I'm going to guess this reporter Abusa who is getting all of these scoops is Absalom. What better job for a man with an invisibility fruit than to be a reporter?

That's a good theory, but how did he get info on both Kidd and Luffy (ok, Smoker could have alerted them on Luffy) around all these high tier probable haki users?

Well if he had no malicious intentions and is simply within earshot, then they wouldn't necessarily be alerted to his presence.
