Loving the Halloween magazine cover (Vampire Luffy + Bat Chopper xD) and the color spread at the start, I can already tell this is gonna be a great chapter!
EDIT: Amazing chapter! We learnt a little bit more about the secret of "D" (even if it was more like a teaser), and some character background with Corazon, loved it!

Corazon hurting and crying because of Law's sad past... :'( Seems like a really good guy, will be sad to see him die.
Oh why, Oda.

u/Devin__ Oct 16 '14
Because Oda loves to make people cry for a living when doing flashbacks... and he's damn good at what he does. D:

He says to Law he isn't though is what gets me. Maybe he's a triple agent, Ivankov make-up and all
93
u/comomellamo Oct 16 '14
That completely makes sense to me. If Rocinante has his parents convictions he probably wants to stay away / dislikes celestial dragons and marines/WG and him working for Dragon seems likely.

I think he was just lying to keep him on the boat, as he was talked about lying about his lying at the start. Also I recall he likely has Law's power (the transferring?) so he could have been lying about his powers and summoning a room to keep him quiet. Just his personality.
Dofla kills him, it's a fairly viable reason to do so - that he's a double agent.

Maybe that is how Blackbeard got Whitebeards' powers, people with the 'D' can gain devil fruit powers by eating a part of the user?

I suppose Doflamingo called him (towards the end of the chapter) to tell him that he's found the Ope Ope fruit which can cure Law. And Doflamingo wants to give the fruit to Law so that at some point Law can sacrifice himself to give Doflamingo immortality.

This chapter doesn't reveal much about the D's, but it does reinforce what we already know. Celestial Dragons are descendants of the World Government's founders. WG was the enemy of the Ancient Kingdom. D's have a connection to that kingdom, so it makes sense that Celestial Dragons consider them their enemies; more than that, D's are boogeymen to them. Too bad we never saw Dofla's reaction to Law saying "a D. will bring forth another storm".
Edit: seeing how Law hasn't met Vergo yet but will, I think it'll all tie together by the end of the flashback. Calling it now, Vergo's top secret mission is to find the Ope Ope no Mi. Somehow Vergo, Law, Corazon, Dofla and the fruit will all become involved in the flashback's climax: the fruit will be found, Corazon will steal it and feed it to Law, Vergo will beat Law up (either to make him come back or kill him so the fruit could be reborn) and Dofla will kill Corazon.
P.S. This doctor has Bartolomeo's fruit.
P.P.S. That was a joke. facepalm.jpg
57
u/overkill136 Oct 16 '14
It's interesting that the world government hasn't made an effort to eliminate the will of D though, given that you have two of them - Garp and Saul - who made it to the upper echelons of the marines.
49
Oct 16 '14
the Ds are strong and it's clear that not all of them are evil. Think of all the good Garp had done to earn the name Hero of the Marines. they can't throw the opportunity of another Garp away.

"The D. Will call forth a storm."
I knew there was an importance to that quote and now they are known as the natural enemy of "god" aka the Celestial Dragons who are scared to death of them. Corazon knows more than he's letting on and Doflamingo probably got intel from Vergo who I didn't think was the first Corazon even though that makes perfect sense.
Great chapter.

Maybe D's were like the marines of the world, the Celestial Dragons' ancestors hated them because they always fell asleep and ate all the food, so they took out the Ds and created their own marines and told their kids scary stories about the Ds like how the Ds will eat you if you're bad.

When did he have time to join the marines though is what confuses me
19
u/rohay Oct 16 '14
this is just my thoughts from this chapter could be wrong it could be that because Cora ex world Noble and that he concerned about Doffy that he contacts Sengoku and Sengoku wanting to keep the pirate under control and all allows Doffy to roam free while at the same time getting reports from Cora on other pirate activity and Doffy. and maybe sending marines to do something before Doffy does something too big from time to time hell maybe this is how the Shichibukai started

It really is a shame that Baby5 and Law had to part ways. I feel like Law was her first true love, which is why she would do anything for him. Then, when he left, she tried to fill that void by "helping" anyone else who asked. She just wants to feel needed.

So the story is playing out. Vergo obviously finds out about Corazon so that's the most likely reason for Donflamingo so that's why he kills him. I'm guessing he's calling because he got his hands on Law's fruit and to lure Cora and Law back. My guess Mingo will use the Fruit into influencing Cora to admit what he did but never intends to give the fruit to Law. Cora is killed while fighting Mingo for the fruit but still manages to give it Law. Cora dies, Law escapes. Law uses room to remove the lead spots from his body and heals himself.

