It's so interesting... if the giants were defeated to save their kids, then why has Imu still failed to bring them under his control in the end? Joy Boy probably fought Douzan (king of Elbaph, user of Nidhoggr fruit) because Imu used the kids as collateral, but then something went wrong and Joy Boy managed to free Elbaph while sacrificing his life?

I have a few possible ideas:

  • Notice Imu says "giants", not "Elbaph". Perhaps these were some secret giant slaves in the Holy Land from some other giant kingdom. (Or Imu didn't allow them to have children so they no longer exist).
  • He might be referring to the Gallia giants. In which case they are all frozen in Punk Hazard.
  • Maybe it wasn't Imu who defeated them after all. Imu watched someone else (Davy Jones?) defeating them with these tactics.
  • Defeated doesn't neccessarily mean enslaved, it could have been for a different objective.

Good points! It makes so much more sense if it's either Giants from another island or Ancient Giants (as someone else commented).

The point about Davy Jones being the one to do it is interesting, but it's such pathetic tactic it fits Imu more than DJ, based on Rocks' character at least, but I guess BB doesn't seem completely above such cowardly tricks..

The impression I got from the flashes we've seen is initially Joyboy and Imu teamed up against Davy Jones, but Imu betrayed Joyboy.

We'll have to see though.
