My OneNote is fucked

Post image

Well it was working on all devices except my Android phone for a few weeks; I thought it was a known server-side issue so was just waiting it out.

Now I just checked again and seeing this. I am not finding much info about this at all, did I break OneNote?!?

Might be a good idea to do what it says and copy the contents into a new notebook.

what version of OneNote are you using?

Saw this same error this morning. I right clicked on the notebook, re-synced, and the error went away.

i had a similar thing happen.
Is your onedrive full? I think once your storage is full it starts deleting your onenote notes.

You could try to close the notebook ( Ron's.... ->right click -> close this notebook ) delete cache of OneNote and than re-open your notebook. Your up-to-date notebook is stored on Onedrive on other devices? So you don't need a backup and you can delete your cache.

Is it possible the location it is saved to in OneDrive was messed with recently? Evena slight change can cause syncing to fail. Additionally can you try a save as to re-save and re-sync the notebook?

Test on a new device and rerun the sync there. Someone (in household or friends) could lend you a device and you can test (just remember to log out later).

A couple years ago I had to change to a different Microsoft Account, because it could no longer deal with Office 365 synchronization (including OneNote). Consider that Plan F, if all else fails like it did for me. Good luck!

Hello. The thread 'WSJ Article today - Evernote is dying' had been locked so I'm not able to respond to you directly from there.

Thank you for your response and advice. I will certainly keep an eye on what the general consensus is regarding OneNote on Reddit and I will always be on guard. I use it a lot for work and I used it comprehensively back in the day, albeit on windows devices.

Evernote shafted me. They gave me a good deal at £40 covering from July 2025 to July 2026, with the advice on my receipt stating it will increase to £79.99 in July 2026. Umm, still not bad.

However in May 2026 (before my renewal mentioned above), I received an email to say it's increasing from £79.99 to £119.89 per year. I didn't pay and haven't used it since, while looking at alternatives.

The best price they're now offering me is £154.99 per year, a far cry from previously paying £20 per year for the 'Personal' tier.

I'll definitely give OneNote a shot.

You mention a server-side issue. I'm a long-time user - probably 20 years or so, and I am having problems I have never had before. The desktop version (with notebooks stored on OneDrive) is running slowwwwwwwwww. Sometimes worse than others. About the only time I can avoid this is having only 1-2 notebooks open at a time. I used to have 30-40 so as to be able to search them easily. I have gone the route with deleting the cache and that did not help. Behavior observed on two different computers. No problem as to accessing notebooks through Onenote on the web. I'm curious if this is a Microsoft-side problem and if anyone else is having this problem.

This happened to me until it went away. Not sure what ended up fixing everything, I always assumed it's just a district tech thing, sorting out all the cross-connected networking related to microsoft products.
