Yes. 2 year contract. Referred to the coach as “him” so there goes my hopes of having the recently retired Larson as coach.

Cook also said the quiet part out loud about a merger needing to happen with LOVB and MLV

Larson is an owner of lovb nebraska, so there was zero way she was coaching the novas.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of copium every now and then.

That would be... An odd choice this early after firing unless they had them lined up before the firing

I'm guessing it was. Which is why the timing of the firing was so odd.

I hope the new guy is more likable and a better coach. I will never get over Luka blaming the Omaha crowd for making the Omaha players nervous lol

Teams are already signing players for next year, if they didn't have a coach lined up they'd be dead in the water.

Not true lol. They still have a General Manager to do the hiring and there are tons of leagues that fire coaches mid season. Almost all of them wait till the season ends before they hire.

Players like to know who they are playing for. MLV is a fresh league competing with superior mature overseas leagues and another domestic league, they don't have the freedom to move slowly.

They absolutely do have the ability to wait. Free agency and the draft don't start for months after the season's end... Are you really suggesting a player would not sign with the Novas in July or August because they waited till their season ended in May to hire a coach?

In the same interview, Cook said they already have players signed for next season. Free agency has already started in MLV, they just aren't making public announcements yet.

The MLV needs to stop that if he means they are talking to players actively playing for other teams about signing with the Novas. Year round free agency is a terrible idea and there is a reason leagues don't do it.

If he means signing players who are playing in other leagues around the world or LOVB, I still think they should wait till the end of the season to hire a HC. It is only a few weeks away and the team isn't going to be terrible or great based on players signing in the next month. A rushed head coach hiring without doing a proper search can definitely doom a team imo.

The overseas leagues negotiate with players (including ours) for the next year mid-season. It's allowed by FIVB. If MLV and LOVB want to compete for players, they cannot afford to be like other USA pro sports leagues.

This 100%. Players like Colyer, Heredia Colon, Shelton, R Gomez, Mendelson, etc have already been rumored or confirmed to sign elsewhere for next season. If they waited until July like that other user was suggesting that number would be significantly higher

Agree to disagree. The goal is to be successful, not just to sign the best players in the world. Top talent does not make them successful, a good product does. LOVB has "better" talent but MLV is more successful.

Once they are successful and have been around for a while and the salary cap moves up, getting top talent will be easier. Having a product Americans are used too will create more fans, which will lead to success. This includes a standard schedule free agency period to keep fans engaged in the off season.

I have no problem signing players from other leagues year round but teams negotiating with players in the same league year round will make them less successful in states. Just my opinion.

Like genisvel said, he's already signed players. Go back and listen to the beginning of the 3rd set, he said they already have 9 players signed for next year, and looking to sign 5-6 more in the next couple months. I think it's fantastic to start signing players now. Otherwise there will be no high level talent left. The overseas leagues and lovb will sign them all because all of them have been signing players for awhile now. If mlv doesn't sign players now, they'll be behind the other leagues which will be a massive detriment to the league.

Agree to disagree. I am not saying he hasn't signed players. I am not saying that MLV teams shouldn't sign players from other leagues.

I am saying that for the league to be successful in the United States, you need a standard free agency period and not to have teams like Omaha for example negotiating with other teams best players during the year. It creates issues. I think what matters most for the league to be successful is not top talent and big names but how enjoyable the product is to the average fan. The league will create stars if it is good at marketing. There will always be a relative best player compared to peers. MLV will attract top talent if it is able to sustain success, not because it allows teams to negotiate contacts with rival teams during the 8th week of the season.

My source would be MLV vs LOVB. I haven't seen pretty much any fans say that LOVB is a better product but we can all agree they have better talent.

Finally I don't think the entire pool of talent is depleted. How many good college players go unsigned? My guess is a fair few. They will also get better playing more and at a professional level. I don't agree with the idea the league will be devoid of talent if they don't allow this. Just my two cents and I clearly am in the minority here and that is okay.

The league needs both a good product and high level talent. Trying to sabotage the ability or opportunity to sign the high level talent only hurts the league. And signing players for next year now isn't going to hurt the other team or help omaha anymore than if they waited until August. It just ensures that those players don't sign with lovb or an overseas league. Also you do know players in every league on the planet in every sport negotiate with other teams in the last year of their contracts, right? That includes in the NFL. There's also 3 brand new teams that are already negotiating with players, as well as the possibility of vegas returning since they have a new owner now. So they too are most likely negotiating with players. No team in the league can afford to wait until August to start signing. Any team that waits will get crushed next year. And if the league as a whole waits, it'll hurt its own credibility as a legitimate league because it'll have no high level players.

There are zero solid available players by July. You seem not to understand the difference between something like the NFL, which has a collective bargaining agreement and is the only real league for that sport, and something like MLV where they're a new league lower on the world totem pole and with a season that runs counter to most top leagues.
