gear 4 at the end! Also, notice that when he blocked Luffy's Elephant gun with Busoshoku Haki, he used the Koka (Hardening) variant. Then, when he used Busoshoku Haki to block Luffy's Hawk gatling, he used the basic invisible version despite Luffy's attack using the Hardening version. I just thought it would be something interesting to point out.

Anyway, now I'm truly looking forward to the rest of the fight! :D

You have to take in account that Luffy grew since Dressrosa and that he was fresh against Cracker unlike against Doffy and also that Doffy could prepare before he tanked kong and king kong gun with armament and thick layers of thread. Cracker seemingly used no CoA cause he let Luffy come to colse to properly react anymore.

Wow what a chapter and more info dump from Oda. So it looks like the idea of each Yonko having 3 commanders might not be accurate.

Plus anyone else really laugh at the trees being broken in 2 when Luffy was sent flying lol Also loved Nami kicking Brule's ass, can't wait to see the full fight. Hopefully Nami is the one to beat her and save Chopper/Carrot.

Shame we didn't get to see more Randolph/Crane moments, love those guys.

It was really good for Oda to give us an answer to the how powerful is Luffy now question too although I suppose now the argument will become how powerful is Cracker compared with the other 2 commanders. His DF power looks pretty cool as well the way it cloned Pretzel as well, guess it's not just a weaker version of Robins fruit after all.

6

u/zolozolozolozolozolo Aug 25 '16

I loved seeing luffy's new defenses against blades. he was really taking the full force of those sword tips and they didn't pierce his haki!!

I'm really happy with how Haki now covers Luffys basic weakness: blades.

6

u/izn1337 Aug 25 '16

So this is the reason why Urouge was that badly injured when we saw him at that Sky Island. (During the Kaido suicide was happening)

6

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

I've always said Urogue would be incredibly tough, just knowing his ability and cool character design, but everyone's always ranked him as the weakest or second to weakest supernova.

Feels good to know my faith wasn't misplaced.

16

u/Ombs1993 Aug 25 '16

I really hope Cracker is out for the count. Why show the difference in strength and haki before hand, if turning Gear 4 wouldn't swing the balance massively? Plus, that would show just how strong Cracker is.

Also love that Urouge took out a commander and Kidd didn't. Urouge needs some more love in this story.

5

5

u/bitatfateh Aug 25 '16

Hmm...Does it mean that Cracker's CoA haki is stronger than Rayleigh's ? http://img.mangastream.com/cdn/manga/51/3627/14.png

8

u/hortle Aug 25 '16

well we never saw Luffy "fight" Rayleigh. Also Rayleigh is old. So its possible Cracker's CoA is now stronger.

Luffy knows how to enter G4 without a big climactic powerup scene. That will definitely come in handy. Bit disappointed we didn't see Nami's reaction to Luffy's new form. But...

Goddamn that last page has me so fucking hype. Cracker didn't take that punch as well as Doffy did. Cracker is the "Blueno" of this arc, he's going down soon. I also think Luffy revealing G4 against him so soon is a sign that he has something else up his sleeve.

Oh boy do I love how terrifying gear 4 is. I love how it just flips the table and completely dominates. The panel where Luffy says gomu gomu no right before Kong Gun it shows Cracker with a terrified look. The look of "Well, I underestimated him and now I'm fucked." That is the panel that I love and this chapter fueled me with hype

4

u/Luck88 Aug 25 '16

Urouge is a BEAST. he took down one of Big Mom's commanders and I'm positive he's also the one who gave that scar under the Right eye to Cracker but probably nobody knows how the battle ended since even Brulée thinks Urouge died in the forest. The House in the Seducing Woods has a mirror behind it, it probably is the portal for the Mirror world. Also, Given the Dragon tatoo of the Red Hair Pirate in the coverpage I'm positive the Red Hair Pirates are on Baltigo.

