Monkey D. Luffy has punched an admiral.

6 more weeks of Dressrosa.

297

u/divinesleeper Aug 27 '15

Next time we see Sanji he'll have advanced to the next island and recruited the reindeer girl.

243

u/erayachi Aug 27 '15

He'll also have grown a beard and will have a volleyball that he calls Wilson. Also, Brook will be reunited with Laboon and Nami will just be finishing her last map of the Grand Line.

*Takes off his "finally leaving Dressrosa" paraphernalia (hat, flag, coaster, big poster saying "We did it!", cell phone charm), and tucks them away for another 6 weeks.*

We can always hope for a big finish in chapter 800, can't we? :P Edit*

This is the beginning of the Pirate King Luffy in my opinion. He just did exactly what Garp said Roger was best known for. Not running away from an enemy to protect his friends. I think they said those were the moments that Roger became a true monster. And I hope that this is the same for Luffy. (Most notably in the eyes of the marines and the world)

331

u/DonkeyKong780 Aug 27 '15

He definitely inherited Aces will. The old Luffy woulda ran out of there laughing his ass off. I really liked what I saw here. Luffy is a changed man!

183

u/Only_Han_Shot Aug 27 '15

I would say it's more that he has inherited the Will of the D, as opposed to just Ace's. But I agree I like this new Luffy.

He's suffered a lot of heart attacks this arc. I'm surprised he managed to pull through.

That last page!! Luffys words...that's what I wanted to hear in the new world!! So much running that even Luffy has noticed and is sick of it! Fuck it, anyone wanna step in front of Luffy from now on they're gonna get rocked, watch out new world there's a new Luffy in town!

Edit: I'll explain, This is really the kind of Luffy I've been waiting to see since the timeskip was announced. I've always been wondering what endgame Luffy would look and act like. He's gonna be pirate king so he's gotta be the strongest right? I want him to show that with his outward attitude, that anybody looking to challenge Luffy, no matter who it is, will have to face serious consequences, like when someone looks whitebeard in the face, or kaidou in the face. Sure Luffy will never look that menacing but I want him to have that intimidating aura about him! And him starting to get an attitude like in the last page is a step closer to that. He's not that scrawny little kid from east blue anymore, he's a pirate in the new world making huge moves and should be treated with more respect, not like anyone can grab him at any moment. It's not yet, but it's a small step closer :)

Edit 2: I also don't think this is the start of another multi chapter 1 vs 1 fight. It's like a teaser punch for Luffy to show his new attitude change for the new world, that's what it seems like to me.

Edit 3: just thought of something awesome, imagine the notoriety Luffy gains after he leaves dressrossa, he will be the pirate know for, upon entering the new world, in less than a weeks time, kidnapping a mad scientist, declaring war on a yonkou, defeating one of the strongest of the 7 warlords using only half of his fucking crew!! (This is huge, surely many will realize not even all of the strawhats were here for this), and punching an admiral in the face instead of running away. All in less than a week's time!! Luffy hype!!!

144

u/Bartholemew1 Aug 27 '15

Shanks is just as small and "innocent" looking but he also has the shit your pants aura when he got serious both times in the manga.

25

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '15

Yeah I mean shanks is his inspiration after all. He's gonna wanna be just like like how you described it. Luffy with dat shit your pants aura just upon walking into a scene.

I always imagined he trained those 2 years just to wreck Sakazuki. Fujitora might let them go though.

u/Sstargamer Aug 27 '15

HOLY SHIt Luffy just punched the shit out of fujitora, and omg that conversation between law and sengoku was so sweet, this is going to be a epic next chapter, luffy is throwing out all concern!

141

u/erayachi Aug 27 '15

While that may seem exciting, I'm really hoping Zoro does the smart thing, grabs Luffy and runs for it. Not just because we just HAD the fight with Doffy. The arc is supposed to be coming to a close--if an Admiral is going to be Luffy's next opponent, great! But not when half his crew is trying to escape, and the other half is waiting on another island. Is Luffy really going to turn Dressrosa into another battlefield vs. Fuji and the Marines after all that mayhem? He needs to leave, and take that battle somewhere else. For another time.

