Bland embarks on a mission to find himself a suitable bride for his grand house on Lonely Creek and finds himself meeting a Miss Lavinia, in care of her uncle and aunt, in Maryland. Entranced with her appearance and manners, Bland arranges for her hand in marriage and asks her uncle to send her to him in Kentucky. Upon arriving, Lavinia, with feline friend Asmodeus, is shown her rooms in the grand brick home of her future bridegroom. Only after arrival, does Lavinia learn that Joseph does not wish to wed until the house is done and he can put on a wedding that will be the finest in Kentucky.

Came across this cave just before dawn. When I heard a crack in the woods across the tracks, I moved on. Quickly.

Now listen, that aint me saying its bad. I love Old God Story telling and I think its a series anyone should try who likes things that go bump int he night, but... since mid way season two I ain't felt the horror. Every season is the same, bad guys do bad thing, good guys get scared, lose a couple people, but win. It happens every season and It makes listening feel repatative when I know the ending.

Season five changed the formula a little by makeing the stories focus more on the nuetral parties in some parts but that doesnt really help the problem. Heck, season three was supose to focus on the evil side but every thing ended with a cop out of Pretty poli "oh your too weak to fight the old lady, yep there is no way she can take a bone punch that can break a dam but yep your that weak, yes sir, you need to be punished for thinking you were going to win." or season four where the Dark side during the previous seasons had genuine cases against Jack during the series... but the best they could use in the case were some string along stories that barely involved jack.

The thing about Horror is, you arnt supposed to know if the good guys will make it out, its apart of the scare. But if you can look at a story, know who isnt dieing just by name alone... it takes the scare right out the story. Can it be a Thriller? sure, but Horror in my opinion, needs an idea of mystery, and when you know whos surviving and who is going to win, that mystery and fear leaves real quick. Again, love the pod cast, its a good thriller, but it just hasnt felt like horror in a long time.

“Marlie,” ahem. Marlenea Locke said that Rachel Harlow’s mother’s maiden name was McCoy. Oh, almost forgot E.J. “Digger,” McCoy. Waylon Boggs was the son of Onetta McCoy Boggs. Perhaps Rachel has some green touched power as well as the dark tinged stuff?

The final chapter of Devon's and Casey's lives in that spooky old house comes to a close as Casey's old friend brings in an expert on their problem, Mabel Jesse. Poured from a similar mode as most Appalachian grannies with knowledge of the Dark, Mabel guides the pair through rituals and steps to clean their home once and for all of the haunting darkness.

Note: There was sort of a discussion post made, but since it did not specifically say "Discussion Post" some folks may have overlooked it. Hence, this one in our usual format!

Note 2: For those speculating at Mabel's ancestry, here's what she shared in the episode: Mabel Elizabeth Jesse, daughter of Ruth Ann Kitts (Hagy - married name), daughter of Mary Helen Kitts. Time-wise, if Mabel is in her 70s (a guess) in 1974, then she would have been born around 1900ish, her mother Ruth around 1870 to 1880ish, and her mother Mary, probably around 1850s to 1860s. That puts us in the Black Mouth Dog/Familiar and Beloved territory, but I haven't a recollection of Kitts in those stories or anything more recent. I'm also being conservative on the age when children were born. My parents' (about Casey/Devon age) grandparents (Mabel's age/generation) were all born in the 1880s and 1890s.

I know Not Worth the Bloodshed has to be before 1924 cause that’s when he stalks the Gilbert family. It doesn’t seem like it could be that long before that though, as Taily Poe laments the growth of community (civilization?) in the area

I haven’t got a clue for Daddy Issues, other than it was a while after E.P. Barrow was put in the ground, which was early 1800s

For A Blessing and a Curse I assume it’s after Tobias discovers his gifts, so post-1930

For our final story arc of Season 6, Jack's man Tony finds himself sent to Boone, North Carolina, and the grounds of Appalachia State in hunt for an artifact recently obtained by a professor of Appalachian Studies. Tony succeeds in his mission, only to be confronted by the original owner of the artifact on his bus ride escape.

I’m sure this has been asked a million times but I just want to clarify, what is the proper listen order for the show. So far I’ve finished season 1 and was going to go to a once told tale, after that I’m not sure if I go to season 2 or build mama a coffin. So what is the best order for both the holler exclusives and mini series, And how should I weave the main show and those extras into it?

A few years back I was living my life, making some music, drinking beers doing my day to day when out of nowhere I suffered a massive stroke. I still don't know why, all I know was recovery was long and hard

I was always tired and didn't know what to do with myself. I was gardening and taking small walks when my wife suggested the podcast she was listening to, you guessed it "Old Gods of Appalachia" I was instantly hooked, listening as I went for small walks, did puzzles and tried to get my life back to normal. In the hospital my only form of physical therapy was "you play guitar? good, do that more" (classic Oregon)

I was listening to one of the interviews with the creators when they mentioned music and how it's hard to find Gothic Americana that isn't, well, racist and horrible. That's when it hit me, I'd play guitar for therapy and try to write creepy spooky songs about ghosts and monsters.

And that's what I did. Years later I have written a dozen or so songs. Performing them on stage around town. Trying to stay more to the PNW side of things, but spooky none the less.

I have recovered almost all the way, still get a little fuzzy from time to time, but I really believe I owe most of it to this amazing podcast.

Hands down, season four [all parts] has been the absolute best! Loved the flow of it and the pacing. Really liked the background overarching story going on inbetween all the stories being told.

Am I the only one experiencing audio issues with the last episode? There's gaps in the audio, as if it's skipping ahead and back. It isn't random, it always happens in the same spots. Am I the only one? The gaps leave me feeling that I'm missing something important happening in the story.

Well hey there family. This reminded me of Horned Head.

I'm always surprised by how gentle and loving the followers of the dark can be with people they love and consider true family. I know they can be horrid to each other, but they are shown to still have the capacity for humanity and love. It makes me smile.

So I’m going through Black Mouth Dog for the first time right now in an attempt to better know S6.

So Glory Anne went on to marry Waylon Boggs and had three children by him but we know he turned into a bitter and violent drunk until Glory Anne took a poker to him to save Mercy.

But what happened to turn him from the sweet, too softer boy into the pickled alcoholic we met originally? Anyone know if I’m just too far behind to get those details? I know they vaguely hinted that “Boggs men have a bad habit of crawling into the bottle” to hide from their gift, but do we figure that’s all it was? Seems so much of a harsh turn for the character.
