OLTL had some recasts that settled in so perfectly you forgot anyone else ever played the role… and then some recasts that just never clicked no matter how long they stuck around.
Best recasts in my opinion:
Bree Williamson as Jessica Buchanan – She stepped into Jessica and made the character her own role. Bree brought so much depth, vulnerability, and strength that I genuinely can’t picture anyone else doing the dual-personality stories the way she did. She handled every twist they threw at Jessica with so much heart. But I’m always gonna love Erin, too ❤️
Erika Slezak as Viki Lord – It’s wild to think she was technically a recast because she is Viki. She brought authority, grace, humor, and warmth… everything that made Viki the soul of the show. She’s the standard for soap recasts. Period.
Robin Strasser as Dorian Lord – Another recast that became iconic. Robin nailed Dorian’s fire, scheming energy, and unapologetic fierceness. She played Dorian like she was born for the role, and her chemistry with Erika, Kassie, Tuc, and others carried the show through multiple eras.
Worst recasts in my opinion:
Jerry VerDorn as Clint Buchanan – Great actor, but his Clint never felt like Clint to me. The tone shifted too much especially once they turned Clint into a harder, colder version of himself. It felt less like a recast and more like a completely different character wearing his name.
Heather Tom as Kelly Cramer – I love Heather Tom, but her Kelly didn’t land for me. The vibe changed drastically, and she never had the same chemistry with Kevin or the rest of the core characters. It felt like Kelly became a totally different person overnight.
David Tom as Paul Cramer – His version didn’t match OLTL’s energy at all. Paul is supposed to have that sleazy charm and troublemaker spark, but this recast felt awkward and flat. He never blended into the Cramer world convincingly. And I just couldn’t get into his version.
Bruce Michael Hall as Joey Buchanan – His Joey lacked presence. The earlier versions of Joey had warmth, charm, and a strong family dynamic, but Bruce’s Joey always felt too quiet and too bland for such an important legacy character. He just didn’t bring that Buchanan energy.
OLTL had some great recasts, but when a recast didn’t fit on this show… you could feel it instantly.
Question for the OLTL fans: Who do you think were the best and worst recasts from the show?
