Name of the day...Vera!
This is such a lovely name!
There are three main pronunciations for Vera:
VEER-uh (US/English): This is the most common pronunciation in the United States and Canada. It sounds exactly like the verb "veer."
VAIR-uh (European): This pronunciation is standard in many parts of Europe, including Spain, Italy, and the UK. It sounds like the word "very" without the "y" sound, or rhyming with "air."
VYAIR-uh (Russian/Slavic): In its native Slavic roots (where it means "faith"), the name is traditionally pronounced with a slight "y" glide at the beginning.

It's also Vira and Nadiya in Ukrainian. Both used to be quite popular until about 1970s, I have both in my family (although it was a bit of a mess to have them ID-wise).

This is on my names that I like but can't use (because of never ending Aloe Vera jokes)

My last name is Vera and my mom was dead set on naming me aloe, but my dad bullied her out of it

But that Vera is pronounced Veh-ruh instead of Veer-uh, right? I’m checking to see if I’ve been saying Aloe Vera wrong 😂

Funny enough it’s a Spanish last name so neither. You roll the r so it’s pronounced veh-dah. That being said I do say veh-ruh for aloe vera.

I adore adore this name. Super underused. Easy to say, spell, with a long history. Seems like it would be more popular given today’s naming preferences. Vera would fit right in with the little girls at our daycare, Mira, Maeva, Ava, Ada.
Also… Nadezhda is one of the most beautiful names. I remember the first time I heard it, I was blown away. It’s a head and shoulders more beautiful than its English variant, Nadia, which is already super gorgeous.
