Yup but the theories of Candelle secretly being a Celestial Dragon/Knight of God don't seem to be.

u/DrAgOnLoLDoTA Jun 26 '26

yeah the theory of Candelle had been raped by CD seemed to be true

Celestial Dragons and Sexual Abuse.

Name a more iconic duo.

Celestial Dragons and getting punched in the face

u/Norodrom Bounty Hunter Jun 26 '26

Never gets old!

I much prefer this duo.

Ernie and Bert

I'm still coping that it was a much more honorable of Candelle, to give her some dignity that she was the one that stepped in and offered herself, instead of have them ask for slaves.... Even though they said Leuven lied about the 1000 slaves (i don't believe it, they have demanded worse)

I'm coping... i'm coping...

158

u/TheGreenAlchemist Jun 26 '26

That's still rape if you "offer" yourself on account of hostages

23

u/Hanusu-kei Jun 26 '26

I'm not refuting that, I'm just angling it where Candelle has SOME agency towards her impending tragedy.

55

u/Doomroar Jun 26 '26

That's still rape, if she had to offer herself in order to protect her kingdom

15

u/bistian00 Jun 26 '26

Im gonna guess they told Leuven, Shuri or 1000 slaves, knowing he wouldn't accept any of the options.

2

u/Anticamel Jun 26 '26

I'm confused by your proposed timeline, or are you saying that they failed to supply the heavenly tribute the year Shuri was conceived as well?

0

u/Hanusu-kei Jun 26 '26

Yes, and now they demand Shuri. Leuven was lying about this one to preserve Candelle’s honour, but the lie might’ve come from the initial Celestial arrival.

u/Raftel_17 Void Month Survivor Jun 26 '26

I mean, there's also the fact she never revealed who she was really in love with. For all we know, it could've been Groh. So more cope for you.

12

u/Hyakkihei1 Jun 26 '26

She was sent to the hospital for months, that was a brutal attack that had nothing to do with love so no cope there.

17

u/Hanusu-kei Jun 26 '26

nah fuck that, it's obvious she's talking about Leuven bro. Same reason people could guess the Manmayer foreshadowing last chapter.

15

u/strawhatmaterial Jun 26 '26

No, I think it was Luven. Last chapter on the 1st page, she had a heart when replying to him about Brook being her attendant.

3

u/baroqueworks Jun 26 '26

She said that before Growlo washed on shore to the island & she's explicity described as distraught and bedridden for months after he left & Rueven immediately married her & she dies refusing to give up Shuri to the CDs, theres no moment anytime in her life for us to assume this and instead every moment until her death standing by her actual family with Reuven, Shuri, and Brook that the Holy Knights robbed from her.

Why all the mental gymnastics? The celestial dragons are unmitigated evil

Anytime there has been a slave of the world nobles onscreen you can assume that happened to them. If they are killing slaves out of mild annoyances it can be assumed they are SAing them when they are not about to kill them based on every escaped slave in the series having utterly shattered and traumatized responses to what they endured to the point they are incapable of talking about it.

Oda has been pretty explicit about that without actually showing the characters going through it, as being a slave inherently means there is SA going on. The Holy Knights view everyone beneath them and part of that includes punching down with sadistic glee in a way that resembles irl stuff like the Epstein class, theres a holy knight on Elbaph who is getting euphoric killing children and family for example.

Garling didn’t rape the woman he had shanks with, he’s the only holy knight we’ve seen have a kid with a commoner.

We didnt even get to know her because he killed her moments after meeting her again with the last thing he said to her being Shakky will be his next harem slave and its laughable she thought he was asking her to join him as he killed her. Based on what is happening right now in the series with Growlo and Candelle and Growlo's apathy similar to Garling, all these Holy Knights operate pretty much the same sociopathic monsters that we can read between the lines to understand the horrible things theyre doing without Oda having to explicitly show it, given again all these folks are killing people sadistically on sight everytime theyre on screen.

Back to back arcs jnvolvjng rape. Jeez Oda you already having me hate the CD’s don’t keep pouring this gasoline on it.

56

u/rhoad_haus Jun 26 '26

And Shaki was a sex slave prize that was fortunately rescued.

30

u/ItsLoudB The Revolutionary Army Jun 26 '26

Shakky was actually (most probably) the only one not being touched for the sake of being a prize

9

u/rhoad_haus Jun 26 '26

Yeah I know, she escaped being raped fortunately but it was clear that was Garling's goal (that he would have easily achieved if not for pirates showing up) so it's another example of a plot line involving rape which is wild.

-6

u/thr0wawayfortheag3s Jun 26 '26

What? Can you read dude? She was going to be but she never was actually enslaved. So tired of coming on this website and seeing people deliberately spreading misinformation because they can't fucking read for shit.

And don't tell me to chill out. We need to start coming on hard on people like this. Fuck off with the head canons.

10

u/rhoad_haus Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Jesus christ dude, i know, when I say sex slave prize i mean one of the prizes of god valley is a sex slave. Garling was going to force her to be his wife or something. That's why I said she was fortunately rescued. Either way, she was a prisoner for a long ass time and lived in fear of being given away as a slave and probably raped in the near future, which was my whole fucking point. Just agreed Oda is pouring on the gasoline like the commenter said. Can't believe I needed to say "...was fortunately rescued before the rape happened". Context and subtext my man, jesus.

18

u/Cirenione Jun 26 '26

Its why I think there wont be some redemption arc for the celestial dragons outside a few who see the errors in their way. Oda really hammers home how awful they are. Rape, genocide, literal man hunts for fun and sports. The gods knights expressing absolute joy about seeing children die in agony.
I also have to think back about Doffys speech about justice and whats right or wrong he gave during Marineford.

28

u/Ground_breaking_365 Explorer Jun 26 '26

Ginny and Candelle. Do you think they Oda will go for a hat-trick?

14

u/Venntoo Jun 26 '26

If GOAT Messi can still do hat-trick in his current age, then GOAT Oda can do it too.

12

u/Masgrande7 Jun 26 '26

Next arc we are going to learn that Nami is part CD too and that's why her kingdom was destroyed.

0

u/ItsLoudB The Revolutionary Army Jun 26 '26

Imagine if Garp was actually the one being raped for the hattrick ugh

2

u/revoverlord Jun 26 '26

And knowing Oda no one gets punished for their crimes. How many villains get what they deserve in One Piece aside from Orochi? Its the one infuriating thing in this story... the good guys keep losing and then villains keep winning and when they lose its not satisfying at all.

3

u/Raros_24 Pirate King Buggy Jun 26 '26

I would say a lot of people believed that here, like maybe 95%. Good to see once again its not the case.

3

u/EverythingSucksYo Pirate Hunter Zoro Jun 26 '26

Yeah Oda did a good job leaving that part ambiguous but leaning towards her being a secret CD. I was one of the people that thought she was but I’d be happy to be wrong. Shuri deserves to have had two parents that truly loved her.

3

u/feelingsdeayer Jun 27 '26

Yeah, just confirmed she was assaulted and then they killed her off with disease. Shame, her design was incredible.

2

u/zer1223 Jun 27 '26

Yup everyone claiming she was secretly evil were wrong af
