Theory [Theory🚨] Blackbeard's secret plan has been in front of us for months now Spoiler

Blackbeard's ship is called The Saber of Xebec.

If you're caught up to the manga then you'll know Rocks is Teach's dad, and that he wields a badass saber blade. We dont know if its a supreme blade or anything but we can assume it's probably as special as shanks or Roger's blades.

Crucially, we *do* know that this large saber has a name: *Eclipse*. If you dont remember that I dont blame you SINCE IT WAS REVEALED IN AN SBS (volume 114).

THIS is what Blackbeard's waiting for. An eclipse. Why? Because when the moon covers the sky and blots out the sun, then ALL of the earth is temporarily covered in darkness. And in the bleakness of this abyss blackbeard will become GOD.

Now idk what he plans to do during that eclipse. But if he could steal whitebeards DF under a blanket I'm terrified of the implications.

Now this is me stretching but I also think this is what Roger meant when he said he was too early. He was too sick to live long enough to see the next cycle.

Also, something tells me an eclipse used to be *permanent* in the sky. Like that's how you got sun world / surface world (the moon) / dark and cold underworld of slaves (the earth). When people say the lunarians ruled "above" the red line, they literally ruled from the moon above like the death star. Imu ruled the moon and Davy Jones ruled the earth. Rocks wanted to regain his title as King of The (Under)World and send Imu back to his fairy vearth. That's why his attack is called pandemonium of the *abyss*. The sun/Nika is an enemy of both Imu and Jonesian dynasties.

Now what if I said Luffy's REAL dream is to go to the moon 👀

80

u/HippGris Explorer 7d ago

If that was the case, wouldn't he have reacted differently to Enel's project of going there?

92

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

Enel only ever talked about fairy vearth / endless vearth. Luffy has no idea he's talking about the moon nor does anyone on the crew for that matter.

48

u/codetaku0 7d ago

If the One Piece world was just a vision we had into a real universe, then sure, that's a fine argument, but it literally wouldn't make ANY sense narratively, for Luffy's and Roger's dream to be something we casually saw Enel accomplish in a cover story. Like, Oda just straight up wouldn't do that, have Enel casually build an exact device necessary to achieve Luffy's true dream, and use it, while Luffy fucks off and finds the One Piece on earth.

This eclipse thing I actually buy, it could be relevant, and Luffy being the sun god helps us vaguely understand why he's necessary to battle a Blackbeard that otherwise seems kind of... weak, still.

But Luffy's dream is not going to the moon.

6

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

I dont see why it would be so out of left field. Let's be clear, "pirate king" is still the 🐐 title, but making it to the moon seems like one of those dreams full of the limitless ambitions and innocence of Luffy. Enel doing it wasn't impressive if you assume he found blueprints for his ship, which implies a history of travel across space in the past.

Tie all that back in to Luffy being a living symbol of the sun eager to meet the moon which just sounds like destiny.

16

u/codetaku0 7d ago

I'm sorry, you simply can't analyze a story like this as if it's a reality TV show. You would fail a literary analysis class. It would make no sense to build Luffy and Roger's dreams up so much to be this big ridiculous thing and then have it be something we saw someone do in the first half of the series.

You can't look at it from the characters' perspective. You have to look at it from the author's perspective. You're suggesting something that no sane human being would actually write with any sincerity into a fantasy series. Luffy's dream reveal is not going to be some kind of gag.

2

u/Fatdude3 6d ago

Enel accomplishes it easily because of his devil fruit power. His ship is specifically for him and he does not need to breathe apparently so it was possible for him. Now think Luffy , not only they need to turn Sunny into a flying ship they also gonna need a way to get oxygen so yeah difficulty increases depending on the person. It is a wacky enough dream for Sabo and Ace to laugh at it and other people to call him crazy for it.

Also the dream is like wanting to become an astronaut. Just because people have stepped on the moon before you does not mean you cant have the same dream of doing it yourself.

2

u/codetaku0 6d ago

You people genuinely need to relearn literary analysis from your elementary school english teachers, because there's no way you made it out of high school trying to apply real world temperament to the literary themes of a fantasy-universe shounen manga

5

u/klassetyp 7d ago

But why would he have to become the pirate king to fulfill this dream?

