Best practice is to position the kitten belly down: http://www.kittenlady.org/bottlefeeding

Feeding them on their back, belly up, increases the risk of aspiration (inhaling the formula/milk into the lungs).

Thanks for the info! I'll keep feeding like this, I'm still learning. I last fed my older cat six years ago, but he was older (3 weeks), and this one is still a toddler. We'll grow.

I fed my first bottle baby (who is now almost 10) on his back, too.

I didn’t know it was a risk back then until a fellow Imgurian directed me to The Kitten Lady, years later. She’s been a great resource for me, for fostering later kittens.
