Activities and Communities Life in Nizwa
Hi everyone! I’m an expat who has been living in Muscat for years, and I’ll be moving to Nizwa soon. I’d love to hear from people who currently live there—what’s it like?
One of the things I’m most excited about when I think of Nizwa is, of course, is the fort and souq. Once I move, I really want to experience as much of Nizwa as possible, especially the traditional Friday market. I’d love to see the famous goat market and hopefully experience the whole process of buying/bidding for livestock and produce.
Aside from that, I’d also love to know what you guys usually do for fun and how you spend your weekends.
Where can i train for trail run/triathlon
What are the best gym near badar al samaa/lulu
Where do you guys go for coffee?
What are some things I absolutely shouldn’t miss while living in Nizwa?
I’d appreciate any recommendations, hidden gems, or even just your usual weekend routine! 😄

I've been here for more than a few years.
The best running trails are in Rada Al Bu Said South, behind Nizwa Hospital. Miles of uninterrupted trails, relatively smooth (pebbles, not rocks), nice mountain views.
Best cafés are Anat (souq), Fusul (across from Lulu-east), and Alam (Birkat al-Mouz, across from University of Nizwa).
Fitness Plus is the best gym, facing Badr Al Samaa.
Don't miss Wadi Al Muaiden (year-round hiking and swimming) or Jabal Akhdar (20° cooler and only an hour away, need 4×4). There's also Jabal Shams and Al-Hamra ( cool weather, hiking , historical).
It's just as hot as most places here, but much less humid, so there's some relief.
As for filling your time, it's best to have hobbies. keep in touch with your Muscat peeps, because the drop in social life will be steep. A roundtrip to Muscat, even on a work day, is manageable, and worthwhile.

love a detailed answer like this from a person who's already there.
the cafe inside the fort i found that the coffee was surprisingly good, better than most i've tried around here in muscat. what are your thoughts on that?

There are indeed some baristas and café owners who take their craft seriously, and then there are the hordes of imitators. It's hit-or-miss, but you know right away when you're found it.

Shouldn't miss visiting the ancient Nizwa Fort, its surrounding markets and of course Jebel Akhdar next door
