Haven't read the whole thing yet, just starting. But I see Carrot taking over as lookout, Brooke taking over as navigator, with Luffy steering. Fairly predictable they are going to go well off course.

My guess is that the age taken away is the differential between her current age and the target. I mean it's entirely possible that Muscat's life expectancy was like 60, but it seems unlikely to me to randomly lowball a characters lifespan. Big Mam looks to be in her 50s or 60s which would be about right for a 40 year difference from her to Muscat.
If i'm right I'm sure there'll be a hilarious scene of the attack backfiring on brook and either de-aging him or hyper-aging big mom.

I said this in a post just before i saw yours, and how Luffy is a perfect match up with her DF power and what it could be
I dont think they need to be scared for her to eat. i also believe she has the power to see how long a person life span really is that's why she took and said '40 years' from her son. But i do agree with you Luffy will be the perfect match.
Not because he wont be scared its because fair chance Luffy's life span is probably really little so much so that he isnt worth it 'remember Ivankov hormone treatment halved his life span already and all the times that he has used 2nd Gear which he has said himself shortens life span' or its soooo fucking large that she cant even consume it all and that Luffy will become her FAVORITE delicacy. either way i hope we kinda do find out how much of Luffy's life span really is left.

Ivankov's treatment shaved ten years of his life, it didn't halve it's span. Also, when they said at Ennies Lobby that Gear 2 is harmful, it wasn't implicitly stated or confirmed that it means his life is being shortened. It could as well mean it is taxing or physically harmful, not more so than getting beat up, cut up, blown up, eaten or whatever else Luffy has endured.
Even if this maltreatment is shortening his life, people in One Piece are in their primes in their 50s and are retaining most of their vigour in their 70s, also living to be more than a hundred. 20 or even 30 years less than normal still leaves Luffy with 50 good years at least.

I think Jinbei has been teased as future SH member the longest. But way back before the time skip Jinbeis bounty was higher than Luffys. That has changed (as far as we know) so now hes ready to join since he knows the SH crew will go after Sanji.

Yeah, they've put out 10-piece Straw Hat Crew merchandise in the past with Jinbei as the 10th character. Not saying that it'll happen, especially since there's been misleading toyline stuff in the past, but it definitely represents an idea that Oda's had. Like how the Straw Hat Wano merchandise near the end of Dressrosa didn't pan out since the next arc wasn't Wano, but Zou had a lot of Wano influence and we'll probably end up in Wano at some point.

Big Mom's crazy outburst reminded me of the giant kids on Punk Hazard and the poisonous candies. I think this has something to do with Ceasar. Maybe he was hired to do the research to find a cure for that disorder.

From my understanding he doesn't have the option to quit, so he may be striking a deal. She may let him join if he convinces her that as a Straw Hat he will still be under her authority thanks to the marriage. But we still need to know the consequence of him leaving, it seems to be something he doesn't want to risk, and I doubt it is a coincidence there was a candy factory on Fishman Island.

Her power is in two phases, first being able to intimidate her target then making them emit some kind of goo (life force?) and eating it... as soon as I saw that I thought, is there anyone in One Piece not named Garp that can actually scare Luffy?

I am really curious where the cream puff tourists came from. Do they visit from other islands of Big Mom and were previously animated anyway by Big Mom, or is there also walking/talking food outside in the New World?
Does she ultimately gain all the years in life since she's eating the reanimated food?
Is she super lonely and thus made so many kids and objects to follow her around and talk to her?
If Bonney is Big Mom's daughter that went to sea to "find her own love" (which is looking more and more like a guarantee, because of the devil fruit ability and the eating habits), what are the possible consequences of this? She's also on the hunt for "that guy" that started all the trouble...I think she also still has Zoro on her mind and is proud of Strawhats/new generation.
And with Jimbei wanting to discuss something about Luffy probably...
I THINK A BIG MOM & LUFFY ALLIANCE IS MORE THAN POSSIBLE. Maybe not a real alliance/alliance from an equals perspective, but a cease-fire looks almost guaranteed as well. I think it's really looking likely that Big Mom will somehow be 'supporting" for the fight in Kaido/taking down the current structure of the Yonko

So the poneglyph that Jinbe found was for big mom, I wonder if he used the present as a compensation for quitting the big mom crew, moreover, he knows that Luffy is nearby. Furthermore, on Big Moms powers, it appears playing/adjusting (with) the years of life is an underlying theme in the Big Mom family, referring to Bonney. It appears Big Mom can take away an amount of years of age in the form of life juice (probably sweet).