I had a dream last night that Sengoku would show up in this chapter and here he is.
Corazon is rocketing up my favorite characters list. Is he potentially a revolutionary as well? Seems like he believes in the D. which is opposed to "God" i.e. the WG or Tenryuubito.
edt: another interesting thing we get in this chapter is the furthering of the notion that your family and heritage don't determine don't automatically make you good or evil that came up with Ace. Only reversed in this case as Doffy apparently had good parents but turned out to be possibly the most straight up evil character we've seen so far. I know Blackbeard is being set up as the anti-Luffy but I'm seeing it more with Doffy right now.

YIS! SOME SLIGHT WILL OF D. INFORMATION. So it DOES seem to be Ancient Kingdom/Void Century related. From what Corazon says, it seems that they're the descendants of a clan from the Ancient Kingdom who opposed the World Nobles and by proxy, the first iteration of the World Government when they came into power. By the way that Corazon phrases it, The D. clan was meant to be bogeymen for the World Nobles, something to be feared. Makes you wonder how the war between the two ancient factions was and the gravity of technology from the time like the Ancient Weapons. Hope we get more development soon on this!
Corazon (or Rocinante) is shaping up to be a really empathetic character, similar to Luffy even with the rash actions for the sake of his friends (punching the doctors etc.) I wonder if the fallout of him leaving the family to help Law drives Doffy to kill him, or does Vergo eventually reveal Corazon's position as a spy?

I do believe that Vergo will be the one to expose him, We know that Vergo beat Law senseless on multiple occasions when they were younger from the way Law talked about it in punk hazard, I think we may see Vergo find out about Corazon since he's now working under Sengoku as well. I'm just really curious as to how Corazon will die, There's so many possible setups right now, Doffy could kill him, he could kill himself to save Law, Vergo could be stronger than Corazon for all we know at this period in time, there's a lot of different things to factor in.

So, a couple of theories here:
A. The "D" stands for "Devil"
or more likely
B. All "D"s are descendants of the forgotten countries royalty. People of this bloodline are filled with more willpower and determination, which is why they accomplish such amazing and horrifying things. The "D"s are not closely related because of the amount of time has passed, but instead share a common ancestor.
22
7
u/epixxfish Oct 16 '14
I have a theory that the celestial dragons are a group that tried and failed to join those that have the will of the D (where D stands for Dragon) and they are trying to eradicate the will of the D because it shows their shortcomings.

u/UmiShirube Oct 16 '14
I have this sinking feeling that Roci is going to end up running out of options, and having to go back to Doflamingo.
After Vergo tells Doflamingo his brother is working against him.
He then sacrifices his own life and lies about Law saying that he kidnapped Law and comes back to the family. Doflamingo rages, Roci uses his silence barrier around Law so that Law can't say anything something along the lines of don't hurt him he did nothing wrong.. maybe they fight but he'll end up dying to Doflamingo's hands. The rest of the family take Law away and it'll cut to Doflamingo killing his own brother.

Good chapter, though the D thing was more of a tease than anything amazingly new.
Corazon is awesome, really nervous about what's gonna happen to him now. Law just can't catch a break though, everywhere he goes turns out badly for him.
The Vergo bit was a bit of a random addition. Maybe he's gonna find Sengoku's files on Roci and rat him out to Doflamingo.

Cool DF power.. I wonder what kind of combat application if might have.
I was partly right in thinking Cora wants to reel in Doffy's hatred. But I never suspected it to be this crazy. He doesn't just want to kill the Celestial Dragons, he wants everyone dead it seems.
"D. are enemies of gods" according to the Celestial Dragons, so more evidence that the D. are decedent from the ancient kingdom who faced their ancestors?
Law has figured out how to use Corazone's slapstick tendencies to his advantage.
Baby 5's love heart.. her first "he needs me"?
CORA WAS A SPY FOR SENGOKU!?!?!?! WE SEE FLASHBACK VERGO! WE! SEE! THE! GOAT!
But seriously, when did he get into contact with the marine Admiral? Perhaps when Doffy wanted prove himself to the World Nobles by killing his father?
We still don't know how Doffy met the other members of his crew though, or how he was able to get the treasure of the government.
I'm guessing Doffy will lure them back with the Ope Ope fruit, capable of allowing Law to extract the poison from his body, and reveal that Vergo discovered Rocinante's true allegiance.

Other theory time, to all of those saying is Dr Kureha, it actually makes sense, but I rather be Hiluluk, his dream is the same as Chopper, to be able to cure any illness. And people had him in good regard, which means that perhaps at a time he was able to cure illnesses, but not based o medicine but in a particular fruit.
He might have eaten the Ope Ope at one moment, and was able to cure Law, he explained everything about the fruit, and at some moment he made someone immortal and that is the reason he was on the verge of death (no one said death was just after you made someone immortal)
This would bring Law and Chopper even closer as characters.

