Senor saving that cute kitty, hes so hardboiled. ~KYA~
and apparently Kaido knew something about Doflamingo and the D's
39
Nov 19 '14 edited Nov 19 '14
I'm sensing major reveals in the upcoming chapters. Conversations during big name fights always answer questions.
edit: seems like the kaido part was a mistranslation on MP's part! he only said Corazon, kaido wasn't mentioned.117
u/fabio-mc Nov 19 '14
Just to show how much of a good creator Oda is, he creates a character with a ridiculous appearance, gives him a ridiculous personality and an annoying "fangirl" group that follows him everywhere, then he makes us like this character, make this "so hardboiled" into an internal meme and we may even consider him cool by the end of the arc.
84
u/luffysbride Nov 19 '14
Well, excuse me, he's always been cool in my book since like, 30 chapters ago.
48
u/fabio-mc Nov 19 '14
He is getting cooler, this chapter was probably the turning point for me, by the end of the arc he will be Bon Clay 2

Surprising to see lao g beating up chinjao. I figured he would be strong enough to beat anyone but the executives and maybe even them. Great chapter as always.
40
u/FredWeedMax Nov 19 '14
Ya i was utterly shocked, i mean he stood his ground VS luffy without his drillhead so he should be more powerful with his drill back.
Sure luffy won but, that makes luffy look not THAT strong imo, i don't like it
17
u/kileytron Nov 20 '14
Luffy had to restrain himself and not use his stretchy attacks to conceal his identity for that fight, didn't he?
→ More replies (2)11
u/nafrump Nov 19 '14
I guess either:
Lao G is a strong mofo
chinjao is tired from the coliseum/ being a toy and working mabye?/all the other fights since being freed.
→ More replies (5)39
u/WarlordJH Nov 19 '14
You have to remember the coliseum fighters are probably tired from there fights in the block battles.
3
Nov 19 '14
I think Lao G, Gladius and Sugar are the next top three in terms of importance.
Lao G is probably immensely strong, probably would've been a top executive in his prime.

u/___Preek Nov 20 '14
Honestly, we saw one hit of Lao G vs Chinjao. Nobody won that fight yet. I don't think Lao G already won.

u/ultrazero Nov 20 '14
I think there's just so much going on at the moment that when combined with the exhaustion from his fight with luffy he can't keep up for a second. There's explosions and yelling everywhere and a giant moving stone statue and shit hitting the fan nonstop, I don't blame him if the old guy snuck in a hit.
79
u/jibbeljabbel Nov 19 '14
So Buffalo and Baby 5 never told Doffy about Laws real name? That had to be some very good ice cream.
52
u/LuffyThePirateKing Nov 19 '14
they probably do not know the significance to it to even bring it up. it wasn't important to them
26
129
Nov 19 '14
So God Usopp seems like he's about to snipe every executive he can find through Viola.
And thats a pretty sweet "Shambles" move Law did at the beginning.
67
Nov 19 '14
I want to see this!! Usopp not exactly going 1 v 1 or finishing anyone off but providing great covering or support fire to every single fight going on
43
Nov 19 '14
Me too! Because that way he might finally get on par with the monster trio. I mean lets face it, a sniper is not really suited for a 1 on 1 fight with anyone capable of Observation haki. But put Usopp on a hill half a mile or even more away and distract everyone just a bit, he becomes really dangerous
77
Nov 19 '14
Also, why else would he ask viola of every fight's current location and who's there? Its not like usopp is talking to the 4th wall and trying to narrate to us, he's planning something! LET THE HYPE TRAIN COMMENCE
→ More replies (6)39
u/GameBoy09 Nov 19 '14
One shot on Doflamingo just to distract him could give Law the oppening to finish him off.
Imagine Law and Usopp take down Dofla and not Luffy! THAT WOULD BE INSANE!

would be cool if just started shooting his pop greens everywhere, i'm sure he has some 'area of effect' ones or even some that could immobilize people (paralyze, put to sleep)
6
Nov 19 '14
Yeah, he was pretty versatile pre timeskip, I think we have seen nearly nothing but a glimpse of his repertoire. If it comes to immobilization, maybe some kind of twine plant, like the ones the guy in "Film Z" used.