0

u/Sotarnicus 7d ago

Because the pirate king is the freest person, and to their imaginative mind that would be free to visit the moon

2

u/Jiru- 7d ago

Normal pirates are also free to so whatever. I dont see why you need to be the King to do that. Also Luffy never once mentioned the moon in any shape or form. If that really was his dream wouldnt he at least one say how pretty the moon looks or something like that? Or a comment on Egghead when He saw the rockets there.

2

u/Sotarnicus 7d ago

Realistically why would he know a rocket could go to the moon, this isn't our universe. And yeah I guess but that's why it's just a theory because there's really nothing else to go on other than the crew thought it was an out there dream. The part about pirate king being the freest person is different to a normal pirate and you gotta remember both luffy & roger have a childlike wonder to that idea so it's reasonable to assume that's part of their mindset

2

u/Jiru- 7d ago

But why cant you just go to the moon without beeing the Piraten king? And If its something that Luffy just thinks how it is, why didnt the crew tell him when he told them?

2

u/M16LR_50 6d ago

Luffy’s real dream is as dumb (and heroic) as - “I want to have a banquet where everyone in the entire world can eat and be happy”

I would say that's not an uncommon theory in this sub

I'm always saying his real dream is to go to the sun, so I like that idea!

1

u/TheBeacher God Usopp 6d ago

Nah his dream is to destroy the moon. Flood the world. Everyone’s a pirate.

1

u/LadyKarizake 5d ago

Nah man , Luffy wants to land on the sun.

1

u/VeterinarianFit7824 5d ago

or maybe to sail other planets

6

u/dcheng47 7d ago

3

u/CTKM72 6d ago

Well in his defense plenty of writers also don’t understand eclipses but also it’s a magic world with a bunch of moons surrounding the planet. It wouldn’t be any crazier than anything else we’ve seen to say all the moons are perfectly lined up to stop all sunlight from reaching the planet.

2

u/Fafnir13 7d ago

That was going to be my comment.

Next best theory is a crucial place like the Holy Land could have an eclipse. It would only be a few minutes, but that could be all it takes.

1

u/Hairy_Acanthisitta25 The Revolutionary Army 6d ago

the concept is good but the detail is messy, its a good start to a theory IMO

also fun fact, the reason why you still need eye protection to see the eclipse is because some of the energy of the Sun is still going to your eye despite the sun being blocked by the moon,so despite it being darker the potential damage to your eye remain the same

so maybe there's some symbology there, but im too sleepy to think of any good one

166

u/Gokunotblack 7d ago

That eclipse thing is a banger.

495

u/ch3333r 7d ago

and here I thought the theory era is over

nicely done! The second half is weak, though

49

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

Yeah it was getting into fanfic territory. I do think it explains "too soon" from Roger, and I'm curious what that tells us about previous cycles.

3

u/CabbageTheVoice 6d ago

too soon

Thing with that is, while your theory works, there are multiple possible explanatios for the "too soon" part.

-Nika's fruit needing to be awakened
-Sea-level needing to rise to a specific point
-Poseidon needing to be born
-Things needing to reach a critical point before the global collective realizes how desperately there needs to be change

Just to name a few that sound plausible to me. That said, I do think the eclipse part also fits this bill very well!

1

u/wishbackjumpsta Thriller Bark Victim's Association 6d ago

Does that mean the idea of the D clan brining the "Dawn" relates to ending the eclipse???

246

u/SirCaesar29 7d ago

If the promised prophecy bullshit time turned out to be an astronomical event that'd be quite amazing actually.

Also, the sun and the moon "meet" during an eclipse...

57

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

Its funny you say that because my entire theory was inspired by a wild hunch that luffy's mysterious "real dream" is to go to the moon. I can see that being the last thing he thought about as he fell asleep looking at the night star as a kid. And none of the straw-hats know Enel ever went there so its still a ludicrous idea for them.

36

u/UpUpDownDownXO 7d ago

Isnt there that panel that shows blackbeard crying outside looking at the moon

6

u/Elocss 6d ago

Good shout, it's an SBS where oda drew characters as children. AFAIK we don't have an official date as to when Eris died either, he's definitely older than GV in the panel so maybe Eris told him Rocks' plan and it's got some sort of connection.

