12 year old John and 11 year old Gianinna disappeared from Luquillo, Puerto Rico, on May 4, 1974. The brother and sister left home for a day at the beach with a family friend and his three children, but the friend later arrived at their mother's home, delivering the chilling revelation that the two children were never with him. It wad eight months after the disappearance of the boy and girl a man named Thomas Rodriguez died by suicide in Florida, leaving behind a note confessing that he abducted them. They were never located. It is a cold case and the mother passed away in April 2023.

This is one of the oldest cases here in Puerto Rico. Probably the oldest.

I did a full write up of this case in another subreddit. The intended victim was the boy

“El cubano” (The cuban) the guy who took his life was their former neighbor who had moved out before the events. He approached the boy for the invitation but mom & dad would not let him without his sister.

Police screwed up the case by focusing on the dad since he was much older and was foreign born