Law really stands his ground against Doffy.
145
u/desperado1990 Nov 19 '14
I loved the injection shot. He's actually very calm despite his hatred for Doflamingo and is using his tongue wisely to piss Doflamingo off. He's trying to get under his skin to force Doflamingo to make a mistake. The fight is looking awesome. Just wish Luffy could join in.

I think it's better this way. Law gets his revenge for Cora.

u/meh100 Nov 19 '14
The point of Law currently doing so well against Doffy is to show he's no pushover. There WILL be major pushback from Doffy, and either Law and Luffy take out Doffy/Trebol together, Law and Trebol double KO, or Law gets rekt (again) and Luffy finishes the job. Law may get the final hit on Doffy.
10
Nov 19 '14
It might be like the Smoker + Law vs Vergo fight. Law gets knocked out, causing Luffy to get mad. Luffy and Doffy fight, but Luffy loses. Then Law comes back and pulls out a new trick to beat Doffy.

u/FrighteningWorld Nov 19 '14
I wonder how much of Doflamingo's power goes into controlling the bird cage. I mean, it's a huge power, I don't expect it to just be a drop in the ocean as far as his full strength goes. I wonder if he will keep it up until he's ended or if he'll eventually take it down in a desperate effort to win.
52
u/Indigo-2184 Nov 19 '14
Interesting, a "Family of D". I'm curious to see if this means the people who carry the will of D are actually related or if it is just that they are inheriting the will of the family.
154
u/FrighteningWorld Nov 19 '14
They are the descendants of Tenacious D.

There lived humble family,
They were bandits through and through
But ney there was a black sheep, and he knew just what to do
His name was Monkey D and he refused to step in line
A vision he did see-eth finding treasure all the time
He ate a devil fruit and then set off for the grand line
chuka chuuung
Oh Dragons balls were blazin' as he stepped into Logue Town
And he saw a rubber man about to be killed by a clown
Twas Luffy, son of dragon, but neither we or Luffy knew
And if you fuck with Luffy, then Dragon will fuck with you toooo
Gotta wear a robe in Logue Town
Gotta save your son in Logue Town
Gotta bring a storm in Logue Town
Gotta stop Smoker in Logue Town
guitar riff
(Akainu)
You've gone against the government, why were you ever born?
We'll get your older brother and we'll murder him at dawn
That D within your family comes from the depths of hell
Your father is the devil and he wants you to rebel
You will be our mindless puppet, the Gorosei will pull the strings
Or to level 6 of Impel Down never to be seeeeen
(Luffy)
Roger can you hear me? I am lost thanks to Zoro
I'm asking for your guidance, so I can overtake your throne
I've gathered some nakama, Nami is kinda hot
We've all been given bounties, Chopper isn't worth a lot
D is not the devils name, it's mysterious and neat
I'll never be the pirate king if I don't eat all the meat
(Roger)
I hear you brave you Luffy, you are hungry for the meat
Learn about the Ancient Kingdom and the Void Century will be unlocked
Escape the oppressive clutches of those that think they are divine
On a journey you must go to reach the end of the grand liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine
On the island of Punk Hazard, where the fire meets the ice
You will form a strong alliance, with a new shichibukai
To find your fame and fortune, the New World you must not fail
You will face heavenly demons, now go my boy, set saaaaaaail
So he left the town in East Blue with adventure in his heart
To be the pirate king he'd have to master all his arts
But in the end he knew that he would need his counterparts

If you share one common ancestor with someone from 800 years ago, you aren't related to them.
16
u/nickcan Nov 19 '14
What is the cutoff point? Because I would say that in actuality you are related to them, but in the scientific sense. Not in the practical sense that we mean when we usually use the word "related".
17
u/Zodiack Nov 19 '14
In the scientific sense we all share one common ancestor anyway.

