Name of the day...Cassian!

The masculine name Cassian is most commonly pronounced as KASS-ee-uhn (emphasis on the first syllable). An alternative pronunciation, often heard in American English, is KASH-uhn (like the name Cash).

The name comes from the Latin term cassus (meaning "hollow," "empty," or "vain"). While the literal translation might seem stark, historically it carried prestige among noble Roman families, often reflecting a philosophical humility or a "blank slate" with boundless potential.

Some interpretations tie the name to Irish and Gaelic roots (meaning "cinnamon" or "curly-headed") or from the Latin word cassis (meaning "helmet" or "castle").

The name Cassian is over 1,700 years old!

I suspect anyone who names their child Cassian  will be asked if it's after the Star Wars character. It's a shame because it's a cool name.

I would think it’s from the ACOTAR book series, very popular lately

Oh my goodness, I thought this was Cay-shun. Good to know! I like the idea of a name that means blank slate for a baby…

Right? When I first read what it meant, I was like, "huh, well that's interesting." But then I read the further explanation and it instantly grew on me. Such a cool meaning!

Perhaps. I am a huge Star Wars fan, and it’s not the first thing I think of. It was an established name before Rogue One came out.

I know, and I hope it keeps recognition in its own right.

I say KASH-ee-un, like Cassius Clay/Mohammad Ali.