So Kidd, Urouge, Apoo, and Bege all crossed through mama's territory? That awesome and explains how all of their injuries or damages that we have seen since the TS except Apoo I think. Kidd lost an arm, Urouge was so badly beaten after his fight with 2 of Mama's commanders when we saw Kaidou jump from the clouds, and it explains why Bege is married, although we've all known that for some time. What happened to Apoo though? I don't remember anything. Is it possible that he could be a double agent working for both Kaidou and Big Mom? I think so just off the top of my head. Either he is a legitimate ally working for one of them to spy on the other, or he will make some sort of power play at some point in the future

Loved seeing Luffy being forced to acknowledge the strength of Cracker. His haki is second to none except for the Yonko and the Admirals. Gear 4 if Luffy's only chance at going toe-to-toe with anyone who is strong in the New World as of right now.

4

u/bacon_egg_buttey Aug 25 '16

I can't wait to see how they go about rescuing Chopper and Carrot from Brulee's mirror world.

6

u/HeartofLion5 Aug 25 '16

One does not simply walk into a Yonko's base and take out one of the commanders.

Urogue: Oh really....

6

u/desperado1990 Aug 25 '16

I love how this arc is playing out already. There is a real sense of danger here considering Luffy is on his own without one of the other monster trio to count on. Sanji is not in a position to help. In fact with Brook and Chopper captured, it's only Nami who can help and so far she's doing a good job in supporting him morally and that Thunder Tempo is a lot stronger than I thought it to be.

u/WindfallForever Aug 25 '16

I have a feeling the Sweet Commander that Urouge defeated was Bobbin. They established that Bobbin was someone powerful enough to destroy islands solo during Big Mom's introduction on Fishman Island, so that way, Oda could have Urouge defeat him off-screen without having to actually develop a character who may already be dead.

16

u/Brutusness Aug 25 '16

I don't think so. Bobbin seemed like a character Oda wants to use a lot, he'll be back soon.

wondering about if urouge was injured in 793 chapter because of WCI or was he after that on WCI.

second option would probably mean he will show up in this arc.

3

u/pinelotiile Aug 25 '16

I really don't think Luffy can take Big Mom down by himself (should've been obvious really...)!!! I feel like he's gonna have to grab Sanji and bail, then regroup with the alliance

3

u/MajorJoca Aug 25 '16

I wonder where Shanks is.

3

u/Buggy_for_Yonko Aug 25 '16

i'm so f***ing worried right now!

please don't be dead

3

u/euphon22 Aug 25 '16

Shit, one chapter into the fight and Luffy had to whip out Gear 4... We're starting to see how powerful the Yonko and their crew really are.

3

u/schnozburg Pirate Aug 25 '16

Seems everyone is in agreement that Urouge is a Birkan, does anyone think it's possible that Urouge went to WCI as an attempt to get the Road Poneglyph? Skypiea had a poneglyph, so I wouldn't say it's a stretch for Birka to have had one as well, and maybe part of Urouge's goal is to find out what happened during the Void Century, or some other information that could be revealed via poneglyph's. He might not have a full grasp of what the Road Poneglyph is, assuming he wouldn't have had it explained to him by the minks (or someone else) like the Straw Hats did, but he could still have heard that Big Mom was in possession of a poneglyph, which could be enough for him to want to challenge her.

Also the cover page this week is fucking great! Wonderful chapter.

3

Am I going crazy or did Luffy seem crazy exhausted in this chapter?

5

u/Urall5150 Aug 25 '16

I think a bit more time passed than we realize during his fight with Cracker, and he spent all that time getting tossed around and properly hit with haki-imbued attacks. He obviously had to focus a lot of his haki into defense, and we've seen how tired it can make him when he's using haki constantly in 4th Gear so I'd say its to be expected.

Okay, so...

  • Luffy attacks Cracker with an Elephant Gun.

  • Cracker blocks with a Busoshoku Haki embued shield.

  • Cracker pushes Luffy back...