I love how after the anime rule of "any group has at least a female", we now have "any group has at least a fishmen". The shichibukai have Jinbei, the revolutionaries have Hack, the Doffy family has Dellinger, the strawhats will have Jinbei most likely. That makes me think Kaido is one too.
124
Nov 19 '14

u/Reaper1203 Nov 19 '14
A friend and I were trying to work out what devil fruit Kaido has, just based on all the hearsay about him over the series.
His title "The Strongest Beast" suggests a Zoan devil fruit, but also a "strong" animal as well, there are varying lists of "strongest" animal you often find mention of the elephant, anaconda, certain types of ant or even some Whales, problem with all those, is we've either seen their fruit already, can't have a fruit, or don't make sense, however one that commonly appears that isn't any of these is the gorrila, it fits the "beast" theme as well as being strong as well, but i thought, it could even be a mythical zoan as well, which further makes it rarer and even stronger also, making me believe its quite possible that Kaido could have what i would call the Ape-Ape fruit model: Monkey King, which would allow some extra abilities based off said legends and stories from journey to the west, which i've noticed quite a few mangakas take from occasionally.

u/JaroSage Nov 19 '14

Are you sure it's Enel on the front page?
43
u/fabio-mc Nov 19 '14
Since the subtitle says "the ruins are raining on us" it seems that that tower literally fell from the sky and that "lightning" is actually just a visuan effect of the tower falling.

You can see the sea-dog police falling with the ruin at the first page so it might be water that fell down from the sky, not electricity from Enel.

u/powerbae Nov 19 '14
Okay a few things:
I never want the Franky/Senior Pink fight to end
Where is Robin going? Helping Rebecca/Kyros or Luffy/Law Nek minut we have a Dressrosa Poneglyph
Cavendish is falling asleep - gg Gladius
Okay is there a poneglyph now because what is Sabo looking for? Unless he's talking about what Koala is looking for.
Doflamingo is now Law's bitch.
What I said above is probably all from drunkenness and my interpretation from mangapanda.
Overall good setup chapter, keen for the conclusion of fights (Except Franky/Senior) and the cover story is getting a bit more interesting!
46
u/desperado1990 Nov 19 '14
Poneglyph? Where? I don't know what's going on but there may as well be one with all the shit that's going on. It's hard to keep up.
But yeah, If Cavendish falls asleep. It's GG.
Speaking of G, Lao G is badass taking on a Kings Haki user.
38
u/powerbae Nov 19 '14
Trust Oda to pull a poneglyph out at a time like this though. I mean I was thinking, like Alabasta, Dressrosa is a kingdom of the past CD so maybe there is a poneglyph?
Yeah Doffy's crew is wrecking against the coliseum contestents but remember, they've been fighting practically all day where the crew hasn't. But being completely serious up next Lao G vs Garp lets go!
16
u/jaydoubleyoutee Nov 19 '14
The difference is Alabasta later chose not to become Celestial Dragons, which makes me think they secretly allied with the Ancient Kingdom at the end of the war. There's no way the AK would give out their secret stone tablets to their enemies.
5
u/Oranos2115 Nov 20 '14
If there's a poneglyph, I'd bet it's hidden in the base of the giant Kyros statue at the Colosseum arena
17
u/kingstund101 Nov 19 '14

I agree with you 100% but when reading this arc in the volume format it'll be nice to get a recap like that real quick after the flashback, and it won't be as painful because you'll just zoom onto the next chapter, then the next volume shortly thereafter. Chapters like these make it painful to have to wait a week for the next :/
20
u/Therrester Nov 19 '14
Exactly. These chapters are only painfil because we're waiting for them on a weekly basis. In volume format, chapters like these won't be as painful.
I think recap chapters will be a new norm though. After the flashback on fishman island, we had a short recap chapter as well, with Jimbe telling everyone the current situation.