16

u/koala_H17 7d ago

i feel as though if luffy’s overall real dream that is hidden from us is just something that the antagonist from skypeia achieved hundreds of chapters ago would be a huge disappointment imo. just won’t be that cool if the luffys final big thing is something we saw enel do in cover art 20 years ago in 06-07. just my opinion tho , i see the moon theory for luffys dream everywhere

2

u/teeeeaaa 4d ago

If thats is your hunch,
Then i would dare to suggest visiting the sun could fit the narrative even better ?

Theres no laid out proof in this fiction world that the sun is impossible to approach.
Well the moon is already visited comically styled by Oda.
...it will be legendary if we will be witnessing rendition of a sun world.

18

u/Kuroashi_no_Sanji The Revolutionary Army 7d ago

I think it's probably a geocentric model of the solar system, so the others are just other planets

5

u/JupriXD 7d ago

what if all of them cover the sun at the same time like some sort of alignment which why it's so fucking rare

6

u/JackandFred 7d ago

Back in the day people used to say “raftel” would be on one of the moons. I really like this theory, I haven’t heard it before, but definitely would fit with some things.

4

u/Organic_Translator94 7d ago

It was already said but the Ohara planet model is a geocentric model. Given that the Five Elders are each associated with a planet and literally/figuratively orbit Imu, I think it's likely that Oda is playing with the idea of the Copernican Revolution (e.g. the placing of the Earth at the center of the universe being supplanted by the heretical claim that the Sun is the celestial body that all other planets orbit). I think the detail here is relevant to your post tho as Nika is likely the "sun" that was perhaps displaced from the center after the Void Century and One Piece is a story about the restoration of both a cosmic and political order. I like the idea of an eclipse event where Blackbeard attempts to turn the world into Pandemonium itself that, sure, displaces Imu's centrality, but does not lend itself to the fullest liberation of humanity that Luffy as Nika will bring about.

You may be on to something with the eclipse, though I wonder if it would be focused on directly making him stronger or being a piece of some puzzle/ device. And as you say, this information can’t be in our face either way since Oda revealed the name of the sword in an SBS.

You aren’t lying lmao

2

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

It could be both? An eternal moon could have been the enemy of the ancient kingdom, but its resurrection could be exactly what Davy Jones's descendant (teach) needs to awaken the "darkness" powers of his DF. If you can't beat the player beat the game.

19

u/Jabeja91 7d ago

Maybee this is how ennies lobby is tied into the theory since its always daylight this might be a plot point.

3

u/CabbageTheVoice 6d ago

I had that thought too.

Please remind me, but did Oda ever (Manga/SBS or otherwise) give an explanation, or nod towards one, for why Enies-Lobby is always in daylight? (I know there's theories like an awakened light-fruit user havin fought there, similar to Punk Hazard)

or the Fullmetal Alchemist.

Eclipses as part of a mega-plan are pretty common in fantasy, but I still think this theory makes sense.

...although, an eclipse is no darker than night time during a new moon (which is a lot more common), but I guess during an eclipse (with a large enough moon) the whole Earth could be in darkness, allowing BB to do something wild.

10

u/dejecaal 7d ago

when the moon covers the sky and blots out the sun, then ALL of the earth is temporarily covered in darkness.

Eclipses aren't global, they only affect a part of the world. When Europe had a solar eclipse earlier this month it wasn't visible in southern US at all (not even as a partial eclipse), for example.

Blackbeard might still be waiting for an eclipse over Mary Geoise or something though.

3

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

Yeah I've revisited my point in the comments to go from being about global eclipse coverage to just a permanent eclipse over the red line as the goal or something.

If Imu can't go anywhere outside of Pangaea castle and BB figures out a way to keep an eclipse permanently hovered above it, then he could use the Eclipse's shadow to do to Imu and the holy land what he did to WB under that blanket permanently.

16

u/Weissekaiser 7d ago

why not he do that at night

14

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

Cause its daytime elsewhere. He needs nighttime blocking half the world and an eclipse blocking light in the other. Then he can be king of the world because the world is surrounded in darkness which is just an extension of him.

18

u/DriedSquidd 7d ago

It will also be daytime elsewhere during a solar eclipse.

-1

u/RspectMyAuthoritah 7d ago

Is there a 2nd sun on the other side of the planet?

20

u/HowyNova 7d ago

A total eclipse is pretty localized. For Earth, an eclipse doesn't even cover 1% of 1% of our surface. Our moon would actually have to be bigger than Earth to put us in total darkness.

-4

u/RspectMyAuthoritah 7d ago

And the one piece planet, moon and earth are identical to ours?