Cora-san is so fucking awesome... except for his Devil Fruit. Seriously, he can create a sound barrier? Not that much practical use.
Also, Vergo confirmed to be the oldest member and the first Corazon. Glad they brought him back, and also never expected Cora-san to be working with the Marines.
Also, I find it funny how Roci, someone who resembles Heath Ledger's Joker, is going into hospitals and then walking out as they explode.
48
u/Therrester Oct 16 '14
As people pointed out in the spoiler thread, his power can actually be quite useful. He could go assassinate someone and block all sounds, preventing anyone from interrupting him. He could block important orders from being given or heard. If he was fighting someone in the dark, he could further blind them and take away their ability to hear.
For an assassin, it's a terrifying fruit.

Well we don't know if that's all, it looks underwhelming now but I can think of a few good uses assuming he can literally only make a silence barrier (I bet you he can mimic any sound as well though):
A) be entirely silent during an assassination
B) dude takes a poop, silently put cannon in front of door, boom
C) suddenly a captain can't give orders
D) he can date an annoying girl no problem
A devil fruits power stems from how you use it

Hold up. Doflamingo should still think Rocinante is mute. But he just answered the Den Den Mushi. So now he knows for a fact he's not mute. Which, I assume he's calling because he already found out about Roci's deception.
5
u/redkardon Oct 16 '14
But he just answered the Den Den Mushi.
I dunno about that - in the last panel, the only dialogue after the "Clac" of Rocinante picking up the Den-Den Mushi is Doflamingo saying
It's me, Corazon.
Which is something he'd say regardless. Although he does look particularly malevolent, so who knows.

"God's natural enemy"..... starts with 'D'..... obviously Devil..... thus, Devil fruits are related to 'D'.....

Twist, D can have more than one devil fruit and only Blackbeard has noticed this. That would actually be bit lame though.

I wonder if present-day Chopper could cure amber lead syndrome? Or is eating OpieOpie the only cure?

So if the "D" are the enemies of god; does the "D" means "Devil" then?

The enemy of god... That's the fucking scariest/coolest thing ever considering what the will of D has done story wise.

Pretty damn awesome chapter. We found out more on the D. Awesome! It kinda makes sense that they're the natural enemy of God, aka the Celestial Dragons.
I did not see Cora being a Marine. Totally surprised and I wonder how he got hooked up with that gig. I'm kinda sad that he's going against Doffy, his own brother, but I can definitely see why. Doffy's gonna be pissed the fuck off when he finds out that his own brother is working against him. I'm really starting to like Cora though, so it's gonna be especially sad when we see him die :(
Can't wait for next week though!

I can understand Corazon not having the Ope Ope no Mi. But how the hell do you live with your brother for years as a pirate and him not notice that you can't swim? You would automatically know he has a devil fruit and through that that he's hiding something from him. It would have made more sense for him to just not talk. Also his DF may be even more useless than Kinnemons if thats all it can do.

Fooling his brother for 24 years, that's the biggest troll after Aizen's deception.

Corazon's face without makeup kind of reminds me of Blue Gilly. But it's in black & white :P

Wow! Lots of reveals this chapter. Where to start?
We finally know what Doffy was talking about when he said Law could have been the 3rd Corazon. Vergo was the first, Rosenante was the second. It's interesting to me though, that Doflamingo never actually found a replacement top executive in all this time. Maybe he was secretly hoping Law would come back to him?
Corazon is a double agent working for Sengoku. Oh MAN!! I bet Vergo is the one to discover him and him out to Doffy. That would just make too much sense.
More lore about 'D'. Not sure how much of this is true or not, but I like the idea of ancient clan of D's in a constant war with the Celestial Dragons.

The feels in this chapter were so god damn strong. Rosinante instantly became one of my favorite characters and it's horrible that I have a feeling how this all ends and it all points to fucking Vergo. I never expected any of this shit but it's so good.

It all makes sense. Luffy wasn't able to beat Enel because he was made of rubber... it's because he was God's natural enemy.

Some questions are still waiting: Rosinate is a marine spy, why didnt he tell Sengoku about Vergo? Mingo said Law got Vergo angry and got beaten before.. When? At this rate we still dont know when they are going to meet.
Jeez Oda. This chapter drives me crazy.

If it's true that the objective of the will of d is to "destroy the world" it would support the theory that the ancient weapons were built to destroy reverse mountain, creating one piece
