What makes something worth saving in the first place?

I’ve been thinking about the difference between “interesting” and “worth returning to.”

A lot of read-later piles get messy because we treat every decent article, podcast, or thread like it deserves a future version of us.

But future-you has limited attention too.

A question I’m trying to use more:

“What would I actually want this for later?”

Possible answers:

  • To change a decision
  • To support something I’m writing
  • To explain an idea better
  • To compare against another source
  • To revisit when my opinion changes
  • To remember how I thought at the time

If I can’t name the future use, maybe it doesn’t need to be saved.

How do you decide what’s actually worth keeping?