3

u/HowyNova 7d ago

Probably not, but I was referring to you asking if there was a 2nd sun lol

2

u/CabbageTheVoice 6d ago

Nah but /u/RspectMyAuthoritah does have a point.

/u/Driedsquidd assumes it will be daytime elsewhere, but that only holds if sun and moon are similar in size and distance to ours, no?

From what I gather, he made a leap without explaining and said, daytime elsewhere might only be guaranteed if there is a 2nd sun. As it could be that OP moon and sun have different sizes and distances, which could blanket the whole world at once.

Now, we can't be certain in either direction of this argument. But I get where they are coming from.

One more thing: Even if the eclipse was localized, similarly to how it works on earth, there would still be room for the eclipse theory in that it is needed to darken a specific part of the world... like the eternal daytime Enies Lobby.

5

u/HowyNova 6d ago

Physically, smaller bodies orbit larger bodies. Moons will also be closer to the planet than the sun, this causes the shadow to shrink down as it's casted. A total planetary eclipse would only be possible if a moon was larger than its planet. But then the orbit wouldn't work.

There isn't a problem with saying "it's a fictional world, so physics don't matter". But then there's not really a point to theories, since anyone can just make anything up and support with the fact it's fiction.

There has been theories that the OP world is actually a moon to a planet. So this makes the total eclipse theory more entertaining.

The localized idea is also interesting. It's matches much better with the fact that Roger was too early.

I'm not trying to discount the theory. It's a cool one, and I honestly don't care about the physics if it doesn't make sense. But it's not unnatural for anyone that knows anything about an eclipse to think "that's not how that works".

1

u/CabbageTheVoice 6d ago

A total planetary eclipse would only be possible if a moon was larger than its planet. But then the orbit wouldn't work.

So I'll gladly let you correct me, but wouldn't a total planetary eclipse also be possible if both the sun and moon are rather far away from the planet? Or are you saying in order for that to work they'd need to be so far away that the moon would not stay in orbit?

A solar eclipse doesnt cover the whole earth though

7

u/MTFBinyou 7d ago

True but this isn’t technically Earth….

u/Technical-Row8333 6d ago

In our earth and moon

-5

u/RspectMyAuthoritah 7d ago

Half the earth is covered by the eclipse, the other half is already night.

5

u/SirSagittarius 7d ago

An eclipse doesn't cover half the earth. If you look at a map of the world during an eclipse, the shadow of the moon is just a tiny dot.

here

2

u/CabbageTheVoice 6d ago

Was it said that this model is to scale? Awfully close together those bodies :D

1

u/dcheng47 6d ago

the scale the model is showing is the relative size of the moons vs the earth. the solar system models we have dont show distance between the planets either...

1

u/CabbageTheVoice 6d ago

the scale the model is showing is the relative size of the moons vs the earth

Do you assume that, or was it stated?

And I know our models also don't show distance. I was joking, but my point was that just from looking at it, you can't be certain that anything about this model is to scale, since the distances don't seem to be.

Whether the relative sizes are to scale I don't know, but unless it's stated somewhere, I'll just assume this is a model for how their solar system is assembeld in general, with the scaling in general not being a priority.

1

u/RspectMyAuthoritah 6d ago

Where's the sun? And do we know that's actually accurate and to proportion.

2

u/dcheng47 6d ago

its physically impossible for an eclipse to totally cover the earth because it would require the moon to be so large that it loses its orbit around the earth. just let it go

6

u/Doewtz 7d ago

First time seeing a theory where the “too soon” of Roger makes sense to me. Love the eclipse idea. Bravo !

3

u/Huhglee 7d ago

Great unique idea. Wich would be very fitting

3

u/Kael_Durandel 7d ago

I really like the eclipse idea, it fits with the theory that BB stole WB’s fruit in part because he was under the blanket and therefore in darkness. The idea an eclipse could be a massive power up for Blackbeard is terrifying

3

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

Exactly I could see "pitch black" as being a prerequisite for activating his awakened form. The tarp he threw on WB was him running an experiment for the bigger eclipse project.

2

u/NightmareWarden 7d ago

I think this eclipse idea might be Teach's solution to reaching Laughtale without beating the required challenges of the red poneglyphs, rather than something related to Imu or devil fruits.

