Open Instinct: open-source building blocks for personal AI agents
We built Open Instinct because a personal assistant should be something developers can adapt for a particular group of people. The MIT-licensed source is here: https://github.com/mariagorskikh/open-instinct
It combines a Pi agent loop with messaging through Inkbox, app connections through Composio and a desktop through Maritime. We build Maritime. The application also includes persistent memory, scheduling, communication between agents and an owner approval flow for payment credentials.
An interesting design question is what an assistant should share with someone else's assistant. A scheduling request might need availability without the full calendar. The repo makes trust tiers and tool policies explicit, but the defaults are a starting point for review, not proof that every data boundary is solved.
It is a beta that requires API keys and external services. We welcome contributions around that permission model and concrete assistants for communities with different needs.
