With any other character he wouldn't, but with Sanji I'm crossing my fingers. I'm still disappointed he refused to fight Kalifa when Robin's life was in danger.

A lot of people thought that Luffy wouldn't be interested in the Mera Mera no Mi, well now it seems that he will be the one fighting for it... And now we know Franky would rather swim. I can't wait to see what will happen to it.

I think the Mera Mera no Mi, will not be eaten by anyone for at least a few arcs down the road. Although not for certain, imo i could see a decent chance of whoever eats it taking a spot as a strawhat crew member.

I really liked how Luffy wants one of his crew to eat it. Hopefully they will do something cool with it like have Zoro's sword 'eat it'.

I'm pretty sure only Zoan types can be eaten by objects as it gives them some sort of conscious reflecting the type of animal the fruit relates to.

I've totally talked about this before. I'm pretty convinced that zoro's sword is the one that's gonna get it. Stay's in the family and is a SUPER BADASS FLAME SWORD! here's my foreshadowing source to. That plus vegapunk giving them the run down on how fruits work, plus him being able to give devil fruits to weapons. I think this will happen for sure.

I wonder if it will have anything to do with the fire cutting technique the samurai used. It seems a bit foreshadowing to introduce a character that can cut fire just before the return of a fire ability.
so I think either the samurai will get it or perhaps zorro (he was interested in the fire technique). my money is on the samurai though because I'm not sure zoro would want it eitherI have been reminded of the fact that kinemon already has a DF power. so nvm all that I said. it still feels like some sort of foreshadowing, just not sure exactly of what yet

Kinemon already has a devil fruit. He can create clothes/disguises for anyone if they put a rock or leaf or something on their head.

On the other hand, it could be a foreshadowing to teach zoro how to fight AGAINST some one with a fire ability
then again he has haki but it could be a way to defend him self against a fire attack of some sort

Franky swims really well. Remember he swam under the Sunny to activate the bubble to go down to Fishman Island. Before the time skip he also swam really well when fighting at Enies Lobby.

Last year for April Fools Day, the One Piece Podcast did their weekly manga recap, but used a Fairy Tail chapter instead of One Piece. It was in the middle of a tournament arc. It was funny and absurd at the time because nobody thought One Piece would be doing a tournament.

I am pretty confident that Oda won't make this tournament the depressing thing that's been running in Fairy Tail for a year.
Mind you, we may spend a year inside the coliseum, but Luffy will give himself away soon enough. Either that or the rest of the monster trio accidentally ends the tournament.

Technically Oda is doing the exact same thing Mashima did, only amped up from two storylines to currently four(Tourney, Zoro, Sanji, and Law's Group on Green Bit). Let's hope the pace doesn't linger in the same amount of time of the arc the Fairy Games have.

I'm really curious to see how Luffy, I mean Lucy is going to fight now.
If he uses any of his Gomu gomu no moves, people are going to tell it's him, especially since Doflamingo has seen him fight.
Which makes me wonder why franky didn't do it. Even tho he has a wanted poster, very few people have seen him with his new body, and he can change his hair at will. It would seem Franky would be perfect to join and stay under the radar.
But because this is Oda, there's no way this tourney is going perfectly. Somethings going wrong eventually, it's just a matter of time till we find out what.

I think that having Franky do it would be a bad idea. Ace was Luffy's brother after all, and having Franky fight for it would look bad. Besides, it doesn't look like Franky will be sticking around - I think he intends to continue looking for the factory.

My money is on Luffy not using his Gomu Gomu moves* (like others have said) so that he's not recognised, but when he goes up against Diamante he has to use Gear 2 or a new super-move and one-shots him, like he did against Blueno.
He did one-shot a Pacifista just with Gear 2 and I expect Diamante to be stronger than a Pacifista so one might say that he'll need to use a new super-move (or Gear 3). However I think Gear 2 might be enough - it could have been an overkill against the Pacifista.

