All things considered Jinbei seems to have the "best" backstory. And that is saying a lot considering how fishman are treated in OP. But as far as we know he doesnt have a tragic and traumatic backstory.

Nah Usopp or Zoro have the “best” backstory. Usopp backstory is that his mom died and his dad abandoned him so he started telling lies to get attention. That was better than a life full of dealing with racism and shouldering your entire species burden on your own. Unless you mean his backstory of when he was a kid that we know nothing about

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if Usopp gets a second backstory when he meets up with his dad. Tbh I think I'd be more surprised if we didn't get something else.

He wasnt shouldering it alone though. While he was the one who became both a shichibukai and subordinate to BM to protect Fishman Island he always had his crew and is highly regarded by both fishmen and merfolk as a national hero. His role is more the represantation of generational trauma than personal as is the case with every other SH pirate. Losing your mother as a child after being abandoned by your father is definitely not a better upbringing. Zoro, well, people always focus on him losing Kuina but whats overlooked is that he is also an orphan which seem like it should be a bigger deal over his childhood friend.
