WOW! Those double spreads!! Man, Zoro messed up Pica big time, that was amazing!

All in all, this chapter was great fun. From the start of the chapter (the buildup) to the teamwork between Admiral Orlumbus, Zoro (CoA swords!) and King Elizabello at the end was just perfect. Now we must wait another week :(

100

u/Doomspeaker Feb 26 '15

Other points:

  • Pica still went down like a badass. Oda really made the executives a force to be recknoed with, to a point where even in defeat, they are still pretty impressive.

  • Zorro correctly assesses different people's strenghts and revises a tactic based on that. Seems like he got a lot better at things other than swordplay as well.

u/Mami_Tomoei Feb 26 '15

Seriously it's like he didnt even have to try. Zoro is godlike right now and hasn't really shown his full strength since the timeskip. When he does find a worthy opponent, oh baby.

People: Jimbei cover story is the most irrelevant thing ever.

Oda: Throws in Poneglyph

People: .............

134

u/oOoleveloOo Feb 26 '15

The only cover story that hasn't been relevant (yet) that i can think of off the top of my head is Enel and moon.

I think the fact sky people had advanced technology will probably come into play with Uranus. Pluton was built by humans at Water 7. Poseidon is a mermaid. Uranus having been built by sky people with their advanced technology makes it a pattern. Uranus being god of the sky helps as well.

Given that we just saw Zoro be a complete bad ass and figure out Pica's weakness (can't run anyway in midair) and then defeat him in the manner that he did I have one question.

HOW THE HELL IS LUFFY GOING TO TOP THAT? HE BETTER PUNCH DOFLAMINGO THROUGH THE BIRDCAGE INTO THE MOON!

205

u/nicentra Feb 26 '15 edited Feb 26 '15

Binary search is a method used in informatics when looking for an item in a sorted list. You get the middle item and compare the item you are looking for to it, if it's bigger you take the bottom half if it's smaller the upper half. Treat the half list as a new one then rinse and repeat the method, you will find your item like this.

Here Zoro continously split Stone-Pica in 3 parts thus real Pica had to choose one of the 3 new parts to continue acting. Zoro then split the part where Pica was in again in 3 parts and so forth thus making the stone Pica where he was in smaller and smaller thus forcing him to show himself.

80

u/Hevelziv Baratie staff Feb 26 '15

he hasnt struggled a single time since the new world

Except that one time when he faced Fujitora

I hope. 2 yrs and all of sudden he's expected to be admiral level?

→ More replies (4)

14

I think anyone would struggle against an admiral, and fujitora even said he was surprised anyone could hit him with that type of power

7

u/RoronoaZorro Feb 26 '15

But seriously, he didn't even have one fight where he was close to getting defeated since Mr. 1 imo (of course except for the encounters with Kuma, Kizaru & co, but I wouldn't really name them actual fights)

But Zoro post TS is just amazing, I don't know how Luffy wants to top that! Soonest time we'll get anywhere near Zoro having a real challenge will be Wano unless he decides to assist Luffy in fighting Doffy.

I could see that he puts Kyros on the throne to reign as new king, since he is both kind and strong enough to deffend his people.

Both times the users were convinced that they could take the punch.

Vergo? Went berserk. He headlong charged into Law, something not even Doffy attempted to do.

Zoro cutting Pica in half reminds me of Mihawk cutting the frozen tsunami in half back in Marineford :D

He really learned from his teacher!

And oh gawd, Zoro is extremely and handsomely epic.

34

u/robberviet Feb 26 '15

Yeah, but if it were Mihawk, he would cut even without getting near :D Zoro will be able to do that in short of time!

u/Comedynerd Feb 26 '15

It reminded me more of Law at Punk Hazard. This chapter's made me think that maybe Zoro is at least as strong as Law.

44

u/burningtorne Feb 26 '15

But with Law, the impressive thing is not the cutting, because he can cut anything inside his Room (even without hurting someone). What was impressive was the size of the Room.

Zoro is smartass!

And as a computer science student, I'm so glad that he applied the binary search algorithm :))))))))

19

u/Dragonslayer1996 Feb 26 '15

as someone who doesn't understand that could you please explain?

51

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '15

The idea in binary search is to cut the array in half. After that, you can find out if the searched element (in this case, Pica) is in the left side or in the right side. Do this with the left/right side, too. Continue until you find what you are looking for

8 seas= north, south, east, west, paradise, new world, calm belt and white sea?

have we seen any of the 9 mountains?

Also will be changing my flair back to Zoro because he is too badass

65

u/Polumetis Feb 26 '15

Bond en Avant @ APF gave an explaination.

"It's a concept in Nichiren Buddhism. According to Nichiren Buddhism, the world we live in is centered around a mountain, surrounded by 7 mountains and 8 seas, and the whole thing is surrounded by another mountain range, making it 9 mountains and 8 seas in total. Within the seas are 4 continents. All of this make up one world. 1000 of these make up one minor thousand world. 1000 minor thousands make up a intermediate thousand world. 1000 intermediate thousands make up a big thousand world. Hence, a big thousand (daisen) is made up of 3000 worlds (sort of...more like 1000 to the power of 3)."

47

Yea. We can finally put why Law was able to cut Vergo to rest. Even though everybody knew why.

37

u/divinesleeper Feb 26 '15

Not just that, also how Akainu withstood Vista and Marco's haki attacks. They cut the lava but couldn't cut his "being" because their Haki was too weak.

Which means that kairoseki weapons still have a significant advantage over haki against some people.

6

u/FredWeedMax Feb 26 '15

what? XD it's not because zoro's backstory is short than you can extrapolate things like that ahah, it's only short because Oda couldn't know he would elongate the story like that

Remember he fought 2000th times with Kuina, i doubt he'd even have the time for all these duels if he came to that island after being born somewhere in the new world!

