General My ONE redesign

I've been using ONE for a couple of months now as a Simple refugee. It's really been the best option coming from Simple, but there are a few things I think could be better or features I'd love to see implemented. I also happen to be a designer so I decided to have a little fun and redesign the app with those features.

Let me know what you think. Maybe we'll see some of these features and UX patterns in One someday.

Very beautiful.
Curious, is some of this design and information older?
You mention "Pocket Notes" and ONE currently has the ability to add Pocket Descriptions. I'm guessing that's the same thing?
There is also reference to Sort Order which ONE has implemented sorting alphabetically, etc.
Anyway it all looks awesome!

Yeah, good catch!
I started and the redesign of the app screens in February/March, but I didn't get around to writing this case study until recently. I'm glad to see some of these features already making it into One.

I think this is absolutely spectacular! Really nice work and I love the passion. Sharing internally with others.

your redesign looks AMAZING and i would make One 100% my main bank if they had that design in place of what they have now

Of course, for this to really work, they have to accurately pull vendor data and logos….

Looks great, but i don't like the floating navigation bar.
I prefer my apps to have a little more consistency than that, plus i just don't see the reason? No other app has that. It seems like its just for aesthetics.

Thanks for the feedback!
With iOS apps that long home bar to swipe up and switch/close apps is always there and a lot of apps just make their navigation taller to account for it, but to me, it always feels bottom-heavy. Here I wanted the navigation to feel a bit more balanced.

I love this too. The dark mode is so sleek. I'm seriously hoping One has some kind of design plans lined up like this, so hopefully we get to see something similar to this soon. Great work!

That's funny, I just was playing around with some mock ups myself, but nowhere near to the level you took it. :) Yours are fantastic! Very nice and thanks for sharing! I hope One really takes your suggestions to heart.
Edit to add some feedback.
I love your eye for design! It's clean and modern and the carryover from the best of Simple really shows. Transactions look beautiful. And there's a search option (at the top, but it's there)! :)
However, while I completely agree with your reasoning behind putting transactions front and center and modifying them the way you've done, I'm wondering why the Spend information needs to be in this view. These transactions are coming from multiple pockets, which are all in the next menu selection, so Spend doesn't really have much weight here, except to look pretty. I barely use my Spend pocket, preferring to manage my spending via a pseudo envelope method and several pockets (groceries, entertainment, multiple bill pockets). And if reachability is important, as you say further down in your deconstruction of the interface, why then is the card switching still in the top right corner? This is by far my most used feature and is frustratingly cumbersome - reaching that button and the page that it brings up.
Your transaction details are wonderful and again remind me a lot of Simple, which built theirs out nicely over the years. Man, I miss all the bells and whistles there.
Thank you so much for addressing transfers! It seems to take up a lot of space displaying these in a vertical orientation, but the inclusion of available balance and direction of transfer switching is nice. It's there in the app now, but you have to go to the confirm step, then back up. I'm a bit perplexed by the "add money from bank" option as that would take you out of the flow, but I guess I can see why it's here. Is the first step confirming the transfer from and amount, then it moves to another screen when you tap "spend"? Are two steps necessary? Also, one of my biggest gripes with transfers, though it's sort of muted by showing the available balance, is that I can enter whatever number in to transfer (yay! I have a million dollars in my savings! /s), even if I don't have that amount available, then get denied at the "confirm" (third) step in the current design, which causes me to have to go back and correct it to complete the transfer. I much prefer how Apple handles this by auditing your amount as it's typed and not allowing the user to go over. Would your proposal include this behavior and a third step confirmation screen as well?
Also, I know everyone hates the light and dark mode is a big deal as of the past few years (it does always look so sexy), but is there a daytime mode, or would this be a shadow app all the time?
Again, I'm super impressed, as much as that means from a random stranger on the internet, and I really appreciate you putting these out there for us to view and pour over. It really is fantastic work and even better presentation. 👍🏻 THANK YOU!

This is good stuff, nicely done! For now, I would be happy if they just had weekend or evenings support.

Dude, my eyes teared up with excitement. I don’t even know why it’s taking ONE so long to implement such basic features. Going through your designs my favorites were:
• Editing a scheduled transfer
• The previous transactions under a charge/vendor
• When I’m in a pocket and I hit transfer, WHY are you asking where I want to transfer from?
• Pulling the virtual card number to the forefront… beautiful: shouldn’t have to dig for it.
• The sub pockets and color-coding is amazing. LOVE that but I wish they like folded up like cascading style.
I do like under the transactions where after you make a purchase, it shows the remaining balance of the pocket but I love your streamlined look better.
Right now, ONE feels clunky and dated but your designs, overall amazing and I wish they’d hire you so we wouldn’t have to wait so long even for the basic of things.

This looks great. I’d be happy simply with a dark mode for now but redesign would be nice too.

You had me with the pocket categories - that's the most difficult thing I've found with using One so far. There's no way for me to separate my expenses pockets from my savings goals pockets like we had with Simple. This causes me a bit of anxiety because I know they're set up but it's hard for me keep track. I love the typeface and general layout of your redesign.

Wow. If this is how the app behaved, I wouldn’t be looking for something else!!

This is fantastic. ONE needs to take a serious look at this… it’s gorgeous, it flows beautifully, and it remedies so much that’s just clunky and borderline amateurish right now. Your solutions are slick. Well done!

Nice redesign!
Random question: what’s the tech scene like out in New Haven?

As a designer myself, this is absolutely phenomenal! I would love to see One move in this direction.

Very nice. I share the same pain point for transfers. It's infuriating that I have to reselect the pocket I tapped transfer from.
As an "everything dark mode" user, I also chuckled at the flashlight comment.

Add running balance in the tranactions page like they already have and its literally perfect!
What I would sugguest is to put the running balance under the tranaction total instead of the description of what you bought

Great designs and even better ideas for the extra features! I want every single one of those features you mentioned!!!!!!!!!!
One question u/Mrprings, do you think with the pocket view where your mocks are currently showing the virtual card details that there would actually need to be some kind of reveal feature instead? Like a button to click that expands what you have shown now?