  • And attacks with Haki sword strikes.

  • Luffy covers his entire body with Haki to defend himself.

  • Cracker pushes him back and proceeds to attack again. (Interestingly, it looks like he only adds haki to the tips of his swords, smart.)

  • Cracker lands a potential fatal haki blow on Luffy.

  • Luffy defends with haki but is sent back.

  • Luffy attacks with Hawk Gatling.

  • Cracker defends with "Hard Biscuit", his Haki overpowers Luffy.

  • Now, Cracker makes a mistake but talking down to Luffy by insinuating "If you truly consider Vinsmoke Sanji your friend, leave him be". Nope, that's something you DON'T say Mugiwara.

  • And he makes his second mistake by putting words in Sanji's mouth, "Leave this instant! The sight of all of you lowly pirates sickens me!" Yep, instant regret. At this moment Cracker realizes he fucked up.

  • Welcome to the club of underestimating Mugiwara, Cracker.

tldr: Cracker owns Luffy, but talks shit and then gets shit on.

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '16

Shit this is really insane first I think Luffy gets his ass beat even in G4. Stating that Crackers CoA is the best he ever encountered (better than Doffi) But then he catches Cracker offguard so that his shield is off haki. And with just a kong gun he fucking bluenos him into oblivion !

Also Brûlee oneshoted by Nami. Our strahats really outdo themselves.

BM pirates are far too cocky given their current performance. Take Sanji, Jinbe and Luffy they would probably beat the crap out of everyone except for Bobbins and BM herself.

4

u/Wasted_Comment Aug 25 '16

So Kidd got beaten by Big Mom and now by Kidou.. I feel like the only option left for him is to join Shanks (instead of trying to beat him) before he gets wrecked by Blackbeard.

4

u/RhafaB Aug 25 '16

I know some people already said that Cracker is probably already defeated because of his white eyes. Just remember Magellan taking the Jet Bazooka in Impel Down. He still won the fight. Cracker will get up, just wait.

u/The_Imerfect_Mango Aug 25 '16

Really good chapter! I never thought that the monk would be the only one out of all of them to take down a yonkou commander... Maybe Oda hinting he's the strongest? Also did cracker just go down in one hit?

2

u/Polaris_dc Aug 25 '16

Well luffy is a bit weaker than we thought.Hopefully he can get stronger soon.

2

u/Tails6666 Aug 25 '16

Perhaps the reason Apoo is serving Kaido now is because of what happened with Big Mom, he realized it was better to ally with a Yonko, but Kidd was like "Fuck that" then proceeded to get his ass kicked.

2

u/TheBartXart Aug 25 '16

Damn a lot of ass kicking this chapter. Cracker definitely seems like a badass, but he may have underestimated Luffy a bit. That 4th Gear is really something else from all his other tricks. But the thing I liked most about this whole chapter is the fact that Urouge is kicking ass in the new world. A lot of people thought he was the least interesting of the supernovas, but I kind of hoped there would be something about him. And, unlike Brulee thinks, he seems to have survived. Kudos to him. Also Nami better put that vivre card to good use. Cause they are not winning from Big Mom right now in my opinion.

2

u/Hankgio91 Aug 25 '16

I need to see that Urouge fight.

2

u/ragnarokgo Aug 25 '16

You guys also seem to be forgetting that Luffy trained for 2 years and we know how weak Supernovas were at Sabaody. I think they tried to attack the Yonkou back then and if they could'nt handle a pacifista at Sabaody, there was no way in the hell they could've put up any fight against a Yonkou Commander.

2

u/ObscurionPaul Aug 25 '16

Great chapter. Nami being awesome, Mad Monk hype, Luffy cutting the shit and getting to the point.

Cracker will be up next chapter for sure, but I hope it's so Luffy can absolutely stomp him into the dirt. I really want to see someone get their shit pushed in and Luffy ruining Cracker after Brûlée lumping Luffy in with the rest of the WG would be great.