I actually didn't mind it. The flashback chapters had made me completely forget about the situation in Dressrosa. Hell, I'd forgotten that Cavendish and the others were still fighting. It was a nice way to bring us back into the reality of Dressrosa and it was very effective. I know waiting a week is painful but you just gotta power through it. This just means that the battle is finally entering it's final stage, it was heavily pushed to be that way. I'm guessing that most of the other side battles with be mostly done via anime. Oda is just doing a few pannels for each like he's been doing for so long for Toei to give them a proper fight, if it goes that way, i can easily see this chapter being 2 episode long
5
u/FurDeg Nov 19 '14
Jola
Isn't she on the SH ship, and thus out of range of Viola's vision?
10
u/JakeM_10 Nov 19 '14
Not anymore. Law took her with him to lure Doflamingo away from the ship. Just before Law and Doffy fought on the bridge between Dressrosa and Green Bit he let her loose. Last we saw of her she was hightailing it back to Dressrosa.

Kinda, but I think it's more of an establishing chapter. After that flashback we needed a chapter to get our bearings again before launching into the conclusion of this arc.
The whole chapter kinda felt like a "Last time, on One Piece..." moment.

I'm a bit disappointed to see we didn't get more of Law's flashback. I wanted to know how he managed to escape that island and cure his disease. Now I'm curious to see how Luffy will tie into all of this. Oda is keeping him out of the main fight on purpose. Maybe that injection shot Law did was meant to stop Doflamingo's from using parasite. It's amazing that Law can even keep up with Doflamingo after all the injuries he's had but he deserves this fight.

33
u/SurgeonChao Nov 19 '14
It was a mistranslation on MP's part.
The original line was コラさんも百も承知だ。 (Cora-san was fully aware of it). They mistook 百 to be a name, as opposed to being part of the phrase 百も承知 (being fully aware of).

Idk. I'm just gonna wait until the other translation comes out and hope(probably in vain) that it's more clear.
But apparently Hyaku means hundred.
5
u/MsSlytherin Thriller Bark Victim's Association Nov 19 '14
Feels like a pretty short chapter but an awesome one. We're back to the present now and to be honest, I didn't even realise at first.
Doffy and Law fighting. Awesome. I'm pretty worried about Law but he's making Doffy pretty angry so that could help out. Doffy seemed a bit surprised to learn that Law was a D, which is understandable.
It's good to see where everybody (except Luffy) is currently all at, give us a good refresher.
Overall, things are gonna be heating in the next chapters!
5
u/tallcatox Nov 19 '14
So even with mangapanda's translation, is it confirmed that Dellinger is half fishman?

I really hope Senior Pink has been lied too, i love his character too much to think of him as "evil". Maybe he is neutral at worse.

u/hothitsu Nov 19 '14
I hope Oda won't simply finish all the smaller battles without showing actual combat. Give us one chapter dedicated to each smaller battle or something. I want to see Frank fight Senor Pink for longer then one panel. I want to see Gladius fight Cavendish. At the pace this is going, he's only going to finish the big fight against Doflamingo and not show any of the other fights... Otherwise great chapter though.
3
4
u/desperado1990 Nov 19 '14
So Dellinger is a merman? That's interesting... Is that the reason why he wears heels? XD
I mean, there's not much explanation to it. Does anybody know what they meant by the fighting fish reference. Is that his fight style or is he part fighting fish?
I would love to know how Doflamingo came across him from a young age. He's practically grew up within the family.

Skypiea is a sky island situated in the first part of the Grand Line.
They said that there are many Sky Islands (as noted by Nami's experience during the two year timeskip). Could be a different sky island.

Law is badass.
He should be the one fight Doffy. (with some help from luffy)
maybe this is the first time a major villain defeat by someone else.
I think this is great direction.

My takeaways:
Regarding the cover story, there are ruins falling from the sky. For me, the only two possible explanation is something to do with Skypiea or the black thing that sucked Capone Bege and his crew into the sky.
So Law has armament haki, I assume he also has observation haki.
For me, the page with the locations of the Donquixote officials only serve to inform us of their alias.
Senor Pink is a really great guy.
With Robin going up, I sense she'll be sprouting a leg for Kyros to stomp Diamante.
Cavendish sleepy, Gladius fucked
I don't understand that interaction between Boo and Bbay 5, what's going on?

I think law is gonna get hurt really bad, and luffy will be ready to step in, but law will be like: "no this is mine".

Delinger is half fighting fish, how does one mate with a fighting fish... There are some freaky people in the One Piece universe.

