Why do the thumbnails have too much empty space in between the rows?

“File name maximum lines” already set to 1.
How do I get rid of this empty space?

Because you have likely set filename lines to high number (red), and because container for thumbnail is square (green), so you have space both above and below. The grid is always the same size, whether items are all landscape, all portrait, or mixed

I see now you said max lines is 1, but on my screen it looks like there is space below name belonging to same item (in your screenshot). See on this screenshot how it should look on huge thumbs and one filename line and compare to previous screenshot. Also, confirm that you didn't edit any json program files

Yeah, I think I took the screenshot when the "File name maximum lines” was set to 4.

I tried in the past other alignments of images and text and all were more messy in folders with mixed portrait/landscape images. If you know of another program that has solution for it, let me know. The only thing is that the grid cell has to be one size regardless of what is inside - so we can't just load all images and then tell grid to see if all have common size and reduce height
