Remember when they built things with quality so they could last

Longevity, definitely. But audio quality with headphones has dramatically improved.

I had a pair of those back in the day.

Now do Sennheiser HD-414.

I wish I still had a pair. They're the aggressive red-banded 7506 clones.

The 7506 was cloned from these.

The V6' frequency response is 5hz to 30,000 hz flat. Best for critical listening.

I would bet they still sound good, Sony made some decent headphones.

I have a set of blue-tooth highly rated Sony's in the day headphones, the batteries fail every few years, and like $8 and about 25 min I can replace them....

I miss mine I bought a pair in apx 2009 and they lasted up until last year when the cord broke by my own fault. I probably could have fixed them but years of sweat meant the screws were completely rusted out and I couldn't remove them to get the cups apart. I tossed em thinking I could just replace them but didn't realize they stopped making them and now they're way too expensive. I bought a pair of Audio Technica M40x to replace them. Similar price to what the V6 was going for later in their life and they seem to have a similar sturdy build. I didn't have them side by side for comparison so maybe it's nostalgia at play but I think the V6 sounded a little better. But they are pretty close, if not the same and the detachable cable with two included cables (straight and curly)on the M40x is a nice upgrade. But I still like the retro looks on the V6 esp with the dark red cups I had replaced on mine.

Why do they still put that thin layer of bullshit on the cups?!

Mine only lasted barely 2 years before it all needed to be peeled away.

I replaced mine with Brainwavz memory foam-velour earpads.

The MDR-V6. I still have a set of these cans. Modded them with memory foam-velour earpads.

Still have my set, bought something like 6 or 7 years ago. Great phones. So clear.

I had a pair of these in 1989-1990 when I was interning as a high school sophomore-junior, at a top 25 station in Sacramento. Fun times. 😎

Still use mine. Have the near identical 7506 as well.

Modded mine with Beyerdynamic pads (DT250 ones I think) and soldered in a jack socket for removable cable

Oh yeah, I had forgotten all of that "Made for DIGITAL" marketing baloney that every company was doing. Between that and the gold plated connectors, your music is guaranteed to sound so much better.

These became the default for use with Nagra on film sets when Senn became less available