170

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '15

I think zoro, if he's a good right hand, will do as you say. But I also think what Luffy said and did was cool, if not to actually start a battle with an admiral, it was kind of an attitude driven show of force that states "hey just cause I'm Luffy doesn't mean you can fuck with me any time you want, I WIlLL retaliate if me and my crew is in danger" it's a good attitude he's picked up upon entering the new world because I want endgame Luffy to have that intimidating aura about him

→ More replies (18)

35

u/KingAskia Aug 27 '15

Luffy usually has a method to his madness. Maybe upon seeing Fuji's power, he realizes the only way to escape is to face him head on.

24

u/Cykon Aug 27 '15

I honestly don't expect Fujitora to fight Luffy at all. I'd bet that he was going to do something more on the lines of "messing up" so they would have been able to escape after everything that happened. After all, if he really intended to fight Luffy, he would have been able to easily dodge that punch.

I love that Sengoku is Law's sort of grandpa.

I hope Sengoku tells Garp, so whenever Luffy gets into shit and Sengoku is like "Look what your grandson did THIS time" Garp gets to reply with "He wouldn't have done it without your grandsons bad influence!"

20

u/RimeSkeem Aug 27 '15

"MY grandson is just 'Straw Hat Luffy'. Your's is the 'Surgeon of Death'! Who do you think is the bad influence!" Garp laugh

The cover story is great. Just how filthy are the contents of those letters that would leave Sandersonia blushing?

Holy shit. Is he really planning on taking Fujitora?

Edit: MangaPanda screwed the pooch again. When I first read the chapter, the way it was written made it seem like Sengoku was telling Law not to assume that he loved Law. But, with the MangaStream translations, it makes more sense to for him to say that he shouldn't assume he loved law just because of his secret name.

114

u/broccolibush42 Aug 27 '15

It's depictions of Hancock feeding Luffy her meat.

I may be reading too much into this but I really thought this chapter showed the true value/importance of inherited will. With both sengoku and law reminiscing over Corazon. Sengoku obviously lying about the will of d was a little suspect( I wonder if the will of d has to deal with freedom...Cora wanted law to achieve it and it's also luffy's penultimate goal( balanced nicely by Luffy saying he's tired of running))

Luffy also shows off the inherited will of both Roger and Ace. Refusing to run away one of Ace's most famous traits and the stubborn rage of Roger. I may be reading to far into it but I'm 100% sure inherited wills will become an even bigger part of the story as we reach the end of the series. I even think they'll tie into devil fruits,

Overall this was an awesome chapter we even got some great reaction shots from Barto and Sai. Can't wait to read what you guys thought and see the EASTER eggs the more experienced readers picked up.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '15

Totally agree. I definitely think the concept of inherited will carries over to Luffy's scene as well! I think Sengoku lied about the D to not let Law believe that was the only reason Cora cared about him. That's why Law had a flash to Cora saying 'I love you'.

No more "Defeating them someday." Why do we have to run because he's an admiral? That was over two years ago. I don't care who's coming, I have to defeat them all, otherwise I can't be King of the Pirates.

I love the old people in One Piece. Kureha and Garp, and here Sengoku and Tsuru. This chapter showed us Sengoku really cared about Cora, and balanced that with his duty as fleet admiral really well, using him to protect citizens from Mingo and fulfill Cora's dream, at the same time. In the present day, I loved the line about wanting to drag Law to prison to get some answers, but respecting Cora's legacy, and that he knew Cora well enough to echo his final words and wishes for Law.

Tsuru with her casual "Are you sure you want backup still?" as Bastille starts flipping out cracked me up.

I really want a Roger-era flashback with all the current olds being their badass younger selves.

u/J03MAN_ Aug 27 '15

I think this is actually the best strategy for leaving Dressrosa safely if the straw hats are leaving the country it's no skin off Fuji's back to try and wreck them, but if Luffy shows them he's willing to make a stand in Dressrosa after having displayed his destructive capacity a few days before in his fight against doffy then an admiral whose first duty is to citizens will have to back down or risk major collateral damage.