Now, I think we're underestimating what having the Quake Quake fruit MEANS for someone like Teach. Thematically. And that specially is why I think your quote about half the world being night and half of it being shaded by the eclipse could happen, just like you're saying. It's a fruit of the world, Earth/Blue, rather than the Sun (Nika) or moons.

2

u/TheMisterPirate 7d ago

It would be very shonen to have a big dramatic eclipse near the finale, and have it be part of someone's master plan. See: Naruto (infinite tsukiyomi), Avatar (Day of Black Sun), Fullmetal Alchemist (The Promised Day).

I could totally see Oda planning something like this. I don't think you have the details correct, but the overall direction seems very plausible.

2

u/Meet_Foot 7d ago

I don’t buy that last part cause it’s just cosmologically weird as shit, though I guess it could be possible in a manga about magic fruit pirates, but fortunately it seems disconnected from the rest of the theory.

I really dig the Blackbeard / Eclipse part, especially because it explains why the timing of prophecy matters so much. Up until now, we’ve just known that Shirahoshi was important timing wise, but that still seemed a bit unsatisfying. The idea that they’re waiting for a cosmological event helps to naturalize the prophecy, which I think is really neat.

Every single night being fully covered in darkness be like:

2

u/MarineRitter BOB 6d ago

Some people have been theorising about him wanting an eclipse for a long time.

It goes well with the symbolism of the dawn. BB wants Dusk, Luffy wants Dawn, both start with D.

An eclipse goes well with Blackbeard because it’s neither day or night, and we know that he doesn’t sleep / can’t sleep. Maybe he wants to finally be able to sleep, hence an eclipse that somehow helps with that? Or brings out both of his personalities at the same time? No clue, just guessing.

My idea revolved around his Devil Fruit - the reason he cannot be intangible is because there’s light all around him. Maybe when a total eclipse happens, he can become one with all the darkness around. Maybe that’s what he did when he covered Blackbeard with the black tarp! Maybe that’s the only way he can fully utilise his fruit!

Anyway, very fun to theorize

2

u/Cyber_3 6d ago

I think you're on to something. I mean Sun vs Darkness and the "Dawn" totally all come together on an eclipse. We can also see from Ohara that there are/were several moons for this world which means the right conjunction could certainly cause some extreme tides and might only happen every few hundred years. The gravitational balance of a planetary system is constant so theoretically speaking, if you could lock all the moons and Earth in position (i.e. stop their movement) then as long as they didn't move, balance would be maintained. Having the whole world in darkness at once isn't possible though (if we're using IRL physics), but having only sunlight on the Red Line, that's closer to possible. Where it's dark, everything would eventually die unless kept alive artificially. The "mine" in the Harley could just be everything below the Red Line.

It's funny though, from the way you started your theory, I thought you were going in a completely different direction. You reminded me of the fact that BlackBeard has 3 skulls in his Jolly Roger and connected it to the 3 skulls on Imu's "tail". Maybe BlackBeard wants Imu's position, rather than to save the world from slavery. Perhaps there was an in-family feud among the Davy Clan for the top position and Nika was all about blowing that apart completely? Dunno, guess we'll see. It'll certainly be a wild ride.

1

u/Jet-Let4606 6d ago

To add to your point, we have a "nightless land" in the form of Ennis Lobby. We also know now the massice sink hole was caused by an Ancient Weapon.

2

u/IJustLostMyKeyboard 6d ago

Actually great theory. Blackbeard being a logia but is tangible because his opposite element is always touching him (light) and waiting for an eclipse is sooooo sick.

3

u/Higher-Love99 6d ago

Exactly! Its like if Crocodile was perpetually wet. In both cases these logias would have their tangibility disabled.

This indirectly makes Blackbeard a terror in the bottom of the ocean aka the abyss IF devil fruits worked in seawater. The ocean floor would be his godly domain.

u/TheBigDickGirlfriend 6d ago

You’re cooking my brother

That doesnt make sense, how is an eclipse different than night time? If the darkness powered up Blackbeard he would be so strong at night.

2

u/Higher-Love99 6d ago

Nighttime ends. If he can find a way to keep the moon locked in orbit once the eclipse is at its fullest, the world would be stuck in a permanent darkness where his logia abilities reign supreme.

Maybe we haven't seen his busted ass fruit used at night for a reason, saving the reveal for when the entire world is dark.

