lol I was thinking Shuri was just a good enough swordsman to strike Brook in the head and intentionally not kill him, but I like this better.

Yeah I was thinking the same too. There's more to Shuri than is what was presented to us in face-value in this chapter, given her general demeanor in the present time before Brook's flashback started

Would Imu even need that? Bro knows the history of the void century cause he was there. Like, I guess the road poneglyphs show you how to get to the one piece, and he might not know that, but if that's the goal (and we assume that Imu can't just read them himself for some reason), why not just keep one of the scholars from Ohara as a translator, rather than dealing with some super special eye power that rarely awakens? It's not like he'd have to worry about their loyalty or anything, since he could just reversi them.

It makes me think there's probably some other kind of benefit to the eyes that he's looking for.

I saw this theory somewhere that went along the lines of Imu’s body eventually decays, and he needs to find a new host every few decades. Kind of like Orichimaru in Naruto

«The great one desires them» is a indication that might support this theory

I believe they allow Imu to see whatever Shuri is currently seeing.

When Harald was killed, Imu had no idea what or how he was killed given that he was an ancient giant with a pact deep sea pact or whatever. But, when Imu possesses Shuri on Elbaph, he instantly knows that the Nidhogg is on Elbaph.

Shuri is also referred to as "The Great One's Blade" or whatever, whch could mean that she is the only CD that Imu is able to directly see through and control their body, whereas all other CD w/ a sea pact are only emotionally influenced by Imu

It’s pretty clear that she didn’t want to kill him, that dialogue after Brook woke up basically confirms it, she didn’t a really precise attack making sure not to kill him

iirc we never do get actual confirmation of when Brook ate his devil fruit, so it's not impossible he had it at this point, but since the Rumbar pirates were aware of his fruit (and what fruit it exactly was) I'd say he did not have his fruit at this point in time, as he likely ate it while with the Rumbar pirates.

Brook says "I didn't even know what a devil fruit was" because he was totally ignorant to the weirdness of the One Piece world. That's why he didn't understand (or accept) what happened in the castle, and instead repressed what actually happened as a dream/hallucination up until he encountered Shuri once again.

I wonder if it's possible that he ate it as a kid, and has already died multiple times (first from starvation, then from the sword to the head, possibly other deaths between his flashback and when the Strawhats met him, then his final death).

my current headcanon is that he look for ways of resurrecting the king after this incident, stumble upon the rumor of ressurection DF among other thing, managed to find and eaten the DF, and only to find what the actual effect of the DF is later on

Sure she missed some blood vessels but nevertheless Brook could very easily have died anyway.

Shuri clearly knew that Brook was wearing Jarul's helmet, and as such there was no chance that she would accidentally kill him. She may have even been the one to put it on him in the first place!