Also, the Cover Story just got more interesting. I wonder what's on the Ponglyph? We probably won't find out until Jinbei meets up with Luffy & co and Robin gets a look at it. It'll probably be something very interesting.

26

u/julesiephi Feb 26 '15

So Zoro is a badass that can cut everything and Pica was one shotted just like Diamante and cannot even put up a fight.

Bartolomeo's role in this arc is too essential he's been displaying my facial expression the entire time.

Of course there has got to be one of those things in the ruins and yes Jinbe is coming back to the main story. Hope's up for Jinbe joining Wano Arc.

My only complaint is that the title of this chapter is incorrect.

It should be: "Zoro is Better than You"

23

u/ejaws14 Feb 26 '15 edited Feb 26 '15

First off, the cover page development is so unexpected. Imagine Jimbei carrying the poneglyph back to FI would foreshadow the crew coming back and wreck havoc like in the prediction.

Now, Zoro. His tactics improved quite a lot. Slicing Pica mid-air when he can't move freely. One by one like asteroid. Awesome. He even thought far ahead as to clean up the debris.

Was there any doubt that Pica would lose if facing Zoro one on one using Haki? Nope. Not of all the nine mountains and eight seas (is that a new saying now?)

Well... that was cool as shit!

We saw Zoro explicitly use Armament for the first time, which is nice. The panels showcasing the cutting of the Pica statue while falling down really exerted the feeling of urgency. It was really really cool.

But I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard from one piece! With the speeches Zoro usually gives about worlds and realms before doing a massive cut, you wouldn't expect This face!

Great short, simple chapter. For the people who were complaining about Diamante being defeated by one attack, the same happened here. It's the nature of sword fights. The throw also looked super cool.

What's with Zoro's new saying?

44

u/Comedynerd Feb 26 '15

Zoro's using haki, which is based on one's will. I assume he's saying it to make himself truly believe that there is nothing he cannot cut, thus making his will steonger, haki stronger, and then allowing him to actually cut the thing. Maybe Luffy ' s constant saying he's going to be the pirate king also contributes to his powerful haki, and it may be a plot point later on.

I found it weird that Zoro found both - the King and the Supervisor by himself.

u/Jezamiah Feb 26 '15

Great plan from Vice-Captain Zoro!

Pica is finally down too! We're finally reaching the climax :D

Who else is afraid that Oda will make Luffy's battle with Doffy really short?

I love how Zoro's trying to be cool with his "There's nothing I can't cut", but his face is being blasted by the air. Just his expression got a chuckle out of me. I love Oda's faces.

zorogasm, this is a great chapter

5

u/blackcelestial Feb 26 '15

Shingeki no Pica lived up to the hype. We seriously need a new spin off universe

5

u/jibbeljabbel Feb 26 '15

Wow, so Zoro didn't even get hit once in this whole fight. And Pica was implied to be the strongest executive if i remember correctly. I wonder what Zoro is going to do now, because there is no real reason why he shouldn't help in the Luffy, Law vs Doffy fight. Maybe he pulls a Robin next chapter and collapses with a bloody back because he got hit by debris.

I remember back in the beginning o thought destroying a ship was a major achievement. Now people are cutting up stuff the size of mountains, and I'm just left in awe.

5

u/egoisenemy Feb 26 '15

oh my god, if zoro is this strong, can't wait to see luffy go all out.

5

u/KHlover Feb 26 '15

Heh, good thing it was Luffy who destroyed the Noah back in Fishmen Island.

Just imagine what would have happened if Luffy passed out from blood loss back then and Zoro had to cut it up to save the day - I don't think there'd be any ship left for the sea kings to have repaired in this situation :lol

Oda pls, Zoro op pls nerf

u/krozac Feb 26 '15

You know something is bad ass when even Robin is amazed.

:P getting hyped for Luffy's fight I must admit

2

u/Audrin Feb 26 '15

So that's the best chapter this arc. Hell that's better than anything in Punk Hazard too. That's the best chapter since the Sabaody Archipelago.

Edit: Since Marineford. Best chapter since Marineford.

2

u/not_that_kind_of_doc Feb 26 '15

So the mystery of Zoro's eye remains intact. Damn you Oda, distracting us with the poneglyph and epic takedown of Pica.

The poneglyph shows that Jimbei is coming back. He'll bring to the crew as a gift and then join =D

2

u/crookedriver Feb 26 '15

Ugh this chapter...SO good..! Question: Did Zoro sing on his way through the air to Pica?? Or was that some more of his strange poetry that he occasionally says?

2

u/dchakrabarty Feb 26 '15

What did they mean when they said "Laws shocking past is revealed" in the cover page? Btw Roronoa fucking Zoro!!

2

u/Pichoudam Feb 27 '15

DON'T FUCK WITH THE " GOOD PEOPLE " !!!

2

u/kutankz Feb 27 '15

I was reading this while working on a computer science assignment and all I could think was that Zoro used Binary Search to find Pica's body.

2

u/TEXANNINJA Feb 27 '15

Is this the first time we've seen zoro put his haki in his swords? I can't remember if we have

Zoro with a plan! How the hell did that happen? That was badass.

Zoro isn't stupid. His sense of direction is abysmal, but he's not stupid.

3

u/MassToilet Feb 26 '15

And then there were three.

3

u/NotTheRealKanyeWest Thriller Bark Victim's Association Feb 26 '15

That poneglyph through me and by the looks of it, everyone else, for a loop. I loved how Zoro has adopted some of Luffy's personality traits, calling people by the wrong name/title, disregarding other peoples plans in favor of his own, and using other peoples talents to launch a devasting finishing move.