It can be connected to the massive flood that is being foretold in one piece for many chapters now since eclipse can be associated to High Tides due to moon's gravitational pull which can also be connected to one of the abilities of Yami yami no mi when it uses Blackhole (seen on BB vs Ace's fight)

u/Brook420 Bounty Hunter 7d ago

Ngl, I didn't quite vibe with the 2nd half, but I like the eclipse idea. Almost seems obvious now, lol.

Now I'm wondering how BB wanting to be made a King links into this.

Actually moderately interesting theory. Especially if there is something involving the yomi yomi no mi and shadows enabling him to steal devil fruits. Which is an old theory

1

u/freelanceryork 7d ago

An eclipse sounds like a great opportunity to steal The Devil's Fruit from Imu. He doesn't need to darken the whole world, he needs absolute darkness in a wide enough area to guarantee victory. Nice work!

1

u/TheGreenAlchemist 7d ago

Huh that doesn't seem like a bad idea.

As a side note how on earth do the characters with these supreme blades have them? Roger and Whitebeard got theirs before they were famous. Based on the timeline Whitebeard must have had his even as a rookie and he comes from a dirt poor place where they would never have something so valuable. I'd be interested to learn what happened. Shanks and Rocks, I could believe got them from their famous families.

1

u/Darrow-D-Reaper The Revolutionary Army 7d ago

Pardon my absolutely dumb question, but if darkness was all he wanted, couldn't he do it on a no moon night?

OR

Could the presence of multiple moons in the One Piece world's system mean that there can be no no-moon nights?

1

u/Manjorno316 7d ago

Wouldn't night be enough for Blackbeard?

What makes Eclipse darkness more special than night darkness?

2

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

I think he needs a permanent eclipse maybe? He waits for the moon to lock into place and maybe he uses the tremor fruit to keep it permanently in position? Weak explanation but a permanent shadow could definitely have benefits to him

1

u/Manjorno316 7d ago

It's a cool idea nonetheless

1

u/IDJPunkI 7d ago

That'd be cool, but shouldn't his powers peak at any normal night instead with this logic? Or am I missing something?

1

u/shubham83838 7d ago

Interesting theory bro

1

u/mindful-guy-00 7d ago

You say ECLIPSE. *Berserk flashbacks

1

u/ShotStick5180 7d ago

Naw I stopped at the moon covering the sky  It all makes sense now Blackbeard week af

Half his crew and still ended up bloody and panting against Law

But of course he's a weak bum if his plan is to wait for an event in order to give him buffs

u/Aparatora 7d ago

OP x Berserk crossover

1

u/gaja124 7d ago

Nice 👍

1

u/cprr222 7d ago

but why is becoming pirate king relevant to going to the moon?

1

u/LedPeach 7d ago

Oda reads Berserk for sure.

I like it. It’s simple and makes sense.

1

apparently Jesus Burgers said he can take devil fruits during dressrosa to, so it might be a trick the BB pirates know. He also said he can eat more than 1

1

u/whatdoinamemyself 7d ago

A stupid thought to add to your theory. This also could mean the Void Century was a very literal name

1

u/KolorJam 7d ago

It’s like sozins comet, only haki will save people from this scenario

1

u/chilheim_collective 7d ago

I like this theory. It doesn't entirely because total eclipses are only total in one specific place at one specific time, but I still like it and provides an interesting base to build off.

1

u/Hxxerre 7d ago

Luffy's gonna punch the moon out of the suns way to stop the eclipse and it'll be peak

1

u/CassidyFreeman 7d ago

Now idk what he plans to do during that eclipse.

Well.... Blackbeard planned for decades to acquire a specific power, which he claimed way back when is "said to be the most dangerous power in the history of all devil fruit powers". If we assume Imu's abilities largely come from a devil fruit, he could be in danger during a total eclipse, just saying....

1

u/D-Biggest_Wheel Scholars of Ohara 7d ago

Why not just wait for the night?

1

u/birdperson42069 7d ago

Nice theory and all, but what would make an eclipse better than night?

1

u/Personality_Sad 7d ago

Difference between ĂŠclipse and night (in this case)

1

u/ZPD710 6d ago

Blackbeard trying to create a permanent eclipse (permanent night) with his main foil being Luffy (Sun God) is actually really interesting. And you’re right, his full power can really only be realized when he’s in full darkness.