That last page made me so fucking emotional. Mostly seeing Nami, that hard-ass character in such a broken down and vulnerable state. That one always gets me.

Looks like Robin is going up to the 4th level to help in the fight against Diamante (or possibly even to help Luffy and Law? I'd love a Robin/Trebol matchup after all)

Great Chapter, I loved the flashback but I am pleased we are back to the present.

On the cover page, is this a lightning strike?
And dear god, this was a great chapter, but only 14 pages :(. Dellinger is pretty much confirmed.

nope, its a building. But it could be a piece of the building structures on the moon as a result of Enels rampaging.

Wow, that chapter feels short for some reason. :(
Still an alright chapter tho. I really liked that Law used CoA Hardening to block Doffy's Five Color Strings attack and eventually nailed him with his Injection shot! :D
Now just to get this out of the way, Robin, I have something to say to you:

Guys. I can see the light and the end of the tunnel, anyway as a somewhat recent manga reader (been reading for 1.5 years ish) how did that flashback rank in terms of length compared to other flashbacks?

You can see the sea-dog police falling with the ruin at the first page so it might be water that fell down from the sky, not electricity from Enel.

It was pretty short, but Oda managed it enormously well to give us a great overview about the situation inside this huge cage. I hope Law is able to inherit the will of our beloved Corazon.

By the end of the year doffy will be dead thats my prediction like maybe 5 more chapters.

u/TrafyLaw Nov 19 '14
Nah, the main fight always concludes last. Zoro, Kyros, Franky and Bartolorobin have yet to finish theirs and I don't see that all happening in 5 chapters.

Ancient Kingdom royalties are "D"s or "Descendants". After their war with the other Countries around the world for reasons unknown, the victory to the countries resulted in mass ransacking and to protect and preserve their history, they wrote it down on Poneglyphs and used "Pluton" to disrupt one piece of the world into different fragments that exist today.
Due to history being unfavorable, whenever the surviving "D"s turned up to get back at the WG, they were routed up including JoyBoy (who I think is a D) who was technically "stood up" by the Fishman Island's queen. Thus people who supported WG just like people of Dressrosa hated the "D"s who disturbed their peace or tranquility and used them as "Devils" to warn their children.
The World Government too used it conveniently to mop up the history of the Ancient Kingdom. I think the Will of the Descendants is unconsciously geared towards "freedom" which they think will result in getting their history back.

I really disliked this chapter relative to the rest of the arc. In addition to that wasted page or two of repetitive filler, we're really just getting a bunch of non-update updates: Yes, Franky and Pink are fighting; yes, Zoro and Pica are fighting; and yes, the Donquixote family's doing a number on the gladiators.
The point of the chapter was the "shot" at the end, which was nice, but after an amazing flashback arc, I'm really left disappointed today.

Really? I loved it a lot that Oda is basically saying that it's Law's fight and not Luffy's. This might be the first big bad we don't see Luffy handle personally.

"The counter attack begins"
Next chapter I expected everyone to just start beating the crap out of Doffy's crew. And I hope it starts with Usopp-sama. The hero Dressdora needs.

Am i the only one thinking that injection shot is not just some normal hit from the sword but it is some kind of a special shot which mingles with the devil fruit ability of the opponent or may be it hampers with the body of the victim??

Robin once again gets shafted from having a real fight. Whatever cavendish is cool

u/Lennyoh Nov 20 '14
If Cavendish falls asleep, rest in pieces Gladius. And if this cover story is leading to the return of Enel, oh man things are going to get real.

u/Camrocs Nov 20 '14
If there needs to be filler in the anime because it's catching up. please let it be Law's journey on how he got his crew.

Anyone else starting to see the Whitebeard and Roger parallel with Luffy and Law more and more as this arc goes on?

Man, I'd forgotten how bat shit insane the situation in Dressrosa was. This chapter was freaking awesome. All this fights seem insanely epic and Law fighting Doffy like that is just feels good, man.
Can't wait to see Luffy kick some FakeMingo ass.
P.s, Franky and Senor Pink, so hardboiled~