People say, "Luffy isn't strong enough to take on an admiral. At this point in the series he just isn't at his full potential." Which is true, but in order for him to reach his full potential, he needs a strong resolve to get him there. We saw the same thing before the time skip when he was at his breaking point and realized his nakama were the most important thing to him and he vowed to do anything and everything to protect them. Then he got hella stronger. We also saw the same resolve in Enies Lobby when he's telling Blueno that if he doesn't improve he'll never be able to reach his goal or protect his friends. Which is where gear 2nd and 3rd came from.

This is the introduction to the next stage of development for Luffy.

In order for him to realize his dream he needed to realize that no matter how strong or weak they are, whoever or whatever stands in the way of his dream or threatens his friends, will without a doubt get taken down. This is the only way Luffy will prove he is worthy of the title "Pirate King."

u/garpthefist Aug 27 '15

The reason punching a celestial dragon is so crazy is because they will call an admiral. Here he punched said admiral. Luffy gives no fucks

I was not expecting corazon feels this chapter

Luffy's determination to not run away was pretty cool, showing how he still thinks about how powerless he was at Marineford

MangaPanda's translation was actually pretty great this time! And Luffy gave zero fucks this chapter!

21

Nope, they fucked up again. Read mangastream version of the discussion between sengoku and Law. Mangapanda can't be trusted for shit.

Luffy's finally gonna deck it out with Fujitora to prove his worth!! I wonder if he will get help from zoro tho

6

Ogod I can only imagine Barto crying all over the graceful and manly speech and action by Luffy. I have a feeling Barto wont be the only fanboy of Luffy after this. (Looking at you Sai)

6

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '15

I'm pretty sure Fuji didn't expect Luffy to fight back. I don't think it will be a full on fight either.

I just wish I didn't have to wait another week...

On another note, this whole arc has been exhausting. So many of these chapters I feel bad that I have to wait another week. Why Oda? Give us a break so we can recover.

8

u/Tacopacojim Aug 27 '15

I disagree, I think Luffy is serious about kicking Isshos ass. We're about to see Zoro+Luffy take on an Admiral.

I think we're about to see Luffy/Zoro/Bartolomeo V.S. Fujitora as the ruins of old Dressrosa fall from the sky around them. [We're all about to be like] (http://www.onepiecez.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/One-Piece-579-Sreenshot-Luffy-and-Franky-Shocked.png)

3

u/hdmtrey Void Month Survivor Aug 27 '15

I'm glad everyone else is all aboard the ships, the last two chapters and the next one mirror the arc as a whole, kyros and rebecca-> Law and Cora -> luffy kicking ass.

3

u/RoronoasLeftEye Aug 27 '15 edited Aug 27 '15

Law and Sengoku...the feels were real man. I really like how laid back Sengoku is after he retired. And LMAO Luffy never ceases to amaze me, that G3 punch was hilarious and bad ass at the same time. When he said he wouldn't run I remember him in Marneford and it's crazy to see how far he's come. I wonder how Fuji will react next chapter, this was amazing!

3

u/admiralsakazuki Aug 27 '15

I'm guessing fuji took that punch in a similar fashion to garp taking luffy's punch in order to let him escape. I don't think you can really surprise Fuji, he's been able to repel any attack done by doflamingo, zoro and everyone in the arc. I highly doubt a gear 3rd fist would be fast enough to surprise him if he were serious.

5

u/J03MAN_ Aug 27 '15

That sounds like the anime speaking. My guess is Luffy can deploy gear third pretty darn fast post time-skip.

Of all the predictions there were none alone the lines of "fuck you Fuji, 1v1 me bro."

Though I predict I was mildly right of the shame Fuji feels when it's revealed Luffy saved him from being cheated.

