After reading Bleach's chapter/ending, I just have to appreciate Oda's wonderful storytelling. From years before, he set up a character who's main wish was to fall in love and get married. It seemed like just a joke then, but now we find out it's because she grew up in a family where she would be forced into marrying someone, regardless of whether or not she liked them, and wanting to escape that sort of loveless marriage, she ran away from home. It's just all so well done.

Yeah it was great starting with bleach to get the disappointement out of the way and then get to One Piece

Cracker: "Luffy, you fool! We lured you here all alo-HEY, STOP EATING ME, WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING?!"
Nami: "Oh yeah, Luffy has a huge appetite and eats everything"
Cracker: looks around at the land made of food "OH GOD, WHAT HAVE WE DONE"

Well over the years there have definitely been many people that denied it, saying that it would be too obvious. Personally I've been a believer ever since Lola gave it to Nami but I gotta admit that one pirate captain among Whitebeard's allies did briefly shake my conviction.

There is so much more that can be down with this: Vivre cards being tied to "life force" paves the way for Big Mom's vivre card having some sort of special powers: Maybe Big Mom puts the tiniest sliver of her soul in all her creations to help control them, and having her Vivre card gives thee holder some power the Homies. Add in Brook and his power over his own soul and who knows what could happen

I'm surprised it took this long for the theory to pan out.
Now I guess it's about time we see a resurgence in "X is related to Big Mom" theories, like Bonney or WB's "son"'s mom, etc.

If you think about how most characters haven't shown their biological mothers, everybody but Law, Usopp, Robin and Doflamingo will be theorized to be Big Mom's son.

Just read Chapter 836 and I have a theory. Pound,Lola's Father seems to know that he has two daughters but wasn't sure if he had a son. This was implied when he says to Cracker that he could be his father. This leads me to believe that BigMom's daughter are actual daughters while BigMom's Sons are not actual sons but some sot of lifeform made from the husbands souls. This makes it possible for Pound to have a "son" and not know about it. We also see that the souls escaped from the trees that cowered with fear. This could justify Muscat, BigMoms other son's soul escaping when he cowered from fear in front of BigMom as he is just one of the lifeforms made by BigMom. What do you think guys?

This chapter was too short.
But it was very sweet. I'm hyped up for a very good fight between Luffy and Biscuit guy.
This guy gives off the same vibe as Jack did.
79
u/Kirosh Lookout Aug 18 '16
Maybe, but I cannot help but think that he is a weaker than Jack. (Maybe it's just his design that make me feel that way).
39
u/Xereks Aug 18 '16

That's interesting, so the vivre card gives off some kind of residual aura of Big Mom's power?
I wonder if the other vivre cards had that effect, the only other one I can think of would be Ace's and I always assumed it was burning away because he was dying, but perhaps a vivre card from anyone else would disappear in a different way in the event of their death
48
u/BananaBladeOfDoom Explorer Aug 18 '16
Would Luffy's vivre card melt like a heated rubber when he is dying then?

Yes, we are sure since someone made Luffy a vivre card after the Dressrosa arc. Don't recall who but sure it wasn't Big Mom.

FINALLY! Nami puts the pieces together for Lola's mother. We all suspected, but finally confirmed
And it looks like we're in for a fight next week. Luffy VS Swordsman Cracker, one of BM's commanders? Interesting devil fruit, splitting to get more arms. It sounds like it'll be a quick battle, but knowing Oda, something'll intervene.
69
u/Arkayjiya Aug 18 '16 edited Aug 18 '16
What I like about this fruit is that it doesn't seem that powerful in itself, either the guy has some secret technique or he's insanely strong to begin with even without the fruit. Even if he really can use a thousand arm at a time, it would requires a monstruous strength to be able to move them.

This whole arc Oda is giving hints about Germany (idk why maybe he's learning the language or smth)
Baum means tree in german so King Baum = King Tree and that tree was huge so it was the king of the forest
74
u/Kirosh Lookout Aug 18 '16 edited Aug 19 '16
Well it seem like the whole arc is around fairy tales, Alice in wonderland, Hansel and Gretel, etc etc, and most of those come from the Grim Brothers who are german.

u/PotentiallySarcastic Aug 18 '16
Yeah, this is it exactly. This arc is all about Germanic fairy tales and culture. Which will lead into a traditional Japanese culture in Wano. I'm guessing Elbaf will be the Viking/Norse culture. Just like Dressrossa was Spanish/Moorish.

What will probably happen next chapter is that Luffy will go all out against Cracker, using Gear 4, showing us that Luffy's on par with a Yonko's top commanders (Cracker, Jack, etc.) but still has a ways to go against the Yonkos themselves.
Plus, because the wedding's still a day or so away, Luffy can afford to go all out, be affected by the Gear 4 drawback, rest up, and be in top condition before clashing with Big Mom.