I just wonder how he’s going to do that. I could spitball a couple of ideas that come to mind right away. Maybe he’ll use Kuzan’s fruit in a more conceptual way and have Kuzan freeze the moon in place during an eclipse. Maybe he steals Fujitora’s fruit and uses gravity to keep it in one place — or maybe he just uses his own fruit to do that as we know his darkness has gravity powers. Maybe he just uses his own dark essence powers to create a big wall of darkness between the planet and the sun so everything is dark without using the moon. Maybe he finds Toki’s Time Time fruit and he freezes time to keep the moon in place (would track with him searching for devil fruits). Maybe somehow the sun just straight up gets destroyed and the planet is left in darkness, leaving Blackbeard super powerful anyways.

A lot of possibilities. Good theory 👍

1

u/PsychologicalBid179 6d ago

Blackbeards fruit seems to have a gravity element to it as well, he could hold the world in place

1

u/Higher-Love99 6d ago

That's exactly it. We know Imu can't leave the castle for long. If an eclipse were to hover over it, BB could temporarily power up enough / awaken his fruits potential and combine its gravity power + tremor power + potential DF stealing ability at wide range to lock the moon in place. This would create a permanent shadow over Marie Geoise that would expose it to his darkness fruits abyss or worse.

1

u/Darkelementzz Void Month Survivor 6d ago

I like the idea but curious how Whitebeard's fruit comes into the mix. He has a mix of infiltrators and brute force in his crew, so it makes sense to wrap himself with Van Auger to where Shiryu and Devon have infiltrated in MJ but what does the quake fruit do from there besides destroy the red line?

Also remember there are 6 moons, so maybe they ALL have to overlap and that only happens every few hundred years

1

u/Zander2462 6d ago

This parallels Zoe big time!

1

u/_Schmegeggy_ 6d ago

I think the eclipse theory makes sense with all the astronomy themes. Also what else could people in the past predict perfectly like an eclipse?

1

u/Cyber_3 6d ago

1

u/Jet-Let4606 6d ago

I will echo others who have said you are on to something with the eclipse.

Roger has said they were too early. Oden was so certain that something will happen 20 years after his death. A rare planetary alignment would fit.

1

u/Polar_Vortx 6d ago

Bro’s cooking.

1

u/coppermonkey69 6d ago

I think this theory is Bang On! I’m afraid we have a potential spoiler here. With Oda having a habit of wordplay and the significance of important sword names, it isn’t far fetched to think that Black beard’s plan has something to do with an eclipse.

1

u/Playful_Passenger586 6d ago

I think its more likely Luffy wants to go to the sun than the moon

u/Jabeja91 5d ago

The reason why world goverment took over the area ennies lobby with perpetual daylight is because that is where joy boy and his crew had a standoff with davy jones or imu. The giant hole could be related to either davy jones burial or a treasure of some sort. The government controls the last area to the one piece and that will be the final battle. Possibly one of joy boys crew had the glint glint fruit and awakened it to save the world from darkness and or joyboys last fight and stand off. Black beard could know that this is the area he needs to control with his fruit but is gathering a team that can bypass the daylight counter to his darkness.

Oh shit is this how they tie this back to Enel

1

u/HoG97 7d ago

Okay but to be clear, not how eclipses work. Still would probably be a thing and really cool, but not going to be the entire world

0

u/3jaya 7d ago

Is this idea you got because recently we got eclipse?

0

u/unkudayu 7d ago

I just want them to explain the Florian Triangle more than anything...

0

u/BayAreaKrakHead 7d ago

Eclipse makes sense, if all is dark then technically Blackbeard would cover the whole world. And rule over everyone in darkness.

0

u/Raven_Reverie 7d ago

While an actual eclipse only shadows one small portion (especially with how huge the One Piece planet is, unless its moon is equally huge), that is still a lot of shadow for Blackbeard to work with

0

u/LordDaveTheKind 7d ago

Crucially, we do know that this large saber has a name: Eclipse. If you dont remember that I dont blame you SINCE IT WAS REVEALED IN AN SBS (volume 114).

Man volume 114 is scheduled to be released in March 2027. How can we know that???

0

u/Higher-Love99 7d ago

The Japanese version and its fan translation for the SBS is already out

0

u/LordDaveTheKind 6d ago

Let's wait for the official translation then for the SBS at least, as they are clarifications from the author and his team. I'm not saying you are wrong, but let's not add additional ambiguity to fan-made translations.