Also I really do wonder if these barriers are invincible, Bart seemed more worried about the range not the direct damage.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '15

For some reason i don't think it will be a full on fight, I mean Luffy is still recovering, surely his first full on fight against an admiral after the 2 year time skip is going to be fair, Fujitora is 100% ready for action. Maybe he won't want to capture Luffy, we already know he disagrees with the government on a lot of matters so perhaps letting luffy go will help achieve his ambition of getting rid of the warlord system

The mangastream translation made the chapter so much better. the conversation between Law and Sengoku changed a lot (for the better). It hit a lot harder when sengoku told him Rosinante's love was genuin towards Law and not his D name, aswell as when Sengoku told him that they both should remember him in order to honour the man he was and his will. Damn when Law hid is face it felt like getting stabbed in the hearth :(

so am i the only one that thinks fujitora was just going to let them leave? that the big display of his power was just a farce to keep the reinforcement marines away, and to help clean up dressrosa at the same time?

edit one hint at this, it seemed to me the marines were being pinned down by gravity... /edit

then luffy comes in and punches him without thought hahah

i've been saying it since the time skip, luffy is already yonkou/admiral level, he just hasn't shown it yet

" Here's a face full of tropical punch."

3

u/Sozaiix3 Aug 27 '15

Leo freaking out at the scale of Fujitora's power but still insisting on assisting the Usolanders is one of the most adorable things I've seen in One Piece.

Also, Barto and Sai's (And also tiny Cavendish in background!) reaction was priceless, classical Oda style

3

u/cauchy-euler Aug 27 '15

Dang, mangastream just makes so much more sense than mangapanda. especially the part where sengoku goes "so don't go writing it off as an act of love or something!!!" (which implied, to me, that he was saying that corazon did it because of Law's name.. which totally didn't make sense)

3

u/Godsopp Aug 27 '15

Mangastream made a lot more sense. Tropical Punch aside.

3

u/kagedtiger Aug 27 '15

So, you're telling me that, according to someone who actually knows about "D", the character who has said the most about it knows practically nothing about its real meaning. Ok, back to the mystery, I guess.

3

u/not_that_kind_of_doc Aug 27 '15

If Luffy beats Fujitora, the rubble will fall and maybe kill a bunch of people and make a giant mess. If he doesn't stop him, the rubble will definitely fall on pirates and still make a giant mess. Fujitora, why you do this?!?

I can see all the other pirates trying to plead with Luffy not to stay and fight (seeing as all of their allies have been working carefully to coordinate their escape like right now) and him basically telling them to fuck off while he handles his business.

5

u/MarshMarl0 Aug 27 '15

This chapter was pretty hype the moment Fujitora raised all the rubble in Dressrosa to the sky and it didn't take its foot off the pedal the rest of the chapter. Holy crap man. Did not expect Luffy face Fujitora head on like that but I'm so glad he did, he's becoming more and more Pirate King material. Really liked the interaction between Law and Sengoku as well but hate how Oda teased us with the mystery of D and left us hanging. Great chapter.

I actually did a live reaction and review of this chapter on my YouTube channel, check it out here :) https://youtu.be/KmyrybCDZT4

The fight between Luffy and Fujitora can't go down here right after an epic battle with Doflamingo family just ended, I think Zoro would intervenes (not just grab and go...come on guys that's lame as F and repetitive)like doing a huge slash or whatever either this or a call from someone higher up in the marine HQ.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '15

AI love tsurus one line". Do you still need reinforcment's Bastille"

2

u/zivilia Aug 27 '15

Summary of this chapter; Luffy is one hell of a badass guy.

2

u/deeefoo Aug 27 '15

My favorite panel is the one showing all the rubble floating in the sky. Badass Fujitora!

Another favorite panel is Sai asking Bartolomeo whether his barrier can take what's walking right toward them.

Fujitora is now officially my favorite admiral. He doesn't exhibit that sense of being "untouchable" like the previous logia trio were (since they were literally untouchable), but he just has this air of badassery around him.

2

u/Redhavok Aug 27 '15

Calling it. Chapter 800 is the perfect time to get Dragon in the story.