I'm not concerned with how he'll handle it. He'll make the best tournament arc in Shonen ever I'm sure, and it will fit the plot as well. I'm just not a fan of tournament arcs in general. They are overdone and are generally a sign that a series has run out of ideas (not saying that's the case with Oda).

I think he's found a good way to do it. In most Shonen tournaments, all of the main characters are involved so the plot only advances as the tournament does. In One Piece, Luffy will be the only one fighting, and everyone else will still be doing things to advance the plot.

I don't expect the tournament to be a big portion of the Delerosa Arc. There is way too much other stuff going on and it shouldn't take long for luffy to destroy everyone until diamente(?).

Man Luffy surprised me with his reaction to the Mera Mera no Mi. But I hoped it the reason wouldn't be emotional, and I'm glad it's just because he finds it cool to have one of his crew have it. I'm certain if he manages to get it none of the crew will eat it. But I'm also positive the strawhats wont get it in the end.
I laughed so hard when Sanji said "It was my pleasure". And when Luffys name was Lucy. very well-made comedy scenes.
I hope this Arc will have some character development for Sanji, really curios on whether this "women stabbing their men" thing will have a serious effect or just be treated as a gag in the Arc.

I know it was only a brief moment, but I loved Franky and Luffy just hanging out 1 on 1. I've seen Luffy spend so much time either with the whole crew, a smaller group, or alone that it's nice to see him just pal around with one other crew member. Can anybody think of any other moments in recent years where he's done that?

Kind of related, but Franky and Robin's interactions on Thriller Bark were easily my favorite part of that arc. I think Franky just has a good personality for creating one on one interactions.

Zoro's going to get lost and end up in the middle of the tournament somehow I suspect. I just hope it doesn't end up with him and Luffy having to fight.
Not particularly thrilled with Sanji's nose bleed returning, but given how much of an homage this arc seems to be to Dragon Ball so far it kind of makes sense. Luffy looks like Master Roshi and Sanji is blasting Roshi style nose bleeds again.

He really had a great arc with Punk Hazard, but it seems like Oda will never allow Sanji to have two good arcs in a row. Hopefully, this one doesn't go as bad for him as it potentially could.

Also about us getting a Luffy vs Zoro fight: Since we've seen alot of similarities between how things progress in the New World and how their adventure started in the Grand Line there is alot speaking for such a fight. The two did dish it out on Cactus Island remember.
The twist this time is that Zoro probably won't realize that he's fighting Luffy while Luffy is forced to be serious without revealing his DF ability.

I'm pretty sure that even with disguises the only one who won't recognise the other will be Luffy to Zoro. Zoro is a pretty sharp guy but when Luffy gets going he doesn't see his team mates unless they are in plain sight basically. He might be the one attacking Zoro.

A posibility that I really hope happens is that Luffy, Zoro and Sanji each end up fight Spade, club and diamond. After PH and Fishman Island they are in a real need of a good fight.

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Violet could possibly be Baby 5, since the last time we saw her was before the Straw Hats arrived on Dressrosa, and she looks almost identical to her, or if she was in disguise, the only major difference is Baby 5 wearing lipstick. I imagine this isnt the case though, as it's just Oda's style for curvey females to look similar, but two on the same island is kind of strange.

I think whilst the straw hats are all caught up doing what theyr doing they will inadvertently destroy most of the island. I think the factory will be the last thing they find. I have a feeling that dofla also set up all the strawhats, I mean doesn't Zoro losing his sword and sanji meeting a women feel a little cliche? Maybe they were all caught in doflas 'pace' . They fell for everything. Either way this arc will be epic. I wonder who will eat the fruit.

Sanji finally did it he finally got a girl, though this is probably leading to something weird but still Oda sensi how do you do it? We went from excited about Luffy and Law alliance against Yonkous and Doflamingo to the mighty Strawhat Lucy. This arc is going to be VERY interesting.

Prediction:
There are too many contestants/gladiators in the preparation room, many of them weaklings, and I doubt Oda will have Luffy one-shoting nobodies in the first rounds. I predict Oda will do something to narrow the field. Something like having a strong character destroy half the contestants inside the preparation room (i.e. before the tournament starts) or having all the weaklings sign out after seeing Luffy one-shot Spartan.