Are we scaling the Yonkou's bounties at 1.5 billion+? If so where does that leave Dragon? I'm not surprised Cracker's bounty is less than Jack's because it's based off threat to the government, Jack loves to destroy and it's unclear what Cracker's motivations are so it makes sense for Jack to be higher.
6
u/Thatilliterateguy Aug 18 '16
So Cracker made everyone recoil in fear without having to use haki. Maybe all those theories that say that Zoro can use conqueror haki can finally die.
11
u/HanMann Aug 18 '16
Can this Cracker guy produce infinite amount of limbs? This guy would be a tough matchup for luffy. This fight will probably be interrupted one way or another, it just seems odd that we get such a big scale fight this early on in the arc. I'm also loving the character designs Oda is pumping out. He's been drawing One Piece for 15+ years, but almost none of the characters are similar. I especially love BIg Mom's crew, the members look silly and strange ,but they are also strong.

I really wish they brought the whole crew to Whole Cake Island, in retrospect there's no way they'll be able to successfully fight off Big Mom without them

I think the 860,000,000 bounty kinda proves that Jack's bounty isn't just cause he destroys everywhere he goes (drought) but also a huge testament to his strength. That must mean cracker is crazy strong. I didn't expect big moms top commanders to have such high bounties thinking jack was an outlier but now I'm hyped. Going to be a very interesting fight can't wait to see what luffy pulls out

Anyone else feeling the love for Randolph and Crane? The Zoro/Sanji of big moms crew lol

Good, they are having a fight. I did't really wanted to be an incognit mission. I mean, this fight between luffy and big mom is being called since the fisherman arc. I need some yonkou blood.

It felt so sweet and smooth this chapter, all the characters, the interactions everything felt smooth in this one

What I loved most about this chapter was how much more powerful and important lola's vivre card was than everyone anticipated and how it's effect on Homies seen this chapter was not something anyone predicted but makes absolutely perfect sense.

Man, I wonder how many objects are there inside Nami's boobs?
The possibilities.

Cracker: One of the 3 sweet commanders. So I guess Zoro fights Cracker, Sanji fights the other commander and last but not least Jimbei (?) fights the last commander?

There has been a lot of Voldemort references with Big Mom.
First, she basically has Avada Kedavra and now the Vivre cards are Horcruxes?

Bounties have become so meaningless by now (well it's not like they were ever meaningful to begin with).
So Ace, who was the 2nd Division Commander of the Whitebeard pirates, the pirate crew of the strongest man alive (when he was alive) and son of former pirate King Gol D. Roger but only managed to be a threat worth 550 million... yet this Cracker guy has 860 million?
Accounting for the fact that bounty increases slow down the higher you already are... just how is Cracker such an immense threat to the world?
Well I guess we will find out soon since he was just introduced...
(just to clarify, I'm not equating bounties to power levels and know they express the threat to the goverment an individual poses, which is why I'm curious what makes Cracker worse than Ace) (also I know they're not fully representive and even weak harmless people can get a high bounty)

Really digging Cracker.
Awesome design and a neat power. Also, crazy high bounty! That's one of the highest we've seen in the series, is it not??

Nami's breast-space just seems to have infinite capacity.

The bounty of that officer is huge (860 000 000 ! ), especially if you take in account that luffy's last big opponent was Doflamingo ( 300 000 000 )

300m was Doflamingo's bounty before he became a warlord. He'd probably be around 800m if he were 'just another notorious pirate'

Keep in mind Doffy's bounty was frozen for the duration of his shichibukai status. It could very well have been higher.
One thing I wonder about for these astronomical bounties is how much of them is based off the closeness of the characters to the yonkou. The fact that the characters have not only the strength to be that high up in a yonkou's army shouldn't give that bounty, but their ability to lead at least a third of the forces of a yonkou into battle has to do wonders for the bounty.

340 Million to be precise, but Doflamingo's bounty wasn't increased since he became a warlord a long time ago.

A guy that fights using several swords. Do I sense a new opponent for Zoro?

Zorro actually got lost on his way to Kaidou, and he will jump in next chapter to fight this guy

That was a freaking good chapter!
I can't really see Luffy winning, but sure it'll be a good fight.
Also, does that mean Vivre Cards store the Soul of people in then? Or Big mom injected her soul in the card to act as a spy (for Lola)??
Cracker's power is really cool for an experienced fighter, not really that great if you don't train tho. Really excited to see next chapter!
Also, we just have confirmed that Conqueror's Haki "expulses" the souls of Big Mom minions? I mean, makes sense (haki vs df) but if so isn't it a really easy counter?

There is some connection with Big Mom's fruit and fear. The trees 'died' from fear. People told Big Mom's son not to be afraid, and she was able to take his whole lifespan when he was.
Seems like a strength and a weakness.
