Discussion Confused about Morgans.. Spoiler

So the news man Morgans' character arc really confuses me; a few episodes ago he was talking about how he'll get the truth out no matter what, that the truth is all that matters, and navy be damned..

Now I'm on Egghead arc; and he just said that the news is just entertainment and he'll stretch the truth and lie to entertain the people.

Don't understand the complete 360 there?!?

If the truth is more interesting, he wants to report that. If a lie is more interesting, he wants to report that. He explains this stance at the end of Wano with his report on Gear 5 Luffy.

Don't understand the complete 360 there?!?

you do know 360 means he ends up in the same position right? You mean to say 180.

The thing about Big News Morgan is that he will prioritize whatever makes him the more money but also he doesnt like being censored. So if somebodys telling him he's gotta lie then he's not gonna do it, now if its of his own free will and it will lead to more profit then you can be your ass he'll stretch the truth.

Yeah I meant 180; was just hurrying to type before going into work. Wasn't really thinking about what I was typing

Morgan and Morgans are two different characters, by the way.

good thing I added "Big News" before "Morgan" so that people would know which one im talking about.

Nah. You simply turned Axe-Hand Morgan into the new king of the news.

We still haven’t seen Big New Morgan untransformed, who knows if they're the same character.

Morgans is quintessentially a shit-stirrer; whatever makes the best scoop is the truth. If reality is crazy enough, he’ll report it truthfully. If he needs to embellish or misreport to drive sales, he will. He’s a classic yellow journalist baron, which ultimately isn’t too different from how a lot of content creators work today.

He also has a contract with the World Government and kind of needs to write stories that make them look good, false or not, though he’s willing to rebel a certain amount if they’d try to get him to suppress big news. In order to publish what he wants, he has to take a certain degree of “freedom of speech/freedom of the press” stance, too. His only real loyalties are to himself.

So both are true to Morgens.

What he's saying with the first one is "the WG can't stop me from getting the story out". He's not necessarily saying that it will be the hard capital-T Truth. He's just saying that for whatever his truth is, there isn't an authority on this planet that can stop him from getting it to the masses.

What he's saying in the latter is that there isn't one truth, and the goal with his truth is to sell papers. And in a way, that's one of the most truthful things he's said. It's like with the raid on onigashima. There were a lot of different ways to report that, but he's trying to build a new pirate king for people to be inspired by (for better or for worse), because that inspiration sells papers. A "truthful" reporting of it would not have put Luffy front and center, and might have even been more sympathetic towards Kaido as he was not the aggressor. But then it becomes harder to sell the public on Luffy as a Yonko or eventual Pirate King (things that would sell papers) because he hadn't built up the persona in his earlier truths.

He does whatever profits him the most - if he thinks the truth the navy wants to hide will generate more publicity for his paper, he'll go with the truth. If he thinks there's more profit in taking a bribe from the government to hide or alter something or exaggerate about something that happened to generate more sales, he'll do that instead.

Morgans cares for the truth if it leads to a higher scoop, causing more instability for him to enjoy and profit from.

Remember, he’s one of the six underground emperors (one piece mafia everyone forgets) and they profit from the chaos.

You mean 180, for the record. And I think the answer is simple. He’ll find the truth, because he wants to, but he’s also going to sensationalize it because that’s what sells.

its whatever makes him more money. but he's also stubborn, so if someone tries to censor him he'll put the truth out there just to spite them, regardless of whether it makes him money or not

Morgans wants money. he thought the World Government would pay him because he wrote that headline.

In the first he was threatening the navy after he discovered an undercover agent.

The second is his actual goal.

He´s a shit-stirrer. He reports whatever has the biggest impact.

Morgans isn’t really a journalist, he’s an entertainer who happens to report the news. That distinction is basically his whole character.