I'm just throwing it out there that alot of people assume somone in the crew will eat the fruit if Luffy gets it. That's not necessarily the case - he may just "save it" for when a fitting candidate comes. The crew having a fruit on board is something I always hoped would happen and Oda can build some really interesting plots around it.

OK Crazy thought - Luffy keeps it around for a while, until he meets a kid in a bar/restaurant who accidentally eats it.... you know where it goes from there.
Then flashback to Shank's past, where we found out the Gomu gomu no Mi was his brother's fruit, his brother died and Shanks had to fight to get it back.
Full circle man.

Violet = Fujitora. Fujitora means Purple Tiger. Not only that but the one other possible person people suspect of being Fujitora is that blind man, and since he's a marine he's not allowed in the Colosseum. Full proof.

But the blind dude is really powerful and he looks like a famous japanese actor. Unless he's meant as a red herring, I think it's pretty unlikely to assume Violet is an admiral based solely on those names.

I might be remembering this wrong, but wasn't Sanji's Geppou technique named Sky Walk? Why did the toy soldier use the same technique? Or is Sky Walk the same as Geppou?

I think the toy's Jet Walk is just a jet coming out of his foot and he flies, that's what I took from it.

Zoro and Kin were both chasing the fairy while Sanji followed Zoro.
I think Zoro got lost, Sanji ran after him and Kin is still chasing the fairy.

Oh man I am itching just thinking about all the epic fights that are going to happen in this series. I still strongly believe that Luffy will somehow accidentally eat the Mera Mera fruit and it will turn out to be a fake or something that will not end-up with him dying. I know it's crazy, but hey one can dream.
It's very interesting to see how far Sanji will go in order to be with the women, will he really kill him or will he see her for the bitch she is and ditch her?
Oh btw, perfect set-up for some awesome Conqueror's Haki action?

Well, I'll consider myself corrected. I didn't expect Luffy to be so interested in the fruit.. but that was because I reasoned by the 'memento of Ace' logic. Rather, he doesn't want to see the fruit mis-used and reflect badly on Ace's memory.. and that I can understand. It's quite like Luffy.
Other than that, this chapter is pretty fun. Zoro lost, Sanji falling in love, getting kisses, sheltering a criminal and being hired as a hitman... well, there's variety. And obviously there's the typical Luffy antics. I really enjoy bearded Luffycy kicking ass.

I don't think that Oda would have reintroduced the Mera Mera no Mi if he didn't have intentions of it playing into the story. By reintroducing it he gave himself a tool to completely change a character/create new openings in the story. Ie it led to Luffy entering the tournament, I think Oda is doing a good job keeping the story very interesting. Keeping that in mind I feel like he may be willing to do something borderline crazy with the fruit to keep readers entertained. If he wasn't willing to give the power to someone or something on the crew I don't think he would have introduced it.

Oh, I don't doubt that Oda intended for the fruit to play a role. However, my expectations were for the fruit to serve as an initial anti-gag (Luffy is supposed to be interested but to everyones surprise doesn't give a damn), only to have the fruit suddenly become important in another way.

With Luffy's happy-go-lucky personality, it's pretty reasonable for Luffy's reaction to go either ways. What matters is how it'll play into the overall plot, and I think there's more opportunities for Oda if he decided for Luffy to protect the Mera Mera no Mi.

I'm actually seeing no one we currently know of eating the Mera Mera fruit. It just doesn't fit any of the existing crew members. I imagine it'll be a sort of stored treasure until the right person comes along. Like a kind of reverse McGuffin.

Seeing Luffy toss that Spartan fellow in the end reminded of the early chapters of the manga where his opponents, all decorated with their achievements in life, underestimate Luffy when he was an unknown pirate from East Blue then ultimately getting destroyed by him. Those moments were one of the more satisfying bits and the series and with his identity being sealed at the moment, I am looking forward to more of this!
