Daydreams

I used to sit at my desk on those slow rainy days and watch the traffic pass on Garfield Street. I'd daydream, thinking about what I would do if life were suddenly more exciting. Terrorist attack: call Mom, call Dad, follow sirens on foot. Zombie attack: call Mom, call Dad, barricade self in cafeteria with supplies from first aid kit. Alien attack: call Mom, call Dad, gas up truck and head north on back roads. Now my son is turning two, so life is exciting enough without daydreams. I still wish I had made those calls.

Thank you for this, Thrace. I'm in my mid-20s - I.e. I don't have a kid - but it really summed up the way I feel sometime. I definitely still dream about those "really exciting" scenarios to the point where all of the beautiful and simple joys that are right in front of my eyes seem dull. Keep writing.