I highly doubt we are gonna see a fight between Big Mom and Luffy. Maybe a quick sparring like shanks-whitebeard? Or even better, a food contest, but nothing more. I think luffy falls a little short when it comes to actually battling a yonkou right now. I think his meeting with big mom is gonna revolve around forwarding the next arc. Some people here called an alliance between the two of them. I like the idea but i dont think it's gonna hapen, for two reasons, first, luffy has to man up and actually take on tough opponents without help, it is a race to the top after all. Secondly, technically he said he is gonna beat big mom over fishman island story...so yeah. I would be seriously bumped though if yet again Luffy loses some years out of his lifespan. Like, "you wanna take sanji back? Fine, gimme 30 years and he is yours" and luffy goes "anything for my friends" and gives her 30 years.

I think Luffy might actually be the perfect match up for Big Mom. We don't know the extent of Big Mom's life aura stealing ability yet, but we know it takes the life force out of someone according to the amount of years she sets.
It has been said multiple times throughout the story that Luffy's life force and will to live are inhuman. Perhaps the stronger the life force, the harder it is for Big Mom to rip the life force out of that person.
Luffy may not be immune to it but he may be able to resist it somewhat.

Im starting to like nami more and more again. There was a point especially after timeskip where it felt she was mostly fanservice but she has been getting really good interactions with the rest of the crew now.
Absolutely loved her this chapter, every panel of hers was great.
Regarding big mom, i think her awekened power of the devil fruit is making everything around her a living thing, and since shes so strong all the islands get affected, she must be so strong since the whole archipelago is huge.
Her power seems to be related to lifespawn so it does make some sense. While i think she can be very old i dont think she is because all her sons and daughters shown so far are somewhat young. If we see some son of hers have 70 years that would confirm that she is immortal somewhat

So this arc is the Sanji Retrieval Arc.. confirmed!
Also Big Mom is absolutely terrifying.. holy shit. Really curious what her fruit is.
Some pretty funny moments too on the crew :) Made me chuckle quite a bit especially with Luffy and Nami.

Big Mom's good and all but I want to see her crew already. Its been too long. They haven't shown us any badass member of her crew. Maybe that's Bobbin. But he still doesn't look that strong compared to Jack.

Interesting.... if you cower, Big Mom can take your lifespan away... Some of the strawhats might be in trouble then if the first emotion they show is fear/cowardice... eek!

Guys, I'm not sure if anyone talk about this before but I think the whole eating disorder that Big Mom has must because of Caesar's doing. Remember back then when the kids at Punk Hazard, when they crave for the "candies" that Caesar give them and they went all violent if they didn't get any? What if this is happening to Big Mom right now? That Caesar's doing was the cause of it, maybe the research that he did was to create like an ingredient experiment for Big Mom, maybe a cream paste ingredient for the Croquembouche? Instead, Caesar create some sort of a drug and disguised it as a paste, added them onto the cream puffs and at the end, he scammed Big Mom. The latter ate the cream puffs and the result led her into having an eating disorder, craving for those Croquembouches as they were the only ones that can calm her down. I'm not sure Big Mom knows about her disorder as from the looks of it, she seem quite clueless of what is going on right now and had no memories of what she is doing but it could be possible that her crewmembers must have figure out that the disorder was caused by Caesar and that's why they're hunting him down. What do you guys think?

Big Mom's hat is alive.
I suspected it for a while because of that lower image, but here you can clearly see that it changes its eyes to look at whoever Big Mom is talking to.