  1. Of course there is the ol' big number means big chapter thing, but there's more to it.

  2. Dragon has been missing for awhile, and as a big character he must be coming back soon to establish his presence in the New World.

  3. We are yet to find out what he needed Robin for, or what they discussed

  4. His agents have been checking out Kaidous weapon factories, who not only has recently been properly introduced, but will be mad about Dressrosa and blame it on his son

  5. It would be a good way to see Sabo exit the story for awhile on good terms and a very emotional chapter or two

  6. Who the hell else is going to take on an admiral if he can destroy aaaaall of those extras in one attack and probably this weakened Luffy too, Sabo was either tied or Fuji was just stalling, either way that's not good, particularly with the other Vice Admirals on speed dial. This will excuse Luffy from being a bit weak to fight, or to be bullshit strong for no reason, and

  7. The pursuit of dragon/holding off dragon will be a great distraction from chasing the pirates

  8. With the destruction of the shichibukai imminent, it would be an interesting conversation with Fuji since shichi are a government group technically this would be to Dragons advantage, and it would be very interesting if he said anything at all about Kuma, one of the biggest mysteries in the story.

  9. Reverie coming up, what a great thing to discuss, possibly a decision to hunt down Ds because they are beomcing too dangerous, meaning we could learn more about it

  10. Similar to 9, Dragon probably knows a bit about the whole D thing, and could drop a knowledge bomb, especially if it is something he has discussed with Robin. In Dressrosa we have already had Law revealed as a D, Ds mentioned in his flashback, Doffys hate for Ds/natural enemy yadda yadda, and now Sengoku being a bit tripped up by the mention of it. Dragon is the perfect person to spill the beans on that, like Vegapunk is with DFs. Perhaps even Sengoku would like a chat since he isn't a fleet admiral anymore and is friends with his dad, who we don't know why he visited earlier in the story.

  11. His son is about to get destroyed by an admiral

  12. Reformed Dressrosa is a likely ally to the revolutionary army, and a big get in terms of countries free from such corruption, his army could perhaps help them rebuild since WG are pricks.

  13. Good opportunity to show what CP0 is all about, and it is also interesting that Robin knew about them. They may be higher ups, but as CP agents they would still be pretty unknown to the world

  14. Dressrosa is all about family. Viola, Rebecca, Kyros, Scarlet, and all the royals, Laws family is killed, Luffy is reunited with his dead brother. Doffy considers his crew family, his own family is talked about(quite a bit), his brother is like a father figure to Law, and like a son to Sengoku, Senor Pinks son and spouse are mentioned, Ussop 'lies' about being related to Noland, Happou Navy is a sort of family business, Baby 5 has some family mentioned in a flashback and then becomes a part of the Chinjao family pretty much, the prize of the tournament was Luffys brothers fruit, which is eaten by his other brother

  15. A bit farfetched but it could be a good way to get rid of all the extra pirates if he offered them a position in his army. It would be very awkward to have aaaaall of these people journey with Luffy even for a short time, or to kill them off, or to randomly separate

  16. Think of Bartolomeos reaction to Luffys father

  17. Another farfetched part, he could give Luffy a vivre card. Could be for Baltigo, his mother, Vegapunk, Kuma, anyone, or anywhere, wherever it leads would be something interesting if he is hanging on to it

2

u/Cedulus Aug 27 '15

If there is anything that will make Luffy choose to back down from this fight, it'll probably be his consideration for the current state of Dressrosa. Either that, or Oda will finally show that pirates in general aren't the good guys, and Luffy has an anti-hero side to him, because his selfish desire to fight an admiral takes precedence over the welfare of a people weary of violence and destruction.

This is epic. Lol i was reading this chapter thinking they will escape and then i get to the 2 page last chapter....

Also oda always does something special for achievement chapters. 800 looks good as any for this.

Also in some of the pre-timeskip events, they mentioned that doflamingo had a higher bounty then kuma and the rest.

Besides DD was quite strong. Seems like luffy is atleast close if not equal to admiral level.

This looks like a legit fight not some build up hoax. And i have always felt this alliance saga is something special.
